Fraud isn't an illegal activity? Thank you Gov Hull for straightening me out.

Wow am not sure of the laws out there. In Wis when we get a Government Construction job there are strict rules & guidelines you must go by.

Our records have to be kept pristeen you never know when the Govmt may swoop in. Wages / names of jobs / names of employees / hrs worked/ check number employee was paid with. If it was a prevailing wage job in what county it was at. Each county has a different rate of pay. They want copies of all payroll checks front & back.

That is amazing if they never paid prevailing wages & the severe fines they will get. Since they're under investigation for other charges you can bet the authorities will be checking this out. The FEDS can & wil shut them down.
I certainly hope so!!

The Bank of Ephraim made high-risk business and consumer loans in the polygamist community on the Arizona border and lost more than three quarters of a million dollars last year, a Salt Lake newspaper reported.

The Sanpete County-based bank lost $778,000 last year after writing off slightly more than $1.3 million in bad loans, The Salt Lake Tribune said in a copyright story Wednesday. As required by regulators, it placed $2 million in a reserve account to cover losses.

Bank of Ephraim Chairman Carl Barton described its lending relationship with residents of the twin polygamist communities of Colorado City, Ariz., and Hildale, Utah, as "very unique."
"One of the messages we have been delivering for the past three or four years in Hildale and Colorado City is we have to make loans and we have to manage loans and enforce our loans in step with prudent business practices," Barton said.

In a letter to shareholders April 23, Barton said that because of the reserves the bank has been forced to hold, "we simply cannot pay dividends at this time or in the coming months. We continue to generate large amounts of income, but far too much of it must be placed into the bad loan reserve account due (to) the uncertainty in Hildale and Colorado City."

I wonder if the 16-year-girl escaped, and is now is some sort of "safe house" and is not giving her location because she very afraid of being returned to the FLDS. She may not be with any authorities, because they would be contacting the Texas authorities, but may have found some sort of safe refuge.

I sure hope so, because holy crap! it sure sounds like they kidnapped her!:eek::eek:

His stated offenses: wearing short-sleeved shirts, listening to CDs and having a girlfriend. Other boys say they were booted out for going to movies, watching television and staying out past curfew. Some say they were sometimes given as little as two hours' notice before being driven to St. George or nearby Hurricane, Utah, and left like unwanted pets along the road.

Many of the boys said children didn't attend school past the eighth grade and that they were taught that blacks were inferior — the offspring of Cain and doomed to slavery. Such views have earned the FLDS a hate-group designation by the Southern Poverty Law Center

I do too molly! It makes me mad when we have to pay up to $38. per hr per man. Then to hear someone is letting there minor kids on the job & swindling people out of their pay just irks me to no end. I've had phone calls needing to know what number hubby paid himself with. They are that strict.

Someone should turn them in! I don't know who a person would call...depending on the state or agency the work was performed in.

2 yrs ago we were on a job that was really messed up. 1 side was state / other side county / the middle of bridge was Federal. We got a letter stating each guy should get paid additional money $1400. it was there fault so we never got fined. It was the Feds who caught the mistake & it was 2 yrs later.

On the phone call from the 16 year old girl to both Texas and Az. I wonder if they have checked phone records? That should give them an address of where the call came from or a cell phone owner. (unless it is non registered of course).

Authorities have been talking about her too much for her to be in a safe house. And they appeared to be searching for her pretty frantically. Most likely reason for the two phone calls is that she was spirited away from the compound after someone overheard her call or noted the number on the cell phone. Remember it was a 'borrowed' cell phone. If I am correct, through media FLDS now knows she also called someone in Az. and I fear her life is in danger if it isn't already too late.

this is such a strange story. i have nothing against freedom
of religion, BUT when it seems to be a disguise for nasty
pedophiles, it makes me sick.

the women seem like robots talking about getting their children
back. they don't look into the camera, at least the ones i've
watched on the news.

i cannot fathom why, if this is a religious thing, they cannot
wait until these children are 18 and grown up. what kind of
a man sleeps with a 13 year old - pedophiles, that is who

sorry if i offend anyone

I agree with you. Something else that has bothered me is the fact. Many of the women & kids were hiding in buildings. (not homes) How did they know LE was coming? Why did they have enough time to hide?

Could the ladies that claim they were away from the compound of taken Sarah away & whisked her to Ariz or Utah? Just to convenient if you ask me.

Actually IF she is in CPS custody already and they know who she is, I think they will NOT release that information for her safety. Besides, that would be giving the leaders at the compound information that frankly they don't need to have until they're hauled into court. I seriously doubt that 16 year old is the only girl who wants out from any of their settlements.

Given the cautious way the Sheriff went about gathering information the last few years and the way he's handled it, I think I'll give them the benefit of the doubt until other info comes out to the contrary but I think they know who she is, where she is.

That's quite possible, if she was caught using the phone.
They were hiding because any time someone from the outside is present they were told to. When outsiders come into colorado city, people went indoors, closed signs were put on the doors etc.. They also have communications at their gate to the interior of the compound.

There have been lots of groups that use religion as an umbrella for their nefarious activities. This group isn't the first and won't be the last I'm sure.

That's my fear, that she was caught on the phone and now they have taken her away somewhere where she can't be accessed. I sure hope she's in LE custody and safe.

The Colorado City Unified School District was dominated by “first warders” still loyal to Jeffs. They objected to the teaching of evolution, dinosaurs, the NASA moon landings- and to the presence of “second ward” children.

Rejecting official church leadership made second ward children “heathens” and “apostates.” In 2000, Rulon Jeffs decreed that true FLDS followers must cut off all contact with unbelievers. His son, Warren Steed Jeffs, delivered the message in a sermon: “If you are choosing to socialize with apostates, to join with them in any way, you are choosing to get on the devil’s ground…Our Prophet will lose confidence in any person who continues to harbor apostates…” First ward followers promptly abandoned the public schools. First ward teachers resigned. First ward children were withdrawn.

By the start of the 2001 school year, the district’s enrollment fell from 950 students to 300.

The state of Arizona has a kind of “stop-loss” policy for public schools. Commonly known as the “rapid decline” program, it was designed to help struggling rural schools whne military redeployment or severe economic downturn caused a sharp drop in enrollment. The program continues to fund such schools at previous enrollment levels, allowing the district to gradually ease into a smaller budget.

The first-ward-dominated school board seized on this program, funnelling the extra money to Jeff’s followers. First ward teachers may have resigned, but the support staff roster was packed with loyal first ward janitors, secretaries and bus drivers- in fact, the student-to-staff ratio was 3 to1.

Student-to-staff ratios outside the district averaged 26 to 1.

First ward bus drivers were soon earning $30,000 per year while remaining second ward teachers started at $20,000. 60% of all incoming money was spent outside the classroom. Loyal Jeffs followers drove district-owned Ford Excursions and Chevy Suburbans. District administrators travelled and dined in restaurants using school funds.

I just read the list of evidence over at child brides. I must say it was very kind of them to put it out there for public info. But somehow I don't think it is complete. There was a report of sex toys being found- not on the list. There has been a report of a bed being found in the temple- no mention of the bed linens on the list and you know they would have taken them. There has been a report of a weapons cache being found- no mention on the list. I believe that list has been sanitized.

I must say that for such an isolated community there were an awful lot of computers found. Anyone else think they will find child 🤬🤬🤬🤬 on at least some of them? I think they will.

ETA: Considering that some FLDS members reside in other areas, considering that some FLDS members of the compound were away at the time of the raid, I think it is safe to say they did not get all the computers. Having seen the efforts of the FLDS to use the media to stir things up by denying, claiming their 'rights' have been violated, and try to stir up emotion it makes me wonder if any of the members have been assigned to search out where they are discussing the raid on the internet and add additional rumors and pleadings to the fire.

El Dorado and Lockney Texas are not far from Lubbock and when the story first broke I looked up and saw all these women and kids being herded onto buses.
This Dale Barlow guy who is accused of raping and impregnating the 16 year old girl who called CPS claims he hasn't been to Texas since 1977. Texas hasn't issued an arrest warrant yet, I assume because it is a case of he said she said and Barlow has probation records showing he shows up to his probation officer. A call to the general public-- has anyone seen this guy in Texas? He wears glasses so I checked our store records to see if he had purchased glasses from us-no luck. Has anyone seen him buying gas, a bus ticket anything. IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE SEEN HIM OUTSIDE OF ARIZONIA call the Texas State police or CPS. He can't get here by teleportation so someone has to have seen him in Texas besides FLDS members. The police may have to wait till the girl gives birth and they can DNA test the baby. It still wouldn't prove she was impregnated in Texas. I can't believe Arizonia gave him probation to begin with.
This whole mess is so sad for these kids and the women who have been brainwashed into thinking the behavior of their leaders and husbands is OK and sanctioned by God.

Western Precision changed its name after Warren Jeffs was convicted. (I posted the new name earlier; give me a minute to find it.) Changing the name or location did not stop the millions flowing in from the Pentagon. There sure is some crooked business going on here, and I aim to get to the bottom of it.

Here is molly's original report. Thank you, molly, for all of your valuable links.

Western Precision changed its name to NewEra Manufacturing.

Polygamist sect gets millions from U.S. government in loan, contracts
Saturday, April 12, 2008; Posted: 08:04 PM
Apr 12, 2008 (McClatchy Newspapers - McClatchy-Tribune News Service via COMTEX) -- -- American taxpayers have unwittingly helped finance a polygamist sect that is now the focus of a massive child abuse investigation in West Texas, with a business tied to the group receiving a nearly $1 million loan from the federal government and $1.2 million in military contracts.

The ability of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or FLDS, to operate and grow is largely dependent on huge contributions from its members and revenue from the businesses they control, according to a former accountant for the church, and government officials in Utah and Arizona, where the sect is primarily based.
One of those businesses, NewEra Manufacturing in Las Vegas, has been awarded more than $1.2 million in federal government contracts, with most of the money coming in recent years from the Defense Department for wheel and brake components for military aircraft.
A large portion of the awards were preferential no-bid or "sole source" contracts because of the company's classification as a small business, according to online databases that track federal government appropriations.
NewEra, previously known as Western Precision Inc. and located in Hildale, Utah, also received a $900,000 loan in 2005 from the federal Small Business Administration, the data show.
The president and chief executive of the company is John. C. Wayman, identified as an FLDS leader and a close associate to Warren Jeffs, the sect's "prophet," who was convicted last year as an accomplice to rape for arranging the marriage of a 14-year-old girl to her 19-year-old cousin.
When Jeffs, who was one of the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives, was arrested in the summer of 2006, he was driving Wayman's late-model red Cadillac Escalade, government officials say.

I sure hope so, because holy crap! it sure sounds like they kidnapped her!:eek::eek:

LinasK.............it's very concerning to think they may have kidnapped her!

Reading through the evidence list (88 pages worth) LE collected a tremendous amount of birth records, marriage records, a lot of photographs, school records, family pedigree charts (genealogy documents) and a lot of identifying material. I noted 85 CDs of records in addition to other hard-copy records. In the documents seized, there's material pertaining to a Sara/Sarah Jessop. There may be several by this name.

So the claim by the FLDS women who were interviewed at the YFZ ranch that Sarah Jessop doesn't exist - that there was no one there by that name and calling it a hoax, is a lie. She does exist.
