Websleuths is changing our colors

Stupid question coming up! I've had something similar like that happen when I think my NumLock is on, but it's not. Then typing on the number pad does things (Home, up/down/left/right arrows, End, PgUp and PgDown) as opposed to entering a number. Could that have been the case with you?
And on my ipad, with only a digital keyboard, there is no numlock per se, that I'm aware of. There is an ABC/123 toggle button.

After I had typed my letters, I would have hit that 123 button to bring up the numbers. If I didn't hit it, letters would appear rather than numbers.

But that's not what I was experiencing.

I would type the letters into the email field, but as soon as I typed a numeral, the whole screen would change. The popup would go away, not simply show some character other than what I was intending to type. As if I had accidentally hit a page-refresh or something.

It is entirely possible that I simply hit the wrong thing -- I often overreach the digital keyboard entirely and accidentally touch whatever is behind the keyboard -- on WS that would most often align with one of the "similar threads" at the bottom half of the screen.

The only real puzzlement is that I repeated my actions 5 or 6 times, assuming it was just fumbling fingers, and it continued happening each time, to the point where I finally put my full email address into the clipboard so I could just paste it rather than type it out. Of course I can no longer re-create the problem since, having successfully signed up, the popup no longer appears for me.

Good timing. I got something asking me to sign a petition. I found the fields very interesting! Basically, you can have letters and NUMBERS in your first and last name (like... who has that??) but NOT in your email address (tons of us have that!). It's like it's backwards. Very strange.

I have a nit that I wonder if it's fixable or not. Note that the example I post below is JUST an example. I'm not picking on this person. lol There's was the first post I saw this morning that reminded me of this nit of mine.

Below is a 1 line post. Below that is a rather long signature (6 lines). There's been times in the past where I end up reading into the signature thinking it's part of the post. (Not this one cuz I've gotten very used to it. :))

My question is... is it possible to make that faint very narrow line separating their post from their signature larger/thicker/more standout-ish? I've considered turning off the ability to see them in my Profile, but sometimes I DO what to see them when I run across a new one with interesting info in them.

Thank you!

I find it so hard to imagine that the folks misusing a laugh emoji outnumber those of us who simply want to respond to someone making a joke or posting a funny meme.

Is there a way to allow specific emojis in the non-case threads (the jury room or game threads etc) while still prohibiting them in case threads?

Alternatively, what if we added a laughing emoji that looks like this: 🤭 or 😋 that don't (to me at least) seem like they would be used to laugh AT someone.

It just feels so rude to me to not be able to "HA HA" as a response to someone saying something funny. ☹️

Here is another nit I'm thinking should be easy to remedy, @fraize. Adding the page count to the top of search results. I'm thinking it's possible because it's at both the top and bottom of Watched Threads, What's New, etc. Like this:

1743529054149.webp

The reason it matters to me is sometimes I'll get the max # of page hits (25 pages) for a search. What I then do is search for a different word on that search results page. For example, I just did a search for just the word 'search' because DM is too small for the search. I wanted to find where I've said 'DM search'. Anyway, so once I get the 25 pages of results with the word search, I then do a Ctrl-F (Find) on page 1 for 'DM'. Some pages have zero hits for what I'm Ctrl-Fing, like this:

1743529338777.webp

What that does is force me to scroll to the bottom of all the "Finds" that have 0/0 on that page. It would be much easier on me if I didn't have to scroll to the bottom, just to be able to click on the next page number. Hence me asking if you can add the page count to the top in addition to the bottom.

And for anyone that doesn't know what the '...' results does (I recently found out not everyone does)... clicking on it and you can type whatever page you want. VERY HELPFUL if you you want to hurry to a particular page, and don't want to have to hit Next a bazillion times. I have one DM that has ~1,350 pages. Not one I want to hit Next, Next, Next in if YKWIM. lol

Thanks, fraize

It doesn't really affect functionality, but there's still an orange halo around the reactions at the bottom of a post on Websleuths 2025. If you're looking for uniformity, the halo should probably be teal. It'd make the images show up better; the yellow emoticons always got a bit lost in the orange halo, especially the thumbs up, which is the default reaction.

Oh my glob I can't believe I missed that. Thank you so much -- that's been bugging me for a while and I never figured it was an errant css class that was causing it!
This is now fixed.

I'd also request this in particular for the mobile version

One reason is, when you click to the thread from watched, you go by default to page 1 if you have no new posts - so then you have to scroll all the way to the bottom to get to the link to go back to the end of the thread and resume reading/posting!

Thanks for considering.

You're right - this was a relatively easy one. It's now implemented in both Search and Watched Threads. Let me know if you encounter any shenanigans.

Not at all! - just that my quick reply didn't need a lot of context behind it.

I think back to the days when the most passive-aggressive thing you could do at work was reply back to a long email with
so in situations where the context is really only important to only one person, I try to keep it pretty light. Though as with many forums, there is usually a culture of commentary that can only be learned by doing, so if my [sniiiiiiip!] was inappropriately implying your post was too long, I do apologize. That's not what I meant, and I want to do better by everybody!

Please don't think I was being serious about that. I ended my comment with a chuckle. :)

I, for one, am REALLY appreciative of all you've done for us. It's so nice to not only be able to give input, but to see changes implemented in real time! I can think of a lot of businesses that could benefit from this model! LOL

Yeah, this is a weird one! It must be a bug with Mailchimp's embedded form. Some numbers trigger very specific behavior, even. So weird.

Anyhoozle, I've turned off the popup for everyone (hey, stop cheering so loud, that's hurtful! 😂), but I will be putting a link on the menu-bar to encourage sign-ups.

What happened to the What's New tab? It used to take you to a long list of New Posts with 1 click on What's new. Now it takes 2 clicks. 1) Click on What's new, then click on New posts.

1744322972789.webp

I was going to suggest simply doing a down arrow to get to that lower level set of options, and give us back the What's new list that works with just 1 click, but it already has a down arrow next to it! lol

1744323067949.webp

Seriously though... I'm a click saver. lol Can we go back to getting to that list (What's new) with just 1 click?

Thank you.
