Big facility for keeping the worst of the sex offenders who served their sentences but are too dangerous to release "yet": HBM060: The Predators of McNeil Island | Here Be Monsters

But the guy still flew over populated areas. Seatac airport is surrounded by homes, this whole part of the country is pretty dense with houses, business, roads, you name it. He didn't have a pilot's license, he could have just as easily crashed upon takeoff into the many working-class homes in that part of town.

It seems like if someone really wants to kill themselves, there are plenty of ways to do it that don't put others at risk. This guy did.

True. But he seemed intent not to and he clearly wasn't thinking rationally. He said he didn't want to land at the airport because he might screw things up. His barrel roll was over water. And he did head over water when asked to, so as not to hurt anyone.

He was reckless and it was very dangerous. But he was suicidal and not thinking clearly. I feel very sorry for him and everyone who loved him.

On another topic everyone should note how absolutely calm the air traffic controller and pilot were when talking to this guy. This is how they're trained. Unbelievable. They can truly handle anything.

She was rather stupid. "Are you sure he's not going to hit us?" As he clearly turned and is flying away.
But I can only imagine how intense that would have felt live. And scary.

Hi miss g

I am curious to see this would ya post it!

Hi miss g

I am curious to see this would ya post it!

It’s posted not far upthread Cariis, but the video won’t play for me, just the audio. The woman only knows two words for most of it. Hence the “stuff a rag in her mouth” comment. :)

oh gosh

here they go

getting all hysterical about airport tarmac security this has been an issue for years

answer simple

money

those of us who follow aviation have heard about them having committees to review a committee that was reviewing the committees of the committees suggestion that having anyone running around behind the scenes poses a great threat to aviation.

there has been gun running drugs running etc etc in the belly of airports for ages.

too much money to check all employees --

no worries a committee is looking into it...............

For some reason I don't feel like he is gonna have a mental health history dont know why tho

it feels as if he would be liked be social outgoing etc etc he was certainly that way on tape

but a lot of times people are really happy when they make the final choice to end their suffering so who knows huh!

and ya know what they know who he is

they have been reporting his age for hours

I understand that IDing the body in a high speed flight into terrain takes time however i am surprised identity has not been leaked to media

I think he was buying himself time. They wanted him to land so saying he would do one more thing and call it a night gave him time before he might get shot out of the sky by the f15s. He had the best controller who kept him engaged and didn't rile him. However, I do think if the exchange was more confrontational there would have been a greater chance of him crashing in a more populated area.

Context matters

I would think the likelihood of them shooting him down was low throughout

It was a turbo prop - so it not like it could have gotten away from them - like they would have time to do something if needed

he was not threatening and in contact with ATC

was flying stabally the plane was being controlled

over unpop areas

moo

Omg.
He could have gone to CVS, Walgreens, or RiteAid and then ended his life, but he chose to do stunts in a large airplane near thousands of people because it was entertaining to himself. I hope there isn't any more video released on this selfish 🤬🤬🤬 as other selfish 🤬🤬🤬 will try to imitate his actions.

Please don't lecture me on mental health issues. He wasn't psychotic. He could have chosen another method to kill himself which didn't endanger others' lives.

Second recording:

Rich: Hey, you think if I land this successfully (inaudible) would give me a job as a pilot?

ATC: You know I think they would give you a job doing anything if you can pull this off.

Rich: Yeeeeahhh right! Nah I’m a white guy… (audio cuts).

Sounds like this man, whom people on many sites are trying to turn into a "tragic hero", is not only a selfish 🤬🤬🤬, but also a racist. (The black guy always gets promoted ahead of him.) smh

I don't get the "tragic hero" part. He stole a plane. He flew over habited terrain. He crashed into a habited island (and nearly all islands in the Puget Sound area are habited, even the small ones.) He started a fire and could easily have killed someone had he crashed into a house.

Now his wife will be picking up the pieces now that his identity is known. Her I feel sorry for.

Plane crashes after 'unauthorized take-off' from SeaTac airport, officials say

People who knew the Ground Services worker who stole the Horizon Dash-8 plane tell me he was “super normal” and he moved the plane from cargo area to the flight line, between commercial flights. They don’t believe he was a trained pilot.
