Activity Reported on Missing College Woman's AOL Account, Father Says

The father of a missing college woman says his daughter -- or someone using her AOL instant messenger account -- logged on to a computer Wednesday, the Seattle Times reports.

Edgar Perez, whose 18-year-old daughter Marizela disappeared March 5, said family members noticed activity on the young woman's AOL instant messenger account Wednesday night.

Perez reportedly said relatives in Connecticut noticed that the woman's screenname was lit up, indicating that she or someone else had logged on to her account on the popular instant messaging system.

Update 3/18: A setback this morning. Just heard from Marizela’s dad Edgar that the police have checked out the AOL/AIM lead. Here’s what he told me:

“Update from Det. Eng: Per AOL, Emem has been logged-on since March 9 using her cell phone and never logged off. She never sent out any messages either.”

We move forward. Continued prayers and support so appreciated.

If she was last seen on March 5, isn't the log-in of March 9 somewhat suspicious? I'm confused. :waitasec:

Praying for Marizela :prayer:

she is in a "vulnerable state of mind" that qoute is disturbing.
i hope she didn't buy some over the counter pills being that the article also says that she
was taking anti-depressants.

i wonder what type of anti-depressants she was taking as some ssri's interact very badly with over the counter medications.

it's almost always the case that police know more than they let on. they have to that way.

I hadn’t heard anything new lately so I looked at the facebook page dedicated to her to see if anything had been posted. In a conversation on the wall, her cousin I believe it is, says that the last known activity on her phone came from the Greenlake area at around 2:45 pm on March 5, the day she disappeared. Also, a sighting was called in 4 days ago, someone thought they saw her in Sarasota, Florida.

I wonder why this info is being discussed on facebook yet nothing is coming from the media.

I check the FB page, the blog, and the news every day for updates on Marizela, and other than the FB chatter, there is absolutely no news

I hope so much she IS in Florida. I keep hoping maybe her "vulnerable state of mind" just means she was stressed out, maybe felt pressured on her school work, anything, and she just needed to take off and get away. Better thought than all the uglier alternatives. :(

This is disturbing. It appears during the past year or so, three young Asian, college-age women have gone missing in the Pacific NorthWest. I have to leave for awhile, but when I get a chance, I'm going to look around some more and see if there's even more than the three mentioned by Michelle in her recent blog post.

Prayers for the return of these beautiful, young women.

I look every day for news on the adorable Marizela and there just isn't much. I am going to be in Seattle soon and will look to see if posters are still up. I will bring some with me to post around town just in case.

Where are you sweetie?

Not a word about her around Seattle lately. Some people on the Michelle Malkin page are suggesting that her disappearance maybe related to other young Asian women missing from the Northwest, but I don’t really see many similarities in the cases. I hope this doesn’t turn into a cold case.

I am on mobile right now so I can't provide a link but apparently today Discovery Park is being searched by a K-9 unit. The family has reason to believe she is there but did not intend to release this info until the search was over but apparently Seattle Parks & Recreation let the cat out of the bag. Info & links to the article can be found on the Michelle Malkin page.

I hope they find her, but am very sad this is a recovery effort now.

A family’s search for a missing young woman will bring them to Discovery Park on Wednesday (April 13). The Seattle Parks and Recreation Department tells us that the woman’s family has reason to believe that she is in Discovery Park, and they received permission to conduct the search.

Parks and Recreation stresses that this is a recovery effort. The family has hired a company called K-9 Kampus and representatives from that company are coming from Texas to conduct the search. The group consists of three K-9 teams, each comprised of one dog and five people. Family members and friends are also expected to join the search.

The search will get started at 7:30a.m. and is expected to last the entire day. The Parks Department will not allow the search to take place beyond Thursday (4/14).
