NOT GUILTY WA - Parents try to kidnap daughter over forced marriage - November 3, 2024 (NG of attempted murder; Guilty of lesser charges)

Welcome to the 3rd century! 🤦‍♂️

Terrifying footage obtained by the Daily Mail from the bus cameras shows the dramatic alleged crime, and the heroic response of the girl's classmates, for the first time.
What I find strange is they picked not only a VERY public spot for this assault, but there were kids all over the place! I mean.... didn't they wait till the child either goes home, or wait for no people to be around? That makes no sense to me. They wanted her that badly, at that precise moment, that they risked being seen and beat up? Very strange. But then again, it's very strange IMO, to arrange a marriage for a child. Obviously I didn't grow up where that's common and OK to do... smh

Thank goodness all those people and the youngsters dived in like they did to help the daughter. Without them there it's anyone's guess the outcome.

How on earth the daughter will be able to carry on in life with the fear of who she can trust. Every day she would be knotted up inside.

Even if (hopefully happens) her parents are put into Jail for many many years she of course knows there are lots of other people in the extended family that might do what the parents were stopped from doing.

DAILY TRIAL HIGHLIGHTS

DAY 2 – 7/15/25

  • The daughter of Ihsan and Zahraa Ali testified against her parents in their attempted murder case.
  • Fatima told the jury that the conversation between her and her father began calmly, and they spoke softly in Arabic. She admitted to talking back to him, and the conversation grew louder, and her father looked “frustrated” before the assault.
  • Fatima said as she was boarding the Intercity Transit Bus, when Ihsan Ali, her father, grabbed her by her hoodie and said, “My daughter.”
  • When Fatima was asked about how she felt following the incident, she said, “Heartbroken for what my dad did and was afraid of dying.”
  • A student who was waiting on the city transit bus stated he tried to help free Fatima by kicking Ihsan Ali in the head to free Fatima from her father’s grasp.
  • Fatima Ali had visible scratches on the side of her neck.
  • Witnesses describe Fatima as pale and lifeless, as her dad had her in a chokehold.
  • Fatima testified that when she woke up, she remembers her mother’s voice and holding onto her by her chest and neck. She testified that her mother, Zahraa Ali, was not trying to hurt her and was sad.
  • On the morning of October 18, 2024, Fatima Ali ran away from home because she did not want to travel to Iraq with her mom and her siblings. Fatima told jurors that she packed up all her clothes and hygiene products and took $100 from her mom before she left her home. She acknowledged that she was aware they were traveling to obtain Iraqi passports for her younger brothers.
  • Jurors were shown images of injuries to “Isiah’s” face following the incident outside of his school, where he was attempting to protect his girlfriend, Fatima.
  • Fatima and Isiah had been dating for a year before Fatima’s family found out she was dating, which is against the rules in her household.
  • Ihsan and Zahraa Ali withdrew Fatima from high school during her senior year and enrolled her in online courses because she had been skipping school, and to keep her away from Isiah.
  • A juror was excused with cause after falling ill during the proceedings and could not return.

All the students, the bus driver, and the Army Veteran who ultimately saved this young girl's life are all heroes. I hope this young lady finds a safe home to grow up in, away from her horrible parents. I wonder how they feel when their daughter testified she feels safe at her high school, but not at home. What failures they are as parents.

I take it they will serve their sentences in the US and be promptly deported back to Iraq afterward (and banned from re-entry)? And what about the older sister who was also present? Seems she would also pose a threat to the victim.

If they are U.S. citizens, they won't be deported.

I, too, worry about other relatives, including the sister who was present. Fatima Ali also has a paternal uncle who lives in Canada with her paternal grandmother (this was reported in MSM article upthread). Who knows what other relatives are around.

Thanks, Sundog. Do you know anything about the father's occupation? I couldn't find anything online. Would they send people to harm her? At least there are resources in the US for abused women, hopefully she can find a way to keep safe. It's terrible she has to relive this in front of them, she must be terrified.

OLYMPIA, Wash. — The trial continues for two Lacey parents accused of trying to kill their 17-year-old daughter in a possible “honor killing.”

On the third day of trial, jurors continued to hear from the victim as she described being attacked by her father in October 2024.

I have been wondering if the parents had any intent to take her home. I thought they might be taking her straight to the airport and boarding. Not taking chances that she might get away at home.

I don't know anything about the father's occupation. Also don't know if anyone else in the family would try to harm her. Her sister is still local so could try to keep tracking her. I wonder if FA will have to change schools and go into hiding for awhile in some safe space, hope if that's the case that she can continue to get her education.

This article posted upthread by @Seattle1 states that the mother tried to escape to Canada where her husband's brother and mother live, once she heard that she might be arrested following her husband's arrest.

Police did not realize Zahraa also allegedly tried to kill her daughter until four days later, leaving her free to continue looking for her daughter, who was in hiding.

She was finally detained by customs officers on the night of October 22 while trying to cross into Canada.

Victor Barnes, the father of the girl's boyfriend, told DailyMail.com that Zahraa had fled to the border after prosecutors moved to charge her along with Ihsan.
He claimed Zahraa was in court with Haneen at Ihsan's arraignment when prosecutors said they believed she was also a threat and were seeking an arrest warrant.
'The second she hears that, she runs out the courtroom,' said Barnes...

Barnes claimed Zahraa drove her youngest children, two boys aged five and three, into Canada and dropped them off with an uncle who lived there.

She then reportedly returned to Washington before trying to cross into Canada a second time.

During this time, police compiled statements from the girl, her boyfriend, and other witnesses and issued an arrest warrant flagging her passport.

Barnes said the two older sisters were also with their uncle in Canada, but he wasn't sure when or how they got there.

It doesn't make sense to me as an American because killing one's daughter for disobedience isn't what anyone would do (or at least very few). There is utter disregard for women in some cultures, women aren't viewed as human, in other words. And clearly the poor girl's mother isn't any better.

Wait, it gets worse!

Mom was correctly charged with attempted murder from the beginning, and her bail was set at $500K, and she's been in custody ever since her arrest on 10/23/24.

For reasons I'll never understand, Dad was NOT initially charged with attempted murder, and appearing before a different Judge, his bail was set at only $150K, and he posted bond and was released!

Dad was walking around for 12 days before he was finally re-arrested and charged with attempted murder, and his bond was raised to $1M. He's been in custody ever since.

What do you make of this? Another case that I'm beside myself considering the video, witness accounts, etc. 12 days is a long time, when he should have been arrested and held just like the wife.

Boy Fatima is so lucky that this went down in the US...if they had gotten on a plane and went to Iraq I think she would be dead.
