The Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office has pieced together a horrific end to her life, as part of charges brought against 32-year-old Matthew R. Leupold. He has been charged with two counts of aggravated murder and first-degree arson...

Greenhalgh’s death, and the case against Leupold, began unfolding just before 3 a.m. on Jan. 6, when the Tacoma Fire Department responded to a house fire.

After extinguishing the blaze, officers found two badly-burned bodies in an upstairs bathroom, one in a bathtub and one nearby. Investigators determined both women had been beaten and decapitated.

His sister, Lindsey Marie Leupold, 36, is accused of rendering criminal assistance after the Tacoma murder... Her 15-year-old son has also reportedly been charged in relation to the crime.

Awful, just awful:

Lindsey Leupold and the teen left the bedroom midway through the attacks and went into another upstairs bedroom to console each other, according to charging papers.

Neither one called for help. ....


After the teen was arrested Monday, he led detectives to where they’d abandoned evidence and to a backpack containing one of the victim’s heads.

I would NEVER have pegged her for mid-30s; I would have said 20 years older. I guess that's one of the many things drugs will do to you.

A Washington state man was handed a prison sentence of 60 years and 11 months in the bludgeoning murder of two women who he later beheaded and left inside their home he set on fire.

Matthew Leupold, 34, of Olympia, Washington, pleaded guilty to two counts of murder and one count of arson in the deaths of Theresa Greenhalgh, 31, and Mary Buras, 22, in their Tacoma, Washington, home on January 4, 2017.

Greenhalgh, a mother of three, is survived by her sons ages 11, 4 and 2.

The lengthy prison term was 10 years more than what was recommended by prosecutors, the News Tribune reported. Superior Court Judge Jack Nevin said it was just the second time in seven years he has made such a determination.

'Justice requires this sentence,' the Judge Nevin said.

Court documents say Leupold told police that he heard voices telling him to kill Greenhalgh after he became 'possessed' during a reported binge of methamphetamine and heroin.
