WoW! Talk about spooky. It was like the victim's spirit orchestrated how the weapon was located. The gun was the final nail in the perp's coffin.

Seriously, what are the odds of this happening?

Nine days after Huntley's July 1 shooting on Interstate 82 outside Selah, a Richland man jumped to his death from the Fred Redmon Bridge, just north of the Selah Creek rest area.

A state trooper who entered the canyon to investigate the suicide spotted a handgun when he stumbled, most literally, over a sagebrush.

Because the rest area is within a half mile or so north of where Harwood claimed to pick up the hitchhiker, detectives decided to send the pistol off to the crime lab.

I'm glad to see that he is now arrested.

But I am puzzled about the man who had the gun, and allegedly committed suicide. How did he fit into the story? How did he get the gun?

Hmmmm . . . Haven't I heard this story or a slight variation of it before? :waitasec:

sounds like charles stuart in boston. only he managed to make it nearly impossible to say the wound was self inflicted at least ( a very angles shot to the side of his stomach) and a much more serious wound

I only have one question. The shot to his hand, did he do it on purpose or was he aiming at something else and his hand got in the way? Doesn't he know that if you really want to shoot someone and get by with it, you have to shoot yourself first and do it in a lethel area? Otherwise you are going to be arrested. And it won't be any fun being in jail with a sore hand. They aren't real good about giving pain meds.

Why is it that when someone commits a crime now they always blame it on a "hispanic guy"?

cause blaming it on the black guy went out of style

The gun was found by an LE Officer who happened to stumble upon it, when investigating a suicide in the area.

Since it was near the highway where Sheryl was murdered, the officer brought to to LE and therefore DNA was done on the gun which confirmed the blood was Stephen's. Something like that.

The suicide guy jumped from a bridge....the gun just happened to be near where the guys body was. Police stumbled upon it while investigating the suicide. It seems Harwood tossed the gun away after the killing. Suicide guy and gun....no connection.

YAKIMA -- Stephen Harwood reloaded his single-shot derringer five times as he fatally shot his girlfriend and staged her death to blame it on a hitchhiker, a prosecutor said Tuesday.

Harwood, of Thompson Falls, Mont., was sentenced Tuesday to more than 33 years in prison. He pleaded guilty in Yakima County Superior Court to second-degree murder in the July 1, 2009, death of former Yakima resident Sheryl Huntley.

OMG, I recall this case from the time she was shot and killed, until he was arrested.

Justice served.

But, the victim is still gone forever.:(

Bless this family and prayers they will eventually heal. Never forget, but heal so they can carry on to lead a normal life.

I can't tell you how happy I am fran. Kept checking if he was going to be arrested and charged with murder.

Must have been lucky tonite to find the article where he has been finally sentenced to more than 33 years.

Hope the other WS's who followed this case will see that justice is served for Sheryl, although like you say above, nothing can bring Sheryl back to her loved ones. But at least this murderer will be out of society for a very long time.
