MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — The Skagit County Coroner’s Office says it is working to identify unclaimed remains from a 1991 missing persons case.

The Coroner’s Office received a request to help ID the remains from Genetics Uncovered, a company that provides funding for DNA evaluation.

''The victim is described as a shorter male with black hair, who was found wearing dark Bermuda shorts and had a red bandanna around his waist. He also had a healed buckshot wound on his knee, which investigators believe didn’t contribute to his death.

Genetics Uncovered, a Wyoming-based organization, is working with the Coroner’s Office to raise funding for in-depth DNA testing in this case.

The state Anthropologist and the King County Medical Examiner will be consulted to determine the best course of action for testing after the remains are disinterred. ''
