I don't think Canada was ever really his destination. I don't think it was a ruse/red herring either. I think that in re: to Canada, he was just looking to see if anything was available. One can check out possibilities without it being a concrete plan as a place to go or a place to flee to. If he was unemployed & unhoused, maybe he was just looking for any possible jobs or ideas that might be somewhat in the vicinity.

I don't think he's trying to get across the border. That would have more implications for him in the long run (money, ID, etc.) vs. staying in the US, laying low in wilderness areas, etc. As has been mentioned, his plans may also be dependent on taking advantage of opportunities that arise & then adapting as needed (such as hitchhiking which may take him in a general direction he wants to go but not necessarily the exact location he wants to be.)

I think he pre-planned this entire thing, murdering his girls to stick it to his ex, & the escape, perhaps by secreting supplies somewhere ahead of time that he could gather on his way out of the area. He's trained to survive in the wilderness & I think that's what he's doing while staying one step ahead of LE. I get the feeling this may end up like an Eric Rudolph situation -- he'll be found randomly while he's having to "break cover" to find or steal food or other needed supplies.

I do hope the most recent sightings are legit & that LE catches up with him sooner rather than later.

Jmo.

If the witnesses were able to get that close to TD to see exactly what he was wearing, tattoos etc., why didn’t one of them discreetly snap a pic or video him? Seems like they took a long look as to know what type of shoes he was wearing, earrings and so forth. It doesn’t appear that they thought he was a threat if they looked at him that long. Imo

I feel like taking in details of him is a different risk level that pulling out a phone

I don't recall hearing that the guy that looked like TD who was seen in ID didn't respond when spoken to.

Idaho News 6 reported, citing the U.S. Marshal spokesman, that the family who reported the sighting said the man tried to avoid eye contact and didn't respond when spoken to.

Search called off in Idaho…just someone who apparently looked somewhat like Decker.

The Marshalls found the hiker who was believe to be TD and interviewed him. It was NOT him.

Just as I thought. As well as the witnesses were too exact in description.

Thought I'd post a link to the source of info.

Sad that his whereabouts are still unknown, but as an Idahoan, relieved that I can go hiking or camping without wondering semi-realistically if he's right up the trail contemplating if I have anything worth relieving me of, or worse.

Looks like they are back to a recovery mission where they had left off, like they were doing until this tip came in that didn't pan out.

Recently, investigators acknowledged the possibility that the father accused of killing his young daughters may have died in the wilderness, and shifted part of their search into a recovery effort.

What myself and some others here have maintained all along. TD is no longer amount the living.

I find it consistent with his craziness that yes, he would take his own life in some fashion.

OTOH, I wouldn't bet my life on it. He's unpredictable. I do think he's not up for longterm life in the mountains in any case.

I think the reason I mostly want to believe he ended his own life is because in some small way that signals (to me) maybe a tiny sign of remorse/self hatred or no will to live after realizing the wretchedness of his act. I hope he suffered before if he ended his life.

I understand this can be seen as a cowardly act and a way to not be accountable with no justice - which I agree. But I think I would rather that than knowing he could just carry on, go on living, get a new identity, reinvent himself, carry on and start fresh.

No doubt he's a disturbed man, but I would find it more disturbing if he carried on ala Chris Watts in prison life who seems to be doing just fine, ugh!

Yeah, I get the feeling this is going to turn out to be one of those cases where it takes years to find his body and he's just 100 or so feet away from where the girls were found.

ITA, I think he may be close to the girls as well if deceased.

How disappointing that the tips didn't lead to anything in Idaho. If TD unalived himself, please let him be found finally. That part of this horrible tragedy needs resolution for WD and all the girl's loved ones.

If captured alive, I wonder if TD would speak to his motivations and actions at all?

Probably not...such a cold and cowardly thing he did to his own beautiful little girls. I still can't comprehend what he did and I won't let myself think about what was going through the minds of Paityn, Evelyn, and Olivia. <shudder>

Sorry resources were diverted to Idaho for the look-a-like. Again, I think Decker will eventually be recovered from the nearby Icicle Creek/ River. JMO

Teams now deployed to Icicle Creek

While drones and helicopters have searched Icicle Creek from above, safer conditions have now allowed swift water crews to go in for a closer look.

I think a factor for me is TD had extensive military SURVIVAL training. Unless his mental state overcome him I am concerned he has survived.

Interview of the guy who was tipped as Travis Decker--but is not.
Wow! The resemblance to me is so close, especially from a distance. Maybe the eyes are different, but, he said he was wearing sun glasses . I can see how they would have thought he was TD.
Really , too bad it wasn't !
