Websleuths is changing our colors

MO, that font & ink for Watched threads is easy to read, but I never liked the new magnifying glass logo.

This is just my own sincere opinion. I liked the old WS logo better with the W showing clear and the way the magnifying glass actually looks like it's working to make the W bigger. Don't understand those brackets around the logo in the blue. Opinions differ, and that's just mine, but all in all our new themes are coming along. Thanks to fraize.

I can't tell which ones are the unread threads. I'm serious. They look almost the same. Is it just me and my eyes late at night? Maybe I read them all? Which ones are unread?

Okay, it is easier to tell which are unread in the Light theme, but not as automatic as it used to be. I don't know if it'd be too hard to add an alert dot to the unread ones, or different colors for ones already read.

Sorry, but IMO, much easier to determine the unread ones in the old Orange-Black theme because they were different colors.

When I'm in Orange-Black, I did notice I had less width space. (Those boxes ended up on separate lines, not side by side.) The added width in the desktop mode in the Accessible Theme gives me more width space, but I wonder how it translates to a viewer using a phone. (It gets so technical.) Well, signing off now. 👋

Is the reason I haven't been asked to join the inner circle because I have an ad b-locker on? It's okay, being in the in-crowd is enough for me. 🤣
It's possible. You would fall under the criteria of being shown the popup. I've looked in our analytics-logs and I don't see any record at all of you, so it's very likely you've got your shields-up well enough that it blocks the pop-up.

Reach out to me privately via DM if you'd like, and I'll manually add you to the list!

Is the new pop up going to be a permanent thing?
The popup shows if you aren't logged in, or are logged-in and opted-out of the newsletter and have never seen the popup before.

When you dismiss the popup, it will shrink down to a small gray "pill" at the bottom of your screen. There's an X you can tap, and that should dismiss it forever.

But please let me know if it keeps coming up!

The only way to know if you've never seen the popup is if we can track that you've seen the popup via cookies. If your browser settings blocks that cookie, the popup won't know you've already seen it.

I was looking at the server logs from the last 24 hours, and don't see any activity associated with your username, which usually tells me your browser is blocking our analytics tracking.

If you can, let me know (via DM if you'd prefer) what operating-system and browser you're using, and if you're using any ad-blockers, plugins, or privacy-settings that could be causing this. I would prefer not to keep showing you the popup if you've already dismissed it!
I keep dismissing the pop-up and it just keeps coming back every time I come back to the site.
Using Windows, Chrome with a variety of ad/pop-up blockers.

Yup. Looks like your ad-blockers are set to fully-lock down your browser. I'm getting zero telemetry from you, so I have no way to know if you've seen the popup or not. I'm not sure how I can stop showing the invitation to users with that level of blocking applied.

I'm looking into this!

I X out every time but when I return, it’s there again. Pops up, I X out, it minimizes, then I X out at the bottom left, but it pops up when I return.

When you visit the site, do you have to log in every time, or are you already logged in when you visit?

I did end up signing up for the newsletter. I got around the issue where the screen changed whenever I tried to enter a numeral, by putting my email address into my "clipboard" from which I could simply paste it into the popup rather than typing it out.

But I do still wonder whether that was just an Auntie issue or whether it's a WS issue.

The what now? I've never seen that happen before!

I described it above, in my first post in this thread.

I tried (repeatedly) to enter my email address into the popup field. The first several digits are letters, no problem. Then I needed to enter a numeral and each time I tried, the screen changed or refreshed or something. I repeated it several times to make sure I wasn't just having bumbling fingers.

All that said, if it doesn't happen for anyone else then it's probably a me-ipad-static-electricity-or-something problem. Just wanted you to be aware in case anything similar had been reported.

Stupid question coming up! I've had something similar like that happen when I think my NumLock is on, but it's not. Then typing on the number pad does things (Home, up/down/left/right arrows, End, PgUp and PgDown) as opposed to entering a number. Could that have been the case with you?

Question about searches... I could have SWORN I could search for something using double quotes, like "emergency room", and then it would give me results just for "emergency room" inside posts, not emergency (with no 'room'), or room (with no 'emergency'). It's not working as I think it should and as I said, I could have sworn I had the ability to do that on this site. Did something change? And can get get changed back if so? lol

Thank you!

This happened to me today, too. Numlock was fine. I just had to keep retyping the numerical part of my email address and it finally took.

Very interesting. Thanks for chiming in as I can cross off NumLock off as possibilities. Odd that it finally took after many tries. I'd be able to test it but I'm already signed up.
