There is a "Lyle Stevik" on Facebook, and apparently living in Amanda Park. (Credit goes to the members of murha.info, who made this discovery) This person's employment history is at a Best Western hotel, but it's not specified how long this person has worked there for. A birthday is listed as September 16th, 1971 and our guy killed himself on September 16th, 2001.

Via sketchy translation (through Google Translator), some of them sound as though they are skeptical of the FB page (Anyone here understand Finnish?)

I should note that they are followers of our discussions (their last post was made 2 days ago), and have a very keen interest in Lyle as well.

I'm willing to post the link to murha if anyone is interested.

Did you "friend" this person on FB? Please post! I'm interested!

No. I'm very careful about who I select as friends on FB. It's hard to get other facts about FB Lyle Stevik, since they set their other information to private, and there are no real photos of this person available (except a profile image of a vicious looking dog)

If you want the translations (about the FB page), I can post them here for you to read. I think I looked up "Lyle Stevik" before on Facebook, and never saw that page.

I would be willing to friend them under the game account I set up under a fake name to play Evony. Let me check it out and see what's up.

  • #145
OK, I just sent the request. Here's hoping something connects.

Be careful!

I'm sure you will, but it's always good to play safe!

I think we should also discuss this with coldcaseman as well.

Nothing on the game FB acct this morning. I'm not really concerned too much about safety since it's a fake name with a photo of Underdog. Although in this crazy world, you can never be too careful.

Can we get those translations posted just to see what they think? if it's not too much trouble, that is.

1. I stayed in this story are now hooked too. Online looking for more information I found on Facebook Stevikin Lyle, who appears to be married, living in Amanda Park, Washington, and generated 09/16/1971 ... Someone believes that probably even a good joke.

2. Someone might consider, but at least I think that type, though much more widespread Pilat are quite tasteless, because they might actually offend someone. [Response to #1]

3. Is it necessarily a joke? Does not it could actually be someone's name? Facebook, can also be found Lyle Stevick. [Response to #1]

4. I found this to Facebook Lyle Stevikin tsekatessani, if there was one man with the same name, which perhaps could be the "Lyle," a familiar and for which this "Lyle" perhaps could have borrowed the name. Heart pomppasikin throat, when the Washington area found that Lyle Stevik. After a while, I noticed, however, that other details of the hit a bit too well kohdilleen: city, it was thought that this "Lyle" died, and the birthday was exactly 30 years before "Lyle's" death. Did not seem terribly plausible.

On the other hand, now that I think about things, miksikäs this "Lyle" could not have the right to borrow the name of Lyle Stevikin and decide the day his home in this 30-year birthday. Very plausible, however, this does not seem to.

I've also wondered whether the name of Lyle Stevik be anagram. I'm googletellut any Kylet, Kellyt, Sun Stevet others, but it is not stoked to have any loose. [Response to #3]

5. It sure brings facebook Lyle Stevik seems like a joke. Stupid like that.

In fact I have with the various anagrammihärpättimien etsiskellyt something with a suitable name and googlaillut, but so far without success.

According to one member laittelimme Lyle pictures and information bit in each country that we hit.

But the years roll.

6. Incidentally, I have often wondered to myself, how much of that Lyle's personality to cope with the possibility that he just talks about "Lyle Stevikina"?

So siivuuttavatko example, some close relatives are looking for the whole thing, because you will automatically issue in the Lyle? Difficult to explain, I hope someone understood.

7. I think tajunneeni .. That is to say that the family assume that Lyle Stevik has already been identified (Lyle Stevikiksi, that is) so do not bother to take a more clear, because someone close had not been named Lyle Stevik ...
But no matter that my clarification tainnu particularly clear way to be .. Well, but still ..
Is in itself perhaps a bit unfortunate that one type is called Lyleksi place where it is now probably not his real name is. For example, Websleuthsissa very first chain is called "Unidentified Male Found September 17th, 2001 in Grays Harbor, Washington," but it is a post-Lyle Stevikejä ..
To facilitate that name, but otherwise we are interested in finding info on the subject, but it MIGHT though it undermines those core "potential" ..
Know then, but tulihan said ..

editor. it was a chain tokakin Websleuthsissa John Doe, but after LS. [Response to #6]

8. That's it. Almost as clearly as I had called myself

Really help us when the person is a kind of personalized it, but the server is not the purpose. Well, who knows.

Thanks. From what I could understand, they definitely feel it is a joke, which it probably is. Some people obviously have too much time on their hands if they find things like that funny to perpetuate. I know many people on this and other forums spend countless hours pouring over photos and details, trying to find matches to put families' minds at ease, and it's discouraging to think that somebody would take the time to set up a fake website to act as a red herring for us.

Oh well. Maybe 2011 will bring closure to this sad case.

Besides, I think if FB Lyle Stevik really existed, we would know about it from CCM or any articles that were made about our guy.

This might sound dumb, but what is your take on this person's FB profile image? My mom thought it was inappropriate.

  • #151
You mean the dog? Well, I know a few friends that have their dogs as their profile picture, so I am less bothered by the pic as I am by the idea of somebody deliberately trying to mislead us with those details.

Yes, I was referring to the dog photo.

I tried to figure out when the FB page was created using the Internet Wayback Machine, but no success.

I think we should also give our Lyle his own Facebook page. Over 500 million people worldwide use the site, and it's (possibly) a better chance of Lyle getting media attention.

It's definitely worth a shot. Nothing else has worked. I know his picture is on an unidentified Facebook page with other unidentifieds, as I have linked to it before in hopes of finding a match.

I did create an FB page for unidentified victims, and the main page picture is of Lyle.

Hakan Karacay
Missing since September 20, 1999 from Clifton, New Jersey
Classification: Missing

Date Of Birth: January 1, 1971
Age at Time of Disappearance: 28 years old
Height and Weight at Time of Disappearance: 6'2"; 180 lbs.
Distinguishing Characteristics: White male. Turkish. Light brown hair; brown eyes.
Marks, Scars: Two scars on forehead.
Clothing: Brown pants, a gray short-sleeve shirt with a grid-pattern design and black leather dress shoes. He had his wallet with him, which held his driver's license and about $200.
Dentals: Dentals available.

Circumstances of Disappearance
Hakan Karacay was reported missing by family members in New Jersey on September 20, 1999. They last saw him on the staircase inside his Lake Avenue apartment building on September 20. Karacay told his sister and father that he would "be right back," then drove away in his older brother's Mazda 626.
The car, a silver, 1989 Mazda with NJ License #RW3-48E was found on September 25, 1999 on Wells Hill Road in Lewis, New York. Wells Hill Road is about five miles west of Route 87 and about 60 miles south of the Canadian border. In good weather, the road is passable and is used by hunters and hikers.
A local resident discovered the vehicle while clearing the road of debris caused by Hurricane Floyd. The road had been blocked by trees. The car was stopped at a washout, on the west side of the washout facing east, and was pulled to the side in mountainous terrain.
Karacay's car was found with the door closed, a dead battery, no gas and with the light switch on.
Hakan Karacay has no connection or contacts in the area. An intensive search of the woods around the car by forest rangers and New York State Police turned up nothing. There were no footprints on or near the road, no signs of a struggle, and no property belonging to Karacay was found inside the car. The only items in the car were two packs of cigarettes - an empty pack of Parliaments, which Karacay smoked, and a pack of Marlboros with two cigarettes left inside.

Karacay is an unemployed Turkey native who immigrated to the United States in 1988. Karacay, who is not married, at the time lived with his mother and father in an apartment complex. Karacay has been unemployed for several years but had worked as a manager in a factory in Paterson, he quit his job after suffering from mild depression.
He is described as being non-violent and non-suicidal. Karacay had never been to the Adirondacks before, or expressed an interest in going there.

I dunno, they just both seem to have an air of neatness about them. Plus, "Lyle" had lost a lot of weight and may have had some connection to NY as in the book.
The morgue shots of Lyle are much better than the recon obviously. There are men that wax their brows. I wish there were a better shot of Hakan.

Case History
The body of this white or Native male was located in a Quinault area motel. His death has been ruled a suicide.
He had checked into the motel using the name "Lyle Stevik" from 1019 S. Progress Avenue, Meridian, Idaho. The address he listed is for a motel. Lyle Stevik is a character in the book You Must Remember This, by Joyce Carol Oates.
He indicated that he was going to stay a few more days though he had only paid for one evening. The maid entered the room on September 17, 2001 and found him hanging from the coat rack with his leather belt. He had left money on the nightstand with a note that said "For the Room". The only personal belongings in his possession was a tooth brush and paste.
He arrived by bus, possibly one that came from Port Angeles (south), but a bus came up from Aberdeen (northbound) and arrived about the same time. Neither driver was sure if he was on their bus. He arrived with no luggage, and there was no luggage, clothing, etc. in the motel dumpster.
He may have come from Canada, as the clerk recalled that he had "a slight Canadian accent". The fact he wrote the word "suicide" on a piece of paper found in the trash leads authorities to believe he wrote a letter home, telling someone of his intentions, that he was going to disappear, so they aren't looking for him. He may have been dying, or suffered from depression, as he lost a lot of weight, although nothing was found at the autopsy.
There were no indications that he ever wore a wedding ring.

I wonder if he could be Mediterranean or Turkish. I have a Lebanese friend and her husband (who is Turkish) looks extremely like Lyle.

I always thought of Lyle as possbily having Mediterranean background. There's three continents that surround the Mediterranean Sea, and several countries from Europe (Spain, Portugal, Monaco, Italy, Malta, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Turkey), Asia (Turkey, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Egypt), and Africa (Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco)

I wonder what the results of one of those ethnicity and ancestry DNA tests would show for Lyle. I hear a lot of conflicting feedback on their usefulness though. Poor guy. Maybe he wanted it this way but it's a shame that he's been nameless for almost a decade now.

I think that in this instance, despite the possible inconclusiveness of those tests, they authorities should do one anyway. I do not think that it would hurt at all.

I like all the posters in the forum, but we seem to go around and around on his ethnicity. I have done it myself. I wish there was a test that could at least determine some part of his. Is there? What are the possibilities with this? Just curious.
