Websleuths is changing our colors

I cannot figure out how to use dark mode.

Would @Curious Me and @friendlysleuther do me a favor and test something for me?

Could you switch your themes to "Websleuths_2025_Test" temporarily? If you don't see that color-scheme, refresh your page.

After that, can you look at any of your old posts with invisible text in it? I may have a sneaky fix to make it so your old posts will never be invisible.
You did it ! 👏👏🥳🎉

YOU DID IT, @fraize. Thank You so very much. A whole bunch of gold stars for you.

Sorry I couldn't respond sooner. I had to go do my annual lab blood work. Back now eating some tacos.

How I know you did something to fix all my old posts is I went to ones I knew were unreadable the other day, and now in Dark Mode they are readable. 😊 So happy. Thank You again. You're awesome!

I'll roll this feature out to the base Websleuths_2025 theme. Thanks for helping me test!
It still seems to be a problem some places - I just went to this Doe's thread, and the first post is mostly black on black.

Did they just have a lot of spaces ? I don’t know what should be there I suppose but I can’t find the text that’s missing

Yes, but there is still a fair amount of text there. I can barely see it, like... BARELY. It's a darker black than the background. But I could see there was (unreadable) text there when I looked yesterday. Then I highlighted it with my cursor which turned it white so I could read it. So... def not all a bunch of blank space.

For whatever reason, it appears the OP had a LOT of blank space before writing any content in the first 2 sections. Here's an example of the top section showing blank space, and highlighted text so I could read it.

We are giving Websleuths a bit of a makeover. Soon, the orange and black will be replaced with shades of blue.
To check out the new color scheme, scroll to the very bottom of the page. On the lower left side, you will see "Black-Orange." Click on that and then choose Websleuths 2025.
The colors on the forum will change to blue. You can choose between light and dark by clicking on the icon next to Websleuths 2025
You will love these new colors.
More great things to come.
💯👏👏👏👏👏

Interesting. I think that because they used bullets, my CSS targeting fails to apply the color. I think I can fix this, though.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

Most of my settings are dark mode for different platforms. I had to do that for cataracts, I was basically blind at the time. I am sad to say this one here on dark mode does not work for my eyes. Not sure if the font changed but it is very hard for me to read. I hope there will be other options?
I also prefer dark mode but I am finding the high contrast with this dark mode theme a bit harder to read. Dark gray with white text (kind of like Discord's default color scheme) is sometimes easier to read than black with white text, maybe that's the issue for you, too?

Either way, I am thrilled to have a dark mode!

If this has already been brought up and addressed I apologize; I skimmed through the thread and may have missed it.

I'm in Dark Mode and starting to get into it more. Can I bring something else to your attention? I need to bring this glitch up to the Expert @fraize.

I like to abbreviate my friend's name to "Pages" and turn it blue like a full profile name. Now let's try a blue Pages. Had to do it twice. Okay, let's do it again. This is for my friend Pages. Had to do it twice again. PAGES, Pages, oh calling out to Pages. Always had to highlight and color chart it twice to get it to show color.

They had color, but then... when I posted it only one name 😮 showed color. WTH? Then I went back in again and got the color to stick on all the named Pages; however, if I bolded with color it didn't work right away. Posted again and two of the names went back to white text! What?!! It reverts. The bolded worked eventually. Am I doing something wrong for Dark Mode, or is it a glitch?

Sadly, the Black-Orange theme will eventually have to go away. The problem with maintaining the Black-Orange theme alongside the Websleuths_2025 theme is that it's written with a lot of legacy code which is difficult to maintain. I will be looking into making variations of the Websleuths_2025 theme that will be easier on the eyes for those with difficulties, but Black-Orange's days are numbered.

I will commit, however, to make a higher-contrast theme before shutting Black-Orange down.

Lastly, regarding the laughing-emoji, I'm dropping the hammer on this one. While I really do appreciate your enthusiasm on the matter, we are not planning to bring back the Laughing Emoji.

Thank you for your efforts. Since the original color scheme is ending, would you please offer an option in which the TEXT ITSELF would be dark black (not some light variation like blue of some shade or gray or almost-black or some such, and and not thin faint lines) on a white background? Simple black on white. Easy to read. Easy on the eyes at the same time.

I have played with them to try to see what works, but these two new options that seem to be in the works are really hard on the eyes of a senior, and way more of a challenge to read than my eyes can take. From what I am reading in this thread, I may not be the only one, and I wouldn't think the intent is to drive people away from the site.
