WA - Theresa Bergman (Found Deceased) and Charles Bergman (husband) - didn't arrive home to Moses Lake - 18 Sept 2022 *Arrest*

I know you aren't victim blaming, yet there are some ways where you are getting close.

So no one is allowed to ask their partner for separation for fear it might cause depression?
Respectfully, @Snoopster, this is what you post, this is not what I posted.

I gave the outlook of what would be a normal way out. Charles' depression was witnessed by his daughter, so there is this... However, I would add that it probably was a very angry, black, devoid of emotions depression, because Charles did have the opportunity to refuse picking Theresa up in the airport. No one would have blamed him. Instead, he agreed, and then bought a shovel. And the second worst part after murder is leaving such a horrible heritage to his kids. But since his acts so much defy logic, I think he was mentally ill. Can't comment on more, I don't know their history at all.

I am not encouraging suicide, but it is an option over spousal homicide.

I absolutely agree that there should be better mental health services, but there is no way to force an adult to receive services for the most part. If he didn't want help, he couldn't be forced into it.

He is an adult who made the conscious decision to premeditate the murder and flee the scene. Seeking help was on him. There are resources even if not enough. He appeared to think it through clearly and not act out of a period of psychosis or true insanity. I struggle with depression, I have since childhood, of varying intensity. Murder is not something that you feel compelled to do if depressed. He killed her because he wanted to, of his own free will. IMO.

I wish this story had a happy ending.

I do strongly suspect there was a lot of domestic abuse on the relationship which culminated in the murder when Theresa told him she wanted a separation.
Agree.

IMO he didn’t kill her because of mental illness, he killed her because he was evil; he‘s an entitled jerk who thought his wife was a possession, not a person, and he didn’t want his possession to get away from him. Selfish, misogynist creep.

You said it! Theresa was a human being, she had worth and value, she was surely loved by many. Unfortunately, at the end of the day, Charles killed her. He didn't care about her humanity. He didn't view her as a human being. He just didn't. IMO. She was going to leave and resume a life without his control, and he felt the need to exert his control one last time, with MURDER.

At the end of the day, Theresa was a victim of domestic violence that culminated in her death, and probably had suffered from escalating domestic abuse long before her death.

I am praying for her family to find peace. He is worthless scum and nothing but a monster.

Murder is a horrible crime and there is no excuse for it. My heart breaks for this family.

But one of the biggest problems we have in society right now is the lack of mental health providers and mental health education. Things are increasingly violent in our world. We have all been through unprecedented times and society at large is out of control. People are angry, frustrated, scared, hopeless, and looking for anything that will bring them a bit of relief for the moment.
We need an easy-to-remember national mental health hotline number, such a 911 is used for emergencies.

We do, 988:

Huge media campaign in my area, sorry you missed this!
