WH Spokesman Tony Snow's cancer returns

We were just talking about this today in my Bible study group. Almost all of our prayer requests were about cancer in people very young. We were trying to remember if our parents' friends had cancer like this when we were growing up, and no one could remember it like this.

Was it that we didn't know about it until it was too late? Was it much more hush hush? Or was there just a lot less? It is horrifying.

I will keep Mr. Snow in my prayers as well. So sad.
I think, in general, there are better diagnosis for various ills. Plus, as a society, we are now much more open than they used to be back in the day, so to speak.

My prayers and good wishes for Tony Snow. I would never let my political affiliation affect my ability to have compassion for another human being who is suffering with ill health.

Prayers to Tony and family. He's a neat guy. I was so sad to hear this. Cancer is the pits. It does seem to be striking young people more to me too. Is that just becuase I'm older? I don't know, but my 74 year old parents say the same thing.

I think a couple things come into play here. I am one of the "older" posters here and remember that cancer was something about which no one spoke. A great-aunt of mine had cancer, but it was never discussed out loud. A well-known local clergyman had cancer, but it was not widely discussed. When he went to Roswell Park in Buffalo, NY for treatment the cause of his illness was an open secret, but still not widely discussed.
On the other hand, I think many more people are being affected by various toxic chemicals, pollutants, etc. and that is why younger people are now in the mix. Finally, we are able to diagnose so many cancers earlier.

Also, I think it is wonderful to have this out in the open now. If only we could get mental illness into that category of openness...
