I think it says something about both of them.
He believes he has to pay for friends -- perhaps for control or perhaps because he believes no one would hang out with him otherwise.
And the "friends" are happy to benefit from this type of relationship. Again, this doesn't mean that some of the friends didn't like being in DM's company.
I wonder who DM was buying the Distillery Condo for? JMO
Well since Smich is charged with two of the three murders, is he being framed too?

Do you know if the picture was taken after the investigation of the house? Or could it have been taken before or during the investigation. Just saying and MOO.
When the Star visited the home, which backs onto a golf course, in May following a police investigation, it was a mess, with clothing, documents and cans of soup strewn throughout. The only thing moving was a black cat.
All guns must be stored properly with a lock or in a locked room. Was this gun just left out? Was the trigger locked? Was it made to appear that this was the gun used in WM's apparent suicide?
The firearm must be either trigger locked, or have the bolt removed, or must be stored in a secure locked container, receptacle or room.

I find the need to vilify anyone who talks to reporters strange.
The truth is people talk for all sorts of reasons.
And despite the pearl clutching, I suspect most participants in sites like these wouldn't be too happy if those who knew the accused never spoke up.
IMO a true friend would want to know the truth, and would freely give info to get info.
Paying for everything is one way of being in control, setting the agenda, being the center, the leader. Perhaps he's a control freak that is easier to deal with if he pays for everything. Ok boss!
Of course they would want to know the truth. And they would give their info to LE if it was of any use. And they would follow the facts and their personal knowledge and wait for the truth to come out. A "true" friend, however, would not run to a reporter/blogger with info about their friend's bills in the hopes of getting any information about the truth that they don't yet know. They're not looking for information there, they're just giving it.
Or perhaps, it's simply that the others didn't have the resources to pay for it.
Sure they do. But most "close friends" wouldn't talk to reporters or otherwise about personal details. For example, saying he bought things for his friend is one thing. Saying he saw the bills and how much was spent is another.
Pearl clutching? Please. Of course people are interested in what those who knew him say. But it would seem he/she didn't find any reporters in any of the popular MSM that were interested enough in this type of story to talk to him/her or print those sorts of details.
How do you know what he believes? Maybe he just liked doing things for his friends because he could.
A true friend would sic the cops on you? Keep in mind, if you provide info to LE, they don't oblige with any info in return, and the info you provide could have HUGE implications legally that you didn't intend.
Yet, how is the truth going to come out if everyone keeps their lips sealed? Thus the important role of the media.
Fine, let them hang out with all the other regular people and have not. What is so special about these people that they are entitled to all the things DM bought them?
You're assuming the friends know what happened. If they don't know what happened, they aren't siccing the cops on you. If they do know what happened, they don't need to go to a reporter to find out what did.
I take it then that you don't feel a true friend should talk to LE, but an accused should. However, the true friend should talk to MSM even though he shouldn't to LE?
I think you give far to much credit to media. Their job is to report the facts, not solve the crime. Hence why LE rarely talk to media once an arrest is made.
The truth is expected to come out at trial.
