What Differences Will A Year Make...If Trial is Set for January 2010?

  • #21
She will be a grown woman of 24, not a sweet young 22, if the trial begins in spring, 2010. The jury may find her less "appealing" and have less sympathy for her as a 24 year old "tot mom."
The only satisfaction that I have- if justice is put off for Caylee another year- is knowing that Casey will realize she'll be sitting in jail doing nothing, seeing no one, and growing old mighty fast. JMO

If they set the trial date tomorrow for January 15th 2010, what difference do you think the year will make? Not much other than Casey will look older and not very appealing to any young, male jurors. She'll be less sympathetic because she'll look older.

Will the majority of people lose interest? I don't think so

Will it be better or worse for Casey? Worse, reason given in question #1

Will the media cover the trial with the same
attention they are giving the case now? Yes

Will things "quiet down" from daily "bombshells"
to the very occasional one. Yes

What will Nancy Grace do? Go on hiatus? She'll find something else to talk about every night, unfortunately because it'll mean there's been another crime committed.

Will the A's be able to start putting their lifes back
together or keep it on hold for a year? That one's really hard to answer!

Will JB still be Casey's attorney? Oh yes! :blowkiss:

Will the Dream Team still be around? At JB's urging

Will Casey crack? Absolutely NO!

What difference do you think a year will make? Not much and I wouldn't be surprised if it does get dragged out until then. Maybe by that time though Caylee will finally be buried. MOO

ITA this is a good thread.....

my question is about this.....why does it need a year to get to trial? Hasnt some cases in Fla been quicker than this? As if they need to allow a whole year for the denfense to go thru discovery. At the hearing on friday, did I hear the Judge basically tell the defense they can have as much time as they needed to do this?

I'm with RR004, I dont think I have a year in me to find out the real edvidence behind this murder!!

Having watched other major cases from beginning to end, there will be a lull in the coverage after a while, with only the occasional new story.

Nancy Grace will continue reporting on this case for a while, and there will likely be other missing persons cases that will take prominence. Eventually, another case will take the lead and she will only discuss this case briefly as new developments occur, giving it 5 or 10 minutes on her nightly program.

I doubt Casey will confess or take a plea bargain. JB will remain her attorney and he wants this case to go to trial to enhance his career. Some of the defense team will remain and others may go onto other cases.

George and Cindy will have time to get their lives back together as best they can. I doubt they'll leave their home and Orlando. In the present economy they can't expect to sell their home and come out ahead, and their house may be difficult to sell because of this case. Hopefully George and Cindy will get much needed counseling and come to grips with all that's happened. Their lives will never be the same, but they will have to learn to live with a new reality, as difficult as it may be.

A year's time will help the prosecution in building a solid case. A years's time won't help the defense.

This case will remain important to those who've followed it, and to the people in Orlando. Although it won't be the hot topic it's been all these months, there will still be interest. When the case goes to trial, there will be intense interest, and it will again be the top story locally.

The media will cover this case in detail, and there will be daily coverage of the trial.

Will the majority of people lose interest? Yes, they will have lost interest.
What will Nancy Grace do? Go on hiatus? I don't understand this question. I hope that NG will begin to spotlight other missing persons and trials that are of public interest. It's really important for those families of people that are still missing to get the information out there and I would personally like more coverage on the Riley Ann trial.

I'm with you Kat. I do think the media spotlight will move on if the trial is not for a while. Also, I'm wishing there was a more coverage on the Baby Grace (Riley Ann) case. Thankfully, JVM discussed her mother's trial on Friday but not one mention from NG.

The media coverage will die down, everyone's emotions will begin to calm down, people will go on with their daily lives, it will be the calm before the storm. About a week or 2 before trial, the media madness, the case obsessions, and all the high emotions will come out of hybernation IMO.

Much of the drama will be forgotten and I think it will only benefit her.jmho of course.

I beg to differ...Laci Peterson went missing in 2002 and Scott Peterson was convicted in 2005 and it was just as hot of a topic then as it was in the beginning.

When cases are given as much spotlight as Nicole Smith-OJ, Laci Peterson-Scott Peterson...I believe people will be just as intrigued with the case despite the delay to get to trial.

Will the majority of people lose interest? Not LE, SA and many WS'ers, but other cases will occur that will draw media attention away for many people.

Will it be better or worse for Casey? Both: Better in that attention will die down, worse in that it gives the prosecutors that much more time to tie up lose ends, and she will have spent 18 mos in jail by then. Lack of being center of attention will take it's toll on her pysche and she will behave even worse by then.

Will the media cover the trial with the same
attention they are giving the case now? 'TH' media will storm the courthouse once this goes to trial. Yes.

Will things "quiet down" from daily "bombshells"
to the very occasional one. For now, yes. but each doc dump and motion hearing, plus change in the A family will renew 'bombshell' snippets throughout the year.

What will Nancy Grace do? Go on hiatus? Find another cause/victim/perp

Will the A's be able to start putting their lifes back
together or keep it on hold for a year? Perma-hold

Will JB still be Casey's attorney? Hope not

Will the Dream Team still be around? Not all of them. Dr. Lee is doubtful

Will Casey crack? nada chance

What difference do you think a year will make? More likelihood of a solid, irreversible conviction, plus a few more complaints against JB, and at least one more major bombshell yet to come.

Red bold above are my answers

very interesting thread... and one issue that I had actually wanted to discuss on websleuths.......was pertaining to what the SA said at the last hearing.... that change of venue was not needed right now because if the trial were a year out things could change where IT WOULD NOT BE NEEDED.

That got me to thinking.... what could possibly make it not needed??? And then I thought....more evidence coming back in that links Casey directly to the body...like fingerprints on the tape or garbage bags and she ended up admitting guilt....

The female SA said it with so much determination it made me wonder if some of that testing weren't, in fact, back already!

Just thinking out loud....

I had the same thoughts, Bee. I think LDB even used the word 'dramatic' in there, as in, "... things could change dramatically, where it would not be needed."

My first reaction was, 'PLEA?'

My second was, "Who will turn state's witness."
