I was thinking about Lyle's stuff. I looked at the historical weather data of Amanda Park. On 17-9-2001 minimum temperature 13 degreesCelcius, max temperature 16 degrees Celsius (Weather station airport Bowerman) Theday before colder with min. temp. 11/12 C max. temp. 13 C (Weather station airport Bowerman) (I Could not find the exact historical data for Amanda Park, the site keeps changingAmanda Park entered to Hoquiam) I'm not sure if this could make a big difference in temperature (high, low, mountains, woods etc.)

Traveling from a warmer region I would think it was chilly for him and he would have worn a coat, or at least something warmer than what he had on when he was found.

Some things from the summery: They don't know/recall if he had a backpack and "Idon't recall seeing any wear marks indicating a wallet or anything he usuallykept in his pockets".

"The crisp bills suggest he either just got them from an ATM, or had them in a wallet or packed away. He didn't have them shoved in his pocket. No wallet was found, no identication on his trowsers that he had a wallet in it"

Let's say he threw away almost all his stuff, ID, phone, coat or the like, wallet, before he checked in and kept the money or a debit card.

I'm not sure about a backpack. I guess he had to had something with him. He shaved, where did he keep his shaving gear? He had a toothbrush/toothpaste. He had money on him or at least had to have a debit card/credit card if he went to an ATM.

Where did he keep his debit card/credit card or the money? Di
dthe blue plaid shirt had a pocket, where he could put in the fresh bills neatly? Did he buy the newspaper only to carry the money in? The paper did look very neat, almost not touched/read. Most likely he kept the money in his shirt pocket (if there was one) because they where folded one time. On his way back to the motel after buying a newspaper (eventually getting money from an ATM) he threw everything else away.

Or he was on his way with somebody in a car, kicked out of the car, taking only the thing a was carrying on him, leaving the other things in the car. Pacing up and down the highway hoping the person came back but when she or he did not, decided to end his life....nahhhh.....than you would at least try to get a hold of someone by phone....

EXCELLENT points.

What the heck is WRONG with me? I'm so sorry. Meridian IS close to Boise. Lol. I was confusing it with Malad, Idaho. Oy vey. My family lives in South Eastern Idaho and we always go through Malad on I-15. I read Meridian but thought Malad. [emoji851]

Ok question: I'm just going back to the beginning and re-reading the case. Who determined that "Lyle Stevik" was actually taken from the Joyce Carol Oates novel? Was it just speculation from WS members? Because I was trying to find a kindle version of the novel so I could read it to see if I could find any hidden info (lol) and the first thing I noticed was that the character's last name is actually spelled S-T-E-V-I-C-K and our JD spelled it S-T-E-V-I-K. I don't know if it's relevant or a typo on our JD's part.

I remember this, I wondered if the hotel had just spelt it wrongly.

I was thinking about something last night as I was falling asleep (no we're not obsessed!) and I felt like such a fool -- especially because I work for the police. Lol. We were wondering if LS could perhaps be a military deserter or have been in the military as evidenced by his movement around the country. Well, when the coroner took possession of the body for autopsy, I'm sure he took fingerprints, which were run to determine his identity. If LS had been in the military, his fingerprints would be on file. [emoji20]. Obviously they were not, or we would know his identity.

No, if military, prints may not have been digital as with a 97 NY John Doe who was most likely a marine. We had just hd 9/11, military prints were put on the back burner until a few years ago. They would need to be run now

Someone also said that on the Facebook page a few days ago. I didn't think of it either.

You should read the whole file (if you did not) with the original documents on reddit

Someone said to me earlier here that if he was sick that they would have known it, but here is something from a FB for him that was in his file, it said he may have been dying? Which indicates it was a possibility. Just still think maybe he was sick in some way not everything presents symptoms to my knowledge to indicate a person was ill. Although if this was pre-autopsy it could explain but are we 100% sure the coldcaseman knew he lost weight? My hubs has always been skinny and due to growth spurts he has stretch marks, so I am not sure I am 100% convinced of ccm's analysis.

Tissuesamples of Lyles organs were taken and examined microscopically. The Doctor found no diseases or medical conditions. You never know what went into his head because they made no X rays of his scull...but they did an autoption and had his brains examined....

I wonder if that is in fact his name and the person who was contacted was in fact his relative, but denied knowing him when they found out he had killed himself?

I have often thought that was the case as well. Only because there are other Stevicks and a Lyle Stevik who had been married a marriage cert, and so yeah I often wondered if it was him or a relative and they being religious or some cultures feel suicide is a grave sin type of thing so they did not want shame brought on them by coming forward. Typically suicide put family in a bad position spiritually speaking and ruined whole families reputations.

I don't think so

I had never heard of Joyce Carol Oates who wrote the novel with Lyle Stevick. I never studied literature in high school and college except what was required. Seems "Lyle" identified with this character. If someone took American Lit at the College level, how likely do you think this book would be on the reading list? I think more in terms of Steinbeck, Twain, and Salinger when I think American Lit. I see this author taught at Princeton. She was from upstate NY. Seems our Lyle Doe, used this name as a private joke maybe. Some commentary that if he had not made the internet, nobody would have ever linked his name to that novel.

I keep thinking what would I do if I checked in under a false name....wich name would I use.... a very common name....a name I saw, heard somewhere along the way, just somebody I met in a bus..a combination of an old friends name and a fantasy name..a name I like because it sounds good....or a character of a book...must be fresh read...because after a short while I forget the names...
