Sheesh, I finally found this post! Here ya go:
(from post #4, thread #4)

Glad you found it! I knew there was more but didn't see it in search results; had to run out for diapers

Given the extensive review of missing persons in the U.S. and no match, I'm learning heavily towards the idea Lyle is from Canada. His ethic origin appears to be Native. He could have been from Newfoundland or somewhere remote like that, for all we know. However, due to the quality of his dental work I am leaning more towards him having come from around a large city such as Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, or Vancouver.

It's hypothesized that he had "recently" lost approx. 40 lbs, and the autopsy showed no disease. Some massive emotional event transpired in his life. He must have been very traumatized by something. Did he accidentally hit someone with his car an kill them? Did he have horrific remorse? Did someone he loved dearly die, or break up with him?
I'm going to do a little research about six months prior to his suicide in the newspapers in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver. I know it's like a needle in a haystack, but I've got a hunch on this.
I'm leaning towards remorse over an accident, or perhaps involvement in some unsolved crime. I just have this heavy sense of remorse....not so much depression, but remorse.
But hey, just a hunch.

Is it possible to check past police reports (circa. 1991 - mid 2001) for anyone fitting his description or age range at the time? Maybe not as a suspect/criminal but as a witness/victim/pressing charges/person of interest (not "wanted" but "wanted for questioning"). There could be a picture of him amongst any reports.

As far as I can remember, his fingerprints/anything else never came up in any criminal database. Or he was arrested before, but no charges/case was filed.

The hotel guest info. was written by "Lyle" after all.

According to Doe net; sounds like he most likely came from South. What I do not understand is how do neither driver know if he was on their bus? Carl's recon is probably way closer to what he looked like; not what they were shown.
What if we take the bus out of it; someone dropped him off

He arrived by bus, possibly one that came from Port Angeles (south), but a bus came up from Aberdeen (northbound) and arrived about the same time. Neither driver was sure if he was on their bus. He arrived with no luggage, and there was no luggage, clothing, etc. in the motel dumpster.
He may have come from Canada, as the clerk recalled that he had "a slight Canadian accent". The fact he wrote the word "suicide" on a piece of paper found in the trash leads authorities to believe he wrote a letter home, telling someone of his intentions, that he was going to disappear, so they aren't looking for him. He may have been dying, or suffered from depression, as he lost a lot of weight, although nothing was found at the autopsy.
There were no indications that he ever wore a wedding ring.
Fingerprints were sent to FBI and RCMP with negative results.

Thinking of the college near G.H. and wondered if Lyle was supposed to be a student there and just could not face it.
Someone I once knew, was brilliant, but troubled, they would go every day to university, but then just sit outside for almost a year!
Wonder if Lyle's folks sent him a plane/ train ticket to go home and it was exchanged for a cheap bus ticket and he kept the remaining cash " for the room"?
Speculation, imo.

I talked to my mom about him switching rooms, and she didn't quite understand why he would do that. She thought that if he didn't want anyone to hear him dying, wouldn't he have wanted some loud noise to drown it out?

Sounds like a long shot, but he could have had a sensory processing disorder.

Reviewing the posts by CCM I was reminded of the fact that Lyle's handwriting struck him as that of someone in the medical profession. I totally agree after seeing the handwriting samples again.

Reminds me a lot of my dad's writing (physician) and a little bit of my own (nurse practitioner). I saw a lot of charting before EMRs came about and it really does look like medical or technical person script to me.

Medical student who couldn't handle the stress?
Resident who made a mistake that cost someone their life? (Remorse)

2) it was published in 1987, so our lyle is probably too old to have read it in high school, and also the subject matter and depth of the book (imo it's a book for people who like reading snobby books) is such that i'd have a hard time believing any high school teacher would teach it.

(snipped for focus)

Not necessarily. It was being widely read for a couple of years after that, so if he's at the upper end of the estimated age, he could well have read it in high school or more likely college. Oates was a popular author at the time and while her appeal was and remains somewhat intellectual, it wasn't just snob appeal either. It was one of those books like Wolfe's Bonfire of the Vanities that significant numbers of people read because they thought it had something to say about society at the time, even though they haven't aged well.

I like it. My concern would be his pic has probably circulated among the medical community. BUT I don't know that for a fact. I'll be honest, I hadn't heard of him until WS.

o.k. I looked at every profile with a picture, and no Lyle. https://secure.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/missing-disparus/results-resultats.jsf?q=MPA#tp
HOWEVER, I sure did see lots of folks who could have been relatives of his. In particular, I was quite interested in people from Sioux Lookout, ON.
I am more convinced than ever that he has Native ethnicity, and either came from, or has relatives from the eastern Canadian area such as Ontario or Quebec.

There are quite a few Steviks in that part of Canada, as well.

Outofthedark, i thought the exact same thing about the room change. I'm wondering if that motel played a significant role. It is such a remote area of the Washington peninsula, you don't just end up in the Quinalt area by chance, that would seem to be a very specific destination...

IIRC from memory; scars also didn't match up. He was reported after Lyle was found.

At this point, we've gotta look at anyone and everyone. Thank you for taking the time to look!!
