WA WA - Nancy Moyer, 36, Tenino, 6 March 2009

  • #421
Vanda Boone, moves cross country from New York, loses all her belongings along the way. Her only known relative, a brother, died recently in Brazil.
Then she is attacked and murdered near a quiet little town.

RIP Vanda Boone.

How very sad. May she rest in peace.

Perfect Kae, thank you so much!!
Just for the sake of accuracy, the grocery Nancy visited that night on the way home from work was;

Dave's Thriftway
669 Lincoln Avenue East
Tenino, WA 98589
(360) 264-5650

Howell killed the victim on a popular trail near Highway 507 and Mull Road near Tenino
Could you add that location to your map Kae?

Snipped, more at link-If they do find some connection to Nancy, I hope they search the swamp he refers too.

I changed the grocery store placemark and modified the route a bit.
I also added the 507 and Mull Street location:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=U...85,-122.842598&spn=0.027264,0.066047&t=h&z=15

I really appreciate your input Knox! :)

One of our own WS Members was interviewed by KIRO yesterday!! There will be at least one more interview with Nancy's friends, will post a link as soon as it it available. These two individuals have never given up hope that Nancy will be found. They have held fundraisers and organized private searches for their co-worker and friend. We should all be so lucky to have people like that in our lives.

Nancy's friends have been the best. You are so right that we all
should be surrounded by friends like Nancy's.

I would be interested in what swamp this man planned to hide the body. Wondering if it has been searched by Nancy's friends and helpers.?

OMG while this news is very sad and disturbing I am so glad to see that Nancy is getting some much needed attention. No doubt this guy murdered Vanda. How many men are there, especially in a small town, who would be perverted enough to stumble across a dead body and their first inclination is to 'have sex' with it? I hope LE investigates this swamp thoroughly.

In relation to Nancy, this being a small town and having two women women disappear, one of them to show up murdered, having been attacked at random is pretty unusual. One thing about Nancy's case - if she was a victim of this man, is there were no signs of struggle at the scene meaning she either knew her attacker, she was caught completely by surprise and had no time to fight back or she was lured out of her house somehow. If she was lured out of her house under the guise of buying meat from this guy would she have left her front door open and would she have left her wallet w/ her money in it inside? It is possible she was sitting on her front porch having a smoke and left the door open so she could hear the phone, or so her cat could go in and out and she was approached while sitting out there.

Anyway, I am just thinking aloud here. I look forward to see how this unfolds and hope Nancy finally gets some answers. Nancy's friends have been amazing - I can only hope if anything ever happens to me I have friends like hers.

Hi everyone. I've stumbled onto this site a couple of times in the past year or so while searching for updates on the Nancy Moyer case. I live in Tenino and have been really disturbed that a woman could just go missing from her home like that in our little town. And then this happens. Very disturbing. What's even more disturbing for me is that this is my bike path - I live on Churchill Rd. and have spent many afternoons walking or riding my bike along this path with friends. (BTW - the map that you made needs to be corrected. The bike path is not at 507 and Mull St, it's at 507 and Churchill Rd. If you come to the end of Churchill Rd, there is the bike path. Mull St is on the other side of the highway.) And to top it all off, while I did not know Vanda personally, I met her and talked with her and her friend that she moved here with two weeks after they arrived from New York this past spring. She was a massage therapist in Olympia. She also worked at a spa in McKenna occasionally as a massage therapist, which is where I met her (my friend worked at the spa). I remember her as being a very quiet and sweet woman.
I'm shocked that this has happened, and it actually hasn't really sunk in yet as a reality. It's just too surreal to me.
I really hope that this is the guy responsible for Nancy's disappearance, but for some reason I just don't think so.

Welcome to WS CJN!!! Happy to have a local posting here.
Why do you think BKH is not "the" one? Just curious ...

Welcome to Websleuths CJN!
:Welcome-12-june:

It's nice to have someone local posting here.
Thank you for the info on the map. I've made some changes to it - let me know how you like it.

Is there anything specific you can think of that leads you to believe Howell may not be involved in Nancy's disappearance or is it just a gut feeling?

Anyone know his background? How long has he lived in the area? Where is he from originally, etc?

Great question for one of the locals Sarx. I found a marriage record in WA for his parents in 1983. News said he went to HS in Olympia, so I would say he's local to the area. Not sure about Tenino specifically.

Sorry for the OT; I have been meaning to ask you this Sarx. I bought a book by an author named Tom Brown Jr., it sounded very interesting. Hubby read it and liked it. Are yAnou familiar with him?

The tracker? Yes.

Just wondering how long he's been in Tenino.

I read somewhere that he was going to weight her down and put her in water. Locals, what areas would he be referring to?

Thanks for the welcoming everyone.

I guess that my feeling that he isn't responsible for Nancy is due to the clear fact that he just isn't "all there". It seems to me that someone that would actually ask a total stranger to help them move a body isn't someone that would be able to do something to Nancy and keep totally quiet about it. That was a year and a half ago and I'm sure that he would have slipped up about it at some point and would have been discovered. I hope I'm wrong though. I really want to know what happened to Nancy and to have them off the street. This is a very quiet, small, town and it sucks to not feel safe here.

I have no idea what swamp he may have been referring to; I'm not familiar with any swamps in the area - but that isn't saying much because I'm not that familiar with the places outside around here besides the bike trail and the local park. There is a creek that you can stop at on the bike trail - the trail goes over it and you can go down to the bank. I think that I've heard of some swampy places around here, but not sure where they are. I'm sure there are a lot of areas though. This is western Washington after all, and down here we get more rain than Seattle. There are a lot of wetland areas in the Tenino area, and they can get pretty boggy.

I don't think I'm going to be much help as a local; I guess I just needed to reach out somehow because this has hit so close to home.

Missing woman's case turns toward Tenino murder suspect

LACEY, Wash. - Friends of a missing woman are finding new hope and fear in the arrest of a young Tenino man accused of a brutal murder. Police are now investigating if Bernard K. Howell was involved in the almost 2-year-old disappearance of Nancy Moyer.

"This not knowing, this void, it kills you. It's a wound that never heals," says Bev Poston. Both Poston and Kim Collins work at the Department of Ecology with Moyer.

"People would come up to you, in the bathroom and the hallways, 'Have you heard anything? Any news?'" says Collins.

The two of them have taken part in countless searches for their friend. The 36-year-old mother of two disappeared from her Tenino home in march 2009.

"She had a glass of wine on the table she had her TV on," says Poston. "She probably went outside to have a cigarette. She never smoked in her house or maybe someone came to the door."

Her home is just a mile away from the home of 26-year-old Howell, who was arrested Sunday after a woman's body was found in his truck. Police say it seems to be a random murder. Howell used the truck to sell meat door-to-door.

He lived ONE MILE from Nancy? Oh man. If he's responsible, please oh please let him just spill it now!

  • #439
I just think if he was responsible he would have yapped already about it. He sure didn't keep this one a secret.

True. But maybe he did and no one took him seriously. You know - the whole hindsight is 20/20 thing. He's got to be a bit looney toons to have asked someone to help him with the body.
