Maybe this has already been answered, but LE can't just take the word of the victim in cases like this as to who the father is. What if there are several possibilities? Do they share their teen girls w/other men in this group?

I certainly did not mean to imply these people were stupid or couldn't talk. If LE has a case, DNA testing is going to have be a part of it if there's a child involved (to prove who the father is). That's all.

I hope that explains where I was coming from.

It does :blowkiss: and you didnt come across that way to me at least.

All day yesterday we were being told a hearing was scheduled for today. That made sense as it was a weekend. Today we are told that there is not a hearing scheduled for today and there isnt even one scheduled. So who "fed" that information to the reporters? Or did the reporters just make it up? Somehow I doubt the latter.

To me taking the women and kids out is no big deal. If they went into a house that was being used as a meth lab then they would remove them from there for their own protection. Seems to me that is what they are doing here as well, getting them out of a 'harmful' environment. And yes I think our gov't has the right to make that decision to a certain extent, if not then we could argue that no gov't agency should ever be allowed to go into a home where the children were being abused and remove them. Marrying your kids off at 13 or 14 or even 16 to 50 year old men is abuse and it does not matter if you were brought up in the environment and told it was the right thing or not, it is abuse. And people can wrap it in 'religion', but it's just a group of weak men that could not keep a women anyother way than brainwashing them. :twocents:

Did anyone check out the compound? It must have cost millions to build. Where is the money coming from?

It used to be in TX that a hearing had to be held in 24 hours when a child was removed from the home. Now, it is left up to the judge. I think they have up to 14 days to hold the emergency hearing. http://www.gosanangelo.com/news/2008/apr/07/breaking-news-no-hearings-today-for-sequestered/

I thought it had to be earlier than 14 days. The laws have changed I see.

I'm not saying LE is wrong for taking the kids. Hopefully we'll hear more details soon. But for LE to say they gave them a choice. What choice? We are taking the kids with or without you? IMO, the mothers made the only choice a mother could make no matter what the circumstances were. It would be like someone saying give me your money or I'll shoot. Well you'd give them your money.

No youre right. At least you are if the newspaper has it right

It says 14 days. So even if I live next door to someone that is suspected of child abuse, that means that LE can show up unexpectedly and take me and my young non abused child and detain me up to two weeks while they sort out who is in danger and who is not.

Great! :bang:

The compound was raided and the women and children were taken and are being detained and interviewed at a military post. That just sounds so surreal even as I type it....

Just a point of clarification, Ft Concho is an inactive, historical military post, now turned museum. It is run by the city of San Angelo and not the military. It has no military presence at all. It is simply the best place they could find at the moment to house all of them together (still not an ideal option). There is a CPS office located right nearby, shower facilities, electricity, enough room to feed and house everyone together, and to keep them "somewhat" separate from the rest of the community.

Of course you are right. Unfortunately this happens among other sects too, and it needs to stop! Here is an interesting link about the Amish and if you take the time to read through the pages, you will find that sexual abuse of children, as well as physicial abuse of children happens and is ignored by law enforcement, because it is thought that the Amish will punish their own. However Amish punishment is usually a period of shunning, which does nothing to prevent further abuse.

Just catching up on this thread. Pepper, I have followed David Yoder's story for a couple years. Truly is disgusting.

My heart breaks for the kids brought up to think this stuff is okay. :(

I never meant to imply that the MPs were holding bayonets on them or anything....but only that this is a govenment approved situation. Not just a local one or a state one. This whole operation has government approval was my one and only point.

Former polygamist wife just on Fox making the point that it is about time we (Texas) did something to protect our own citizens from abuse. She said that all outsiders are viewed as instruments of Satan, and that it will take a very long time and much resources to free these people from their brainwashing. She was pointing out that we've spent 4,000 American lives freeing Iraq, and it's about time we took care of our own.

Texas state troopers have made an arrest in their search of a rural compound built by polygamist leader Warren Jeffs.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Tom Vinger says the person arrested Monday was not Dale Barlow, the man who a 16-year-old girl said had married her. Vinger said he had no other details. (more at link)

I live in Texas, but I had no idea this place even existed. I take it it is near San Antonio? Thank heavens it didn't end up like the Branch Davidian situation.

Without a complaining witness, the 16 year old girl....anything found during the search per the search warrant will be tossed ...right?

This is the woman I saw on Fox. Her name is Laurie Allen.

State police made an arrest as they searched a sprawling rural compound built by polygamist leader Warren Jeffs in their investigation into a possible underage marriage, an official said Monday.

The person was charged with interfering with the duties of a public servant for actions made during the search of the religious compound, Department of Public Safety spokesman Tom Vinger said. (more at link)
