weekend discussion: discuss the trial here #139

I'm projecting myself, I know it. A woman I knew years ago (she was my intern at one of my first jobs out of college) went to England on an exchange. I had plans to go to England in the fall. Before she left, she said, "Let's meet up when you come to the UK and hang out."

I said, "Yes, let's e-mail and keep in touch."

She was one of those ultra happy people always looking for the silver lining. I asked her one morning if she drank! :floorlaugh: Seriously, she was that chirpy.

She was super friendly but I never really thought she really wanted to meet up. We all say these things to each other when we part ways after college, from one job to another, from one gym to another. We exchanged a few e-mails over that summer and that was it. I wasn't surprised or disappointed because I thought we were exchanging social niceties.

In early October (my trip was mid October), she sent an e-mail asking where I'd be staying. A few days later, she e-mailed train schedules and maps from my hotel . She was in York and I was in London so it was quite the train trip. Beautiful though.

When the train pulled into the station, I didn't recognize her. She'd had a hair cut and was wearing a stylish scarf around her hair and she was just glowing. We talked about her boyfriend back home and a new guy she'd met in York. She was fascinated with him and conflicted by her feelings for her bf back home. She said she'd date this new guy and see how she felt over the winter break when she returned home.

We didn't keep in touch for a while after I left York but she'd sent me away with recommended books and asked me to pass them on after I read them. She sent a couple of letters and one of the letters was how she was engaged. When she got back to Holy Cross, she could not stop thinking about him.

Mutual friends said that she moved to England and shortly afterwards, she and her husband and new baby moved back here.

I never saw her again. Her husband shot her in the head and their daughter Lilian whilst they slept. And during the trial he claimed she was depressed and that she killed herself and the baby. Was he out of his MF mind? OMG.

He was found guilty and rots in prison. You've probably heard about the case. My friend was Rachel Souza. I refuse to ever refer to her by her married name, which was Entwhistle.

I know I'm too caught up in this case but there is just something obscene and truly pornographic to take someone's life and decide to take the only thing the dead have: their dignity and honor.

So I'm ambivalent about the DP but I know I want her to be convicted. I want her to know we all judge her and find her wanting. I want her in a little cell with no one to admire her and take photos and film her every move and report on her every blink.

She already thinks she's won because she took what no other woman will ever have. But she's still a flaming narcissist who needs constant validation and I want her in a plain little cell with only herself for company for ever and ever and ever.

I want her in a panic now that the sand is running out of the hourglass and I want her to sweat. And I want the Alexander family to make their impact statements and then I want the jury to verbally body slam her with their sentence, whatever that may be.

So, I'll keep posting smarty arse comments about the trial but I'm never forgetting what it's about. And it isn't a spectator sport for me. I'm a heat seeking missile where this chick is concerned and I have no shame about it. :)

OMG, another late night vent. I swear I don't drink or drug. lol

Beautifully written. It isn't a spectator sport for me either. Hugs to you.

Catching up on today's testimony thanks to Croakerqueen and I need to vent.

Why, oh why does JW ask to approach so much? Is this normal? It drives me batty!

She seems so whiny.... especially when she doesn't get her way. And why isn't KN saying anything anymore? Is he just collecting a paycheck at this point?

And JA today seemed half dead.... She looked hideous. I think the reality that the juror isn't buying her story is really starting to sink in.

I am just starting to watch the video of this morning. You might have already discussed it, if so I am sorry I have not been able to read everything yet.

After the Judge reads the first question and then it is answered you have to watch the Judge's face, she kinda rolls her eyes at the answer. I watched it about 10 times. If you did not notice it you must go back and see it. After first question asked and answered.

She sure does!

WOW! And, of course, it would be a day I missed!

It's actually worth watching on YouTube ... It was jaw dropping. The jurors love Juan .... DispiseJodi dont believe a word she saidand didn't believe the expert could find her hinney in the dark with a flashlight. IMO

Most...BUT not all so...that amount still sucks imo

And for the ones that don't, others have stated Arizona has a fund and the jurors can apply and they can get paid up to $300 a day to replace lost wages.

Boodles posted this in last thread. too funny ! i am pasting ...

JM: Ma'am, it is 6:00, isn't it?

ALV: I can't answer that question. There are two hands on the clock, and they move. They are moving now, even though it's imperceptible. So I cannot say yes, it's not a yes or no answer.

JM: ma'am, the big hand is on the 12 and the shorter one is on the 6, correct? Yes or no.

ALV: It depends what you mean, Mr Martinez, by "the big hand" and "the shorter one." And what do you mean by "on"? Are you trying to trick me? I just can't answer the question. I don't know what you are asking. A clock has moving parts and numbers. There are different types of clocks, digital and analog. And there are time zones...

JM: I didn't ask you whether a clock has moving parts. Did I ask you that? Did I ask you about time zones? Ma'am, you do know how to tell time, don't you?

ALV: Yes, Mr Martinez, I can tell time, but I am here to talk about domestic violence, Mr Martinez, so when you ask me if its 6:00, I am confused about where you're going.

JM: Judge, non-responsive. Please instruct the witness...

JW pops to her feet: Judge, may we approach?

JSS: You may.

Stomp stomp strut strut ==>sidebar ==> 5 minutes of white noise

Stomp stomp strut strut back to chairs.

JSS: Ladies and gentlemen, we are taking a recess for 10 minutes.

30 minutes pass

JM: ma'am, is the time now 6:40? Yes or no.

ALV: the big hand is on the 40 and the little hand is between the 6 and the 7, closer to the 7, so it's 6:40.

OOPS or the really nice one - Jodi said the knife was on the nightstand, which means she admits to her she went into the bathroom with it, prepared to use it.

Or another really nice one, when she wrote in her notes about "gas cans for the long trip to Mesa? - thought it was unplanned? "
Said she meant Utah, that she misspoke, ALV mistake, wrote the wrong thing in her notes - cause Mesa and Utah are so similar? Because Jodi's trip to Utah was unplanned?
How many mis-spokes does ALV expect anyone to believe?, at $250/hour for the note taking, that's pretty bad accuracy.

And for the ones that don't, others have stated Arizona has a fund and the jurors can apply and they can get paid up to $300 a day to replace lost wages.

But isn't that AFTER the trial is over?

Watching that again, I think Judge Stephens, realizing they're still "live", cuts off ALV to protect her privacy. The judge tells her that they'll talk on Monday and see where ALV's whatever issues stand and do further planning as needed then.

There was an objection. You can see the court reporter turn her head and hear a man's voice speaking. Then the Judge says "yes" acknowledging that they shouldn't be discussing her medical appts. This leads me to believe they are related to the hearing next week. Since the jury isn't there, colloquy about scheduling issues wouldn't normally be subject to objection -- including (maybe especially) if it were due to medical issues. jmo

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H9, retails now for around $1500 but in 2008, maybe $2k? Just guessing about the old price.

I saw it on the news and remember looking it up on Amazon and it was bookmarked ... never know when any trial tidbit will be useful. lol

Thank you!

:)

I am not knocking ( or supporting ) ALV -- but she is a grown women that has to understand her actions too. I am sure she talks to "her" clients about their actions/behavior too. After all she said "Behavior is important - Behavior is EVERYTHING" (Said on stand, under Oath April 3/2013).

She choose to defend JA as an Adult decision as a person and as a witness. As the saying goes "Now you have to lay in your bed"

I am not knocking her book (It can happen to Anyone) -- but it CAN happen to anyone. Like the saying "What goes around, comes around".

She choose to do this in her Adult/Professional/Educated Career.....and now must deal with HER OWN actions. You dealt it, you smell it.

JA made the wrong decision to kill TA, and ALV choose to speak for JA. So both bad decisions. JA is accountable for her actions, and so should ALV.

So Yes ALV -- IT CAN happen to Anyone

My opinion here...not knocking her at all, as she is adult and choose to do this herself. She is a Grown MATURE women

Also if ALV did mouth the word "jerk" today on the stand...Did she not also say that many actions are Not verbal. IMHO, mouthing a word like that is abusive and very disrespectful to the Court.

I hope the jurors saw that too.

Yes, for a short court day it was full of good information and weird moments.

Totally totally OT, but can someone find the picture of the big dog (pit bull?) that is licking the tiny rabbit on the face? Please please :please:

I believe Ms. Wilmott's rattled condition most likely began yesterday while reviewing the juror questions prior to posting them to ALV. Trying to be unbiased, those questions were not in any way positive toward the defense of Ms. Arias that I could hear. I believe the defense team viewed ALV as the best hope for keeping Ms. Arias off death row. I would agree with that point but I also believe Ms. ALV did not succeed.

Ms. ALVs responses were as effective as Jodi's, just repeat the same bs and not worry about addressing the question. Seems painfully obvious to me if the question shows doubt that one should realize readily that the message was not well received the first time. Even watching Jodi yesterday and today, it seems to be sinking in that the jury is not buying into this story. The fact that Ms. ALV only had a face to face interview opportunity with a confessed liar, was far too much to overcome. It is obvious her assessment of this situation was both incomplete and totally tilted in Jodi's favor. The jury already knows it cannot believe Ms. Arias, why should they believe a person who interviews only Jodi and spouts off a bunch of stuff when the physical evidence defies a "defensive episode". The awful character assassination of Travis by ALV was uncalled for and unsupported. The jury knows that.

No wonder Ms. Wilmott was having trouble, her client is, most likely at a minimum going away for the rest of her life at best, and it seems possible the rest of her life might be less than natural - JMO.

bbm

and I wonder if there were other questions that were even more devestating for the defense that were kept out?!

I seriously want to know what JA writes about all day..... she sure does an awful lot of writing.

I've thought about that. I go back and forth by the hour. At the moment I say yes because she will surely now be reviewing a lot of information to which she has not been privy.
I'm not so sure of that. An attorney here stated that expert witnesses are not admonished to not watch media or speak with others about the case. She says she hasn't been privy to any of the trial testimony, but she said nothing about any other or secondary exposure. She has apparently familiarized herself with what's going on and being said by the public on the internet, in forums, and on twitter at least. That is in the motion filed by the defendant for a mistrial claiming some witnesses in the case are being affected by those things, and apparently why, as was reported by the media, she was in the emergency room recently, being treated for a panic attack and palpitations. Am I understanding this correctly?

I am so sorry, I know te case well as it happened in my state. It is/was just terrible.

Then we are in the same state. And the parallels here: a gun from Rachel's parents house was stolen and Rachel and Lillian were killed with that gun. He had wild stories about how it happened and was erratic in the days afterwards.

He fled and Jodi was going to flee.

I think she was going to flee. There has been speculation that there was someone else she may have wanted dead. That 9MM, knife in her car. *shudder*

It reminds me of that crazy astronaut who drove across country to Florida wearing a diaper so she wouldn't have to stop and go to the bathroom.

She wasn't worried about gas cans, lol.

Did you miss when the judge stated ...very firmly ...in a dismissive manner ...that THIS matter was a priority?

Just wondering what you, as a juror, way up there ...are compensated for serving?

:floorlaugh::floorlaugh:
Way up there....:floorlaugh::floorlaugh:
In think our jurors get about $24 a day plus gas mileage....not a big difference in jury pay, in any case....
