WA - Man draws gun, threatens eight-months-pregnant smoker

  • #21
Well I guess I an telling my age but' I smoked through two pregnacy's. No one condemrd me in the late 60.s middle 70's. Smoked through both and NOW have a healthy 44 year old Son and a beautiful , healthy 37. year old Daughter. THANK GOD I do not always believe the government theories. My God how are all these 60's and earlier babies living today????????????????

I smoked through both mine and my kids are healthy and happy. All these silly rules that are around now over here anyway grind my gears.
They've created that much hysteria I seen a woman ask if it's ok for her to eat pizza because she was pregnant...for goodness sake.

Let and let live I say, people make choices I don't support but it's their life and if they think that's the right choice for them that's ok. They have to live with the consequence good or bad

Didn't they used to also say it was okay to let mothers take doxycycline while pregnant ... until they realized it turned their children's teeth permanently black.

And they also prescribed thalidomide to help pregnant women with nausea. Until they realized it produces severe birth defects.

I had a cigarette everyone once in a blue moon when I was pregnant. I didn't "smoke while pregnant" but ONE cigarette is not that big of a deal. How does he even know that it wasn't that.

See...how is shooting a pregnant woman helping the baby in *any* way? Yes, I realize he didn't shoot her, but I'm of the belief that if one pulls and points a gun, they're going to use it...that's what I've been taught, and what I firmly believe - never pull out a weapon unless you are committed to using it.

That judge needs to really examine *their* bias against smoking. To me, this was assault with a deadly weapon. Far more time should've been given (but my guess was this was a plea).

As for her smoking, it's (still) her right to do as she chooses with HER body...there are so many people running around as adults whose mother smoked during the pregnancy (I am one of them...) and who turned out fine.

BTW, if one follows all the 'rules' as to what is bad for them, they'd never leave the bubble room...driving, walking, eating red meat, eating GMO foods...et cetera.

As a smoker, I abhor someone telling me what to do with my life. I am a polite smoker, inasmuch as if my smoking bothers someone and they ask politely for me to move or to put it out if there's no where to move to, I'll do it. But those folks who think it appropriate to yell, scream, and curse at me for smoking? Shoot, I've been known to light more cigarettes and smoke them ALL at once...not moving. LOL.

And, once I was spit on from another car for smoking IN MY OWN CAR.

This antismoking thing has gotten waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy out of hand...way out. Being spit on, reading about someone having a gun pulled on them...no, this is just not right.

I agree with the sentiment above which said "make judgments and then go on about your day silently, gloating that you're better than other folks." (Paraphrased). Perfectly said.

I wonder how the baby is today since this was a year ago. Must be a slow news day.

he deserves way more than 20 days
he can't control his rage over a total stranger's bad habit
we'll be reading about him murdering someone in the future and it'll be a minor neighbour disbute or a road rage incident IMO

Or domestic violence.

And we'll also read about her abusing and most probably killing her child. IMO

On another note:
They left and she immediately lit up in front of the store windows. I remember my co-worker shook her head and said, "That really makes me mad." I told her that in Europe it's not as taboo to drink or smoke when pregnant so give her a break, but looking back on it, what I really should have said is, "why?, what has she done to you?" If she had said, "Seeing a pregnant woman smoke makes me worry about the health of the baby," I could get with that. But mad? Get a life.

Do you have any firsthand experience that it's "not as taboo" in Europe? Because it was always my impression that it is just as taboo as in the US.
Also, seeing a mother neglecting, endangering or harming her child makes a lot of people mad, even though it is supposedly "none of their business", I'm not sure if I'm ready to condemn them. Drawing a gun is threatening, yeah, but she also threatens her child. I guess that was the whole point, though it probably was too subtle for her.

So in effect you're agreeing with him having judged her and called her "white trash," except you're pointing a finger instead of a gun.

This whole thread is full of people pointing fingers, just take a look at the posts I quoted. I'm just trying to fit in. :D

True, though many if all most concentrate on the gun-pointing angle.

As I'm not a nosey-parker, I might privately scowl at the sight of the woman but that's all.

My mom smoked. Gave them up when pregnant with me though I've no doubt she did have one or two.

The guy really seemed to dislike the pregnant woman's looks though since he is said to have called her a prostitute, and is said to have kept badgering her when she tried to walk away.
