Found Safe WA - Stanley Haviland, 68, visiting from Australia, discharged from hospital after severe confusion, missed flight home, Renton, 5 Oct 2022

I wish we knew which hotel he was staying at, I wonder if he was trying to walk back. That’s 10-ish miles down one hill, across a valley, and up, over, and down another hill. Also, temperatures are dropping, the clothes he was wearing are not nearly warm enough. Was his cell with his belongings?

I’m relatively local, and yes, those areas have been rough neighborhoods for a long time and not places to be alone at night on foot. If he’s still missing by this weekend, I can drive around and look for him. This sweet man shouldn’t be alone out there. I’m really pissed that Valley Medical let a foreign elderly tourist who suffered confusion just leave on foot, even if he was “medically stable.”
Sadly enough, we hear about these events almost a week after it happens. Where does one find him now, if he was last seen around on the 5th? I could drive around last Sunday, although I have last been to Kent 10 years ago.

Is it possible that SH has some acquaintances in the area? Does he use a US cellphone?

I'm wondering if he checked himself out AMA. Something in one of the reports almost sounded that way. I that's the case, and he was determined to be of sound mind at the time, I don't think the hospital can keep him against his will.

Legally speaking, you cannot hold a person against their will. If someone is not an imminent threat to themselves or others (and if his confusion cleared up, he wouldn't be) and has capacity to make their own decisions, you must, by law, discharge them. We don't know what went down in this case, but my guess is that his mental status cleared and he asked for discharge.

I am holding out hope that Stanley will be found alive and it will be a happy day of sunbeams into everywhere and Websleuths. … I wonder if Stanley has any behaviors that might make it easier to spot him. Appreciates a stiff cocktail of a certain type? … doesn’t drink at all, would order soda at a tavern? … smokes? … finds value in a certain kind of OTC medication, like a heartburn med or a mild pain treatment, anything that the drugstore workers in the area could be asked to listen for and look for? … I hope so.

I stumbled across this thread while looking for updates. Stan is my colleague, we've worked together for 6 and a half years, so in response to some of the questions: Stan is a true adventurer, walking in Shackleton's footsteps at every opportunity. He loves the sea and his happy place is on or watching ships. He was on his way home to Sydney when he stopped off in Seattle, following a trip to Iceland.
He loves art- the walls of our workplace are covered (and I mean covered) in art and prints that he has personally put up around the place; mostly photos of iconic destinations and ships. If he's not sailing the seven seas, he's scooting round Sydney on his electric scooter (the type you stand on).
I really appreciate the kind comments here, and I hope he's sitting at a dockyard somewhere watching the boats come and go.

Every time I see a new post I hold my breath hoping Stan has been found safe.

Family members told KIRO 7-TV that they traveled to Washington from Australia to retrace his steps and assist local authorities.

“We’ve been close to him all our lives. He’s single. He’s like another dad, we’re like his children,” said Nathan and Andrew Pickering, both nephews to Haviland. “At the moment, we’ve got no leads. Like we’re on zero, so we’re just reaching out to people to help and to come forward.”

The latest news I can find. From 10 hours ago.

10-11 UPDATE: MISSING PERSON: HAVE YOU SEEN STANLEY HAVILAND?

Photo from CPC Cyndie M.

UPDATE: 10-11-22 @ 1:40 p.m. - We have made a height adjustment on graphic below based on new information provided by family. Note Mr. Haviland is about 5'-8" to 5'9" rather than 5'4" we had listed before. Thank you.

Reports are still coming out that he is 5'4 so thought I'd post this, even though it has been mentioned before.

FOUND SAFE!

He was located in a landscaping area under a blanket near 41st and Lind, around the corner and about a block north from where he was last seen. He’s tired and dehydrated, but will be okay. They took him to the hospital, he’s with family.
