And on my ipad, with only a digital keyboard, there is no numlock per se, that I'm aware of. There is an ABC/123 toggle button.Stupid question coming up! I've had something similar like that happen when I think my NumLock is on, but it's not. Then typing on the number pad does things (Home, up/down/left/right arrows, End, PgUp and PgDown) as opposed to entering a number. Could that have been the case with you?
After I had typed my letters, I would have hit that 123 button to bring up the numbers. If I didn't hit it, letters would appear rather than numbers.
But that's not what I was experiencing.
I would type the letters into the email field, but as soon as I typed a numeral, the whole screen would change. The popup would go away, not simply show some character other than what I was intending to type. As if I had accidentally hit a page-refresh or something.
It is entirely possible that I simply hit the wrong thing -- I often overreach the digital keyboard entirely and accidentally touch whatever is behind the keyboard -- on WS that would most often align with one of the "similar threads" at the bottom half of the screen.

The only real puzzlement is that I repeated my actions 5 or 6 times, assuming it was just fumbling fingers, and it continued happening each time, to the point where I finally put my full email address into the clipboard so I could just paste it rather than type it out. Of course I can no longer re-create the problem since, having successfully signed up, the popup no longer appears for me.
