WA WA - Nancy Moyer, 36, Tenino, 6 March 2009

Maybe not. The article about him being declared competent to stand trial makes it sound as though basically everything has been on hold while he was being treated, so maybe he hasn't said anything yet.

The article linked below has a lot of details Carbuff. He initially told police he found Vanda and was just trying to save her family the cost of paying for her funeral. He was going to weight her down and throw her into a swamp

Many of us several pages upstream wondered if that was what he could have done with Nancy's body?

Soulmagnet, I have never read that her phone was unplugged.

Exactly! I thought it too much of a coincidence. I was convinced they had the guy.
I mean, if there were any connection to Nancy's disappearance, LE would have said something by now... right?

I was surprised LE even mentioned a possible connection to Nancy's case so early on.

I do hope his Father is cooperating with LE, hopefully he could remember what his son was doing around the time Nancy went missing. I know he loves his son, but Nancy's girls also loved their Mom and deserve to be able to put her disappearance to rest.

Yes, I know what he did and what he said, which did make it sound like a connection to Nancy's case. I was addressing the question of why LE hasn't said anythign since, and suggesting that it was because they had to delay following up on his statements. The article from January included this quote:

Thurston County Sheriff’s Lt. Greg Elwin confirmed Thursday that the sheriff’s office wants to interview Howell “about anything else he may have been involved with – specifically, the Moyer disappearance.” During the time in which Howell was declared incompetent to stand trial, it was impossible for detectives to arrange such a meeting, Elwin said Thursday.

That would have set back the inquiry by several weeks, so it seems to me that it's entirely possible there is a link that they're following up on, but haven't been able to publicize yet.

Pardon me Carbuff, I see what you are saying now.

No problem. I'm sorry if I sounded snarky -- it was a long day. I just wish they'd find Nancy.

I kinda don't think they would have mentioned the possibility the way they did if they didn't already think it was pretty likely that this guy was involved, y'know? Like maybe they already had their eye on him?

It is so close to Nancy's home. Praying that Nancy or Lindsey family has an answer soon.
I know there is another recent missing woman from that same area of WA. I cannot remember her name.

Man pleads guilty to killing woman on Tenino trail

A 27-year-old man arrested in August after he was pulled over in Tenino with a dead woman in his pickup has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.

[snip]

Thurston County Sheriff’s Lt. Greg Elwin said Friday that Howell is considered a “person of interest” in the disappearance of Nancy Moyer from her Tenino home in March 2009. Moyer, a mother of two, was 36 when she went missing. She has never been found.

Moyer’s home is located about a mile from the Tenino house where Howell lived with his father.

Elwin said Howell is considered a person of interest in Moyer’s disappearance due to the proximity of Moyer’s disappearance to the location of Boone’s homicide, and the timeline of the two incidents. Elwin did not want to elaborate on the nature of the sheriff’s ongoing investigation of Moyer’s disappearance.

Moyer vanished from her home March 6, 2009, leaving her car, purse, wallet, credit cards and identification in her home. Her husband came home to find the front door ajar, the television on and a glass of wine on the coffee table in the living room.

Despite repeated searches, clues in Moyer’s disappearance have been scarce.

Did they ever release anything about the fingerprint or prints that they were testing or comparing a long time ago? Or do I have my cases mixed up?

I don't think they ever released the fingerprint information.

I hope answers can be found for Nancy.

Hi, Sitting at work this afternoon I sat up straight and said to myself, Hey, :websleuther: maybe I can find out something about the Harts Lake 'found remains'. I called the Pierce County SD who put me thru to the ME's office.

I told her there were 2 missing girls in So Wa, Lindsey and Kayla Mae, and there are several of us wondering why there has been no public info put out about the age and sex of the remains.

At first the gal said they are keeping that info private for now and she implied they are still doing forensic testing {for ID purposes - she said that as an afterthought}. I then asked her if there was a specific reason they are withholding that info from the public and all she said was, "well . . . . ."

Wanting to learn a bit more, I started talking about Lindsey and Kayla, then telling her Zina's remains had been found only 16 miles from the new find at HL. She immediately lowered her voice and told me the person was not a child. I thanked her allot for the info.

After I hung up I felt a little smile float across my face. Maybe a 'save' for Lindsey and Kayla for right now as they're not at the ME's office in Tacoma. I don't think LE has evidence of either girl's death. That means we can still hope they are with us. Ya Ya

I still hold Nancy Moyer close to my heart with hope she is still alive.

The above was posted by Scandi over in the Lindsey Baum thread. Kudos to her for making the call, thank you Scandi!

Pierce County sheriff’s detectives believe the bones found earlier this month in a wooded area near Harts Lake belonged to an adult homicide victim.
Investigators believe the person was killed somewhere else, then dumped off a hiking trail, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said Friday. He declined to say how the as-yet-unidentified person was killed.

Detectives hope to learn more when they get the results of DNA typing and an examination of the bones by a dentist and anthropologist. The results could be weeks away.

I notice it says they still don't know the gender.

Maybe a skull, but no pelvic carbuff?

Maybe a skull, but no pelvic carbuff?

That would be one possible reason, though the skull usually has clues as well. I have read that skeletons of small men or robust athletic women who haven't had children can be especially hard to tell.

Since they're talking about having specialists examine the remains, it might simply be that the person who did the autopsy didn't have the expertise to deal with older remains. Or they might be pretty sure but waiting for the DNA results to confirm it.

Hi Knox, Maybe it was that he had the OPPORTUNITY timewise in both cases ~ he was in the area or close by when they disappeared.
