Yeah really, Jeana!

I seriously doubt Bryan will receive the death penalty, if convicted. Although I'm not quite sure he doesn't deserve it.

He may well deserve it, but if its used every time its available, it won't be available when people like Couey and Westerfield need it. Is he a further danger to society or was he only a danger to them? Did he indeed have emotional problems? There may be mitigating factors to consider here.

You're right, of course, Jeana! DP should be saved for the worst of the worst.

But, on the other hand, Couey and Westerfield didn't murder the very person(s) that brought them into the world - their very own flesh and blood. I find that unfathomable and it scares the bejezeers out of me to think that anyone could be capable of that.

I wonder if Bryan's sister, Jessica, who is now parentless, would want him to get a death sentence.

Here are snippets from another article:

Bryan Kim formally charged in Mt Spokane deaths
Civil proceeding also underway

Last updated: Thursday, January 11th, 2007 08:03:13 PM

As the criminal matter moves forward, there is also a civil proceeding underway; one where Bryan Kim's sister is now struggling to settle her parents' estate and needs her brother's help to do it.

Jessica Kim is expected to testify against her brother in trial, detailing his previous attacks on their parents and that the victim's had told Bryan he would need to move out of the home by January 1, 2007.

Ordinarily, Bryan Kim would be barred from talking to the State's witnesses, but Thursday his Defense Attorney won the right for the siblings to at least be able to visit about their parents' financial affairs.

The article also stated that Kim will be arraigned on January 23rd. He's expected enter a not guilty plea.

True, but they raped and murdered little children. Couey burried her alive. I don't think we can abuse the death sentence, so I guess if I had to choose, I'd rather use it on these guys.

Bryan seems to have had severe problems since at least first grade. There's got to be more wrong than mental illness because I thought all mental illness could be controlled with the proper medication.
I'm not an expert, but I don't think all mental illness can be successfully controlled with medecine by any stretch of the imagination.

my very first thought as soon as i saw the headline, was that he killed them over an argument regarding something internet or video game-related. and, SURE ENOUGH. i would bet my last dollar he was a world of warcraft addict.

Bryan Kim, the mentally ill teenager convicted by a Spokane jury last month of murdering his parents, will spend the rest of his life in prison with no possibility of parole.

Before his sentencing Thursday by Spokane County Superior Court Judge Tari Eitzen, Kim rose and asked for the 44-year sentence his public defender had proposed as an alternative to life behind bars – a request Eitzen denied.

Note: Washington's offender information is pretty tight. The only thing I was able to find out is that he is housed at the Wasington State Penitentiary.
