Opening Statements were heard July 7, 2015.

This trial for child stems from the previous trial/conviction for voyeurism. The charges were thrown out at that trial.

Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist appealed and won. Despite motions that the 2011 search was illegal, the trial finally began Tuesday.

Powell said he would act as his own counsel, but his voyeurism trial defense attorney Travis Currie presented the opening statements.

Today, Utah detectives are expected to testify.

Steven Powell found GUILTY of child possession after recording young next door neighbors going to the bathroom

The father-in-law of missing Utah mother Susan Powell found guilty Monday

The 65-year-old now faces five years in prison

Already served two years in prison after he took sexually explicit photos of two young neighbors in their bathroom from his bedroom window

He kept the images on a disc for sexual purposes, prosecutors said

Susan Powell disappeared from her home in West Valley City, Utah, in December 2009 and has never been found

Her husband, Steven Powell's son Josh, was long a person of interest in the case but never charged; he killed himself and their two sons in a 2012 fire
