It’s all very convoluted, isn’t it? I am also having trouble following it, it’s usually easier in Court (I hope).

All roads seem to be leading back to 'Wyn the Grifter', who doesn't seem to be a defendant in this case. Is he on the witness list? I was thinking poor Gerald's murder was a 'for hire' job, but I'm as confused as everyone else at this point. Moo

Wyn certainly seems to have the biggest record of * incidents* .... have just been reading through the FB pages set up to * find* him, a few years ago.

I'm sure you're right that this happened because of Wyn. I wish the prosecution had a clear argument on motive as it is confusing. My first thought was the same as yours, "murder for hire".

I've been trying to think of other motives and it's slim pickings in terms of likelihood:

Trying to frame Wyn;

Using GC's murder as a threat to Wyn; and,

Wyn had promised GC some money back if he helped defraud Thwall or one of his mates, so they killed him.
I don't like the last one and not sure about the other 2. Any other ideas?

Loads of tweets to catch up on, here goes:

Here at Mold Crown Court for the resumed trial of Terence Whall who is accused of murdering Gerald Corrigan with a crossbow on Anglesey on Good Friday last year.

2h

Gavin Jones is co-accused of conspiracy to commit arson and perverting the course of justice.

2h

The hearing is now into its third week

2h

Whall said he ‘never kept it a secret’ that he had crossbows. He would show them to his clients and even let them fire them. He admitted his knowledge of them wasn’t that great and didn’t realise bolts and arrows were different things.

2h

He said he got interested in crossbows at the age of 38 because of YouTube videos. He was initially interested in archery and wanted to get bows and arrows for his kids to get them outdoors rather than on their computers.

2h

But he said the kids weren’t interested and he looked at crossbows because he has a shoulder injury that archery might irritate.

2h

When he bought a crossbow he had to email a picture of his passport as ID.

2h

When it arrived he said he set it up and tried it out straight away. He even bought a target.

2h

Whall bought 20 inch bolts to go with it. He said they don’t last long and he “went through loads of them”, all different types and colours. Some were bullet-like blades and some were hunting tips.

1h

Whall said he bought crossbow, bolts and tips all separately. He started out with hunting tips and then ‘started buying more fancy ones’. He said he fired it loads of times and set up rubber targets outside his house.

1h

But he said he ‘wanted rid of it’ because it was ‘too big, bulky and heavy’ for the kids. He said he was down one one knee firing it at a target one day when a man came to the house asking if a caravan on the site was for sale.

1h

Whall said the stranger turned his attention to the crossbow and asked to buy it. Whall said he sold it to him for £180 and put the money towards buying a second crossbow.

1h

Whall volunteered the information about the encounter with the stranger to police who didn’t know about the first crossbow when they arrested and questioned him.

1h

When he bought the second crossbow he said it ‘looked smarter.’ The kids didn’t use that one either because it was ‘too bloody big and heavy for them.’

1h

He bought a micro crossbow and accessories and arrows but said it didn’t turn up until after the Easter bank holiday. He said he didn’t realise the newer crossbow only took 16 inch bolts until just after he received it.

1h

He said he didn’t know the bolts and accessories weren’t interchangeable.

1h

Whall ordered the micro crossbow on April 11.

1h

Whall told police in the period over the bank holiday he didn’t own a crossbow. He said he bought all the firing equipment for in in anticipation of the arrival of the micro crossbow that didn’t arrive until after Mr Corrigan was shot.

1h

He said when it arrived he didn’t set it up because he’d heard about the shooting of Mr Corrigan. He said he was going to go to the police to tell them he’d recently ordered a crossbow.

1h

He said he left it in its box for ages and didn’t set it up in case police came round. But he figured they must’ve had information showing he hadn’t received it until after the incident. He said “I thought the reason you hadn’t come is because you knew I hadn’t used it.”
