According to officials, he was found alive Wednesday on the flanks of the mountain.

He’s being flown to a hospital in a helicopter ambulance. No word on his current condition.

Matheny survived SEVEN days at Mt St Helens. Found out from the Sheriff that he is talking, but other than that doesn’t know more about his physical condition. Still on the mountain waiting for Lifeflight. The Volcano Rescue Team found him.

UPDATE: He was found down below the Loowit Trail. Which connects with Toutle and Blue Lake.

Local news (my Dad retired in that area) said he was in satisfactory condition at the hospital and was not wanting to talk to the media. Missing volcano hiker found; "relatively good indicators" of his condition

PeaceHealth staff Thursday night confirmed that Matheny had been released.

Were they flip-flops or sandals? Because they do make hiking sandals. If I'm going on a short hike and maybe want to get my feet wet in a stream or lake, I may wear them since they still have support and dry out quickly.

I was thinking that, but there's an article that says his flip flops broke while he was missing, and those don't look broke, so I wonder if they were cheap flip-flops that somebody gave him to put on.
