Yet, the Mom was given custody of the children instead of the Dad. And, the daughter is now in foster care instead of being with the Dad??

I think they're erring on the side of caution. Since this is such a hornet nest of passionate hate between these two, I think it's anybody's guess at this point who took that boy. Certainly doesn't appear to be random. And it seems like they may fear someone will abscond with the girl, too, if that child is still in the custody of this family.

No, that pictured was uploaded to Flickr on Mar 3, 2011 so it had to have been taken before then.

That makes me question the mother's story even more. He just happened to be wearing the same outfit? Or she needed to come up with a description of what he was wearing and described what was in the picture?

I also wonder if the same outfit he wore in March would fit him 8 months later. At 39 pounds, Sky is a big boy for a two-year-old. My son weighed that in the spring of first grade--he was almost 7. He was perfectly healthy, just very small for his age. I bring that up because my son wore the same clothes for a long time, because he grew so slowly. But a 39-lb toddler would outgrow clothes quickly.

So, according to the father, she had dreams about strangling the youngest child? And now that child is missing? I noticed that the little boy looked just like the father, while the little girl-not so much.

And yet this father did nothing to protect his children? Did he not believe her? He hasn't seen the children since December, why not? It sounds like he had the upper hand in the divorce, maybe he didn't want the children full time.

Complicating matters is a prior incident at the Redmond Target store two years ago, where the parents left the same child, then just a baby, sleeping in his car seat as the two shopped. An onlooker called police. Sky was left alone for nearly an hour.

Resnick initiated the first known classification system for motives of filicide about 40 years ago. The rarest and most unpredictable is revenge. (More common in paternal than maternal filicide, imo, but certainly not impossible.)

Resnick concluded mothers are most often responsible when a child under the age of 12 is murdered however (according to more recent statistical data) fathers tip the scales as children age. To clarify: Mothers and fathers are about equally culpable 53-47% across all filicides but the younger/older the victims the more those statistics vary. Mothers are more likely to kill younger children while fathers older. Boys are slightly more at risk of filicide than girls - under ones are most vulnerable but the 2nd highest category of filicide lands at the under 4s.

Psychotic filicides of only one child while allowing siblings to live are almost unheard of. I think it important to realise that while the mother in this case may be mentally ill it may well not rise to the level of a psychotic filicide...think of comparing Andrea Yates to Susan Smith. They should not be compared even though they committed the same act, kwim? When a psychotic mother kills her children she most often kills them all. Non-psychotic mothers, however, whom are not killing to benefit themselves are able to isolate a sole victim (based on research by Hatters Friedman). It could be a characteristic of another of Resnick's categories as well - the unwanted child.

Of 131 cases Resnick studied 14% were classed under 'unwanted child' and 4% under 'revenge'. He also found depression in 71% of the cases he reviewed.

There hasn't been enough research into possible precursors of filicides but there has been a lot of research done relatively recently by forensic psychiatrist Susan Hatters Friedman - several papers she's authored are available online. She is a great resource for learning more.

I also have about a gazillion links if anyone needs them. I hope they find this little cutie, preferably safe and alive...but if Mom is guilty of filicide I pray LE find him and have enough to convict her.

Concerning the question of what happens when someone marries in order to gain US citizenship and then gets a divorce, I can't really answer. But, even illegals who enter the US and have natural born children while in the US, are granted citizenship since their children are Americans by birth.

That exact same thought just popped into my head! I am not sure, you would think not. But maybe if she bought the oufit like a size too big, but even then it does seem like a toddler would be growing out of it quickly. It has been a while since I had little ones, can't remember.

Depends on what size clothing he had on. Was he wearing a bigger size in the photo? I can't really tell.

When my children were toddlers, I'd always buy bigger winter clothing to last them for at least an extra year. If they were 2 for example, I'd buy a size 3 or even 4. Also depends on the child's development. Some kids grow faster than others.

The child's father, Solomon Metalwala, told Fox affiliate KCPQ-TV that Biryukova suffers from mental illness and may be withholding information from authorities.

One of my girls could have, and one of mine would not have been able to (I don't have any boys though). Depends on the child, really. But most kids that age grow like a weed.

And if you have enthusiastic grandparents involved (like I do with my children), they like to buy the outfits they find cute in several sizes. I even do that if I find something I really like, especially if it is a good deal. My children have had certain outfits in several sizes.

Reading through the thread this also struck me a strange. It seems like there are no really recent pictures of Sky. The one given to the police just happens to be one of him in a car seat, wearing clothes similar to what she described. Assuming mom gave the picture, I agree with you Bodhi, that she could have made the story match the picture.

A two year old changes quite a bit in 8 months, so the pictures we are seeing are all pretty old.
