Speaking of Jose - what about the comment he made in court not too long ago where he said 'when KC hired me in June' - he may have actually said on June 16th or something. He clearly said June and nobody corrected him.

If KC contacted a lawyer in June of 2008, that would really be weird and if so, what did she tell him then?

This statement by Jose Baez has been my biggest WHOA moment so far....

Jose Baez stated in court while testifying that he was retained by Casey Anthony on June 16, 2008. He filed his first Notice of Appearance as her attorney on July 17, 2008.

While some speculated that he just "misspoke" and stated the wrong month, he was actually off by a MONTH and A DAY :waitasec:???

Then take into consideration that a local defense attorney (RH), who is very privy to the jail, court system, etc in the Orlando area, was himself perplexed enough to publish a blog on the subject...for your recollection....

http://blog.richardhornsby.com/2009/12/attorney-of-record-in-record-time/

So why would Jose Baez testify in court that he entered into a client/attorney relationship with Casey as early as June 16, 2008?

I suspect the reason was a little defense strategy...a little CYA! I suspect that it is very possible that KC initiated contact with Jose Baez (consultation) shortly after the demise of Caylee, but I suspect it was some 🤬🤬🤬🤬 and bull story she invented on a whim...I think she probably created a story to keep him intrigued enough that he would come running IF she initiated a followup call (if and when she got "caught....just covering her bases)....

I suspect this may even have been an in-person visit to his office for the reasons I am about to describe...I don't think Casey actually retained him at this point as she didn't have any access to money.....Amy was paying for her beer and frilly undergarments at Target!

Baez was eventually retained (obviously) but I think the decision to "back up" the date of contract came in order to protect any and all conversations he had with KC between June 16th and July 17th under attorney/client privelege.

I think Baez was very afraid that SA may uncover evidence that KC had contacted an attorney shortly after Caylee was last seen. If SA HAD uncovered such information and Baez was not yet KC's attorney, could they not issue an investigative subpoena regarding any contact? What did KC say, how did she act?

What if KC HAD visited Baez office for consultation in June (but did not retain him until July), could an employee of Baez Law Firm "sell out" a story to the tabloids that KC had in fact consulted an attorney within days of Caylee's demise? There have been quite a few who have come and gone since this case began...not a lot of loyalty to the firm....

By backing up the retainer date to June 16th, Baez and any and all employees of the Baez Law Firm are now protected by privilege, thus protecting KC's story of "31 days".....they don't even need to give an explanation as to why she sought out an atty on June 16th now....could just offer explanation that KC sought legal advice on how to handle Nanny stealing her child, and NO ONE can question them on it!

I think Baez was expecting that question in court that day, and knew the minute he spoke those words, no one could question him on it. He was covering BOTH their .........!:furious:

EDITED TO ADD:

This whole line of thinking was sparked off while recalling how Baez was so desperately trying to "fudge" the time period of his supposed contract with Dominic Casey in order to claim "privilege"

Lee in his depo stating caylee is alive. He said it very emphatically and there's no doubt in my mind that he was being told what to say by Cindy. Do ANYTHING to throw the searchers off, so they don't find the body.

Was gonna start a thread on this...probably doesn't warrant one....BUT, what in the world are these Geraldo "Casey bashing" comments on national TV just recently....don't know when his b'day party was that JB was at....but, just seems beyond bizarre.....IMO.

Almost "Nancy Grace-ish" or worse, if you can imagine THAT....LOL

In the beginning of this circus, it seemed he was "Team Baez/Casey Anthony"....I know with all the evidence, it's more than obvious. But, I haven't been able to figure this one out or can't believe he's coming out with his guns blazing like that....maybe just me...has been buggin' me since he first said it....then, said it AGAIN on a career "recap" thingie he did.
Oh, well...so what else is new with this nonsense....

Way back when LA hired Luka, the police wanted to interview him. They said, he knows what he's done????

I wonder what LE meant by that???

Sorry if this was asked and answered already, I just haven't seen it...JMHO

Justice for Caylee

I remember when LE said that and have always wondered what they meant as well! "Lee knows what he has done" Wonder what LE was talking about?!

I also remember the Lee's comment re: *Is this like the other time* All I can remember about that is.. putting that statement into context at that time (cuz I don't recall what the context was, 2 yrs later :waitasec:) for me it was not as nefarious as it sounds..Dang it, I can't remember what the circumstances of the convo was now..sucks getting old..

ICA and Lee's HI-5 just appalled me, I couldn't believe it, but IIRC it was nothing more than because they had made it through the hoards of reporters. Big Whoop, guess they thought that was just the greatest thing since sliced bread...and at that time Caylee was still 'missing'. :furious:.made me want to slap them both!

I have always wondered about that statement as well, but just recently reread the Diane Fanning book and something stood out at me...

In the book, Diane Fanning states that when Amy and Cindy arrived at Tony's apt, Amy knocked on the door and when it was opened, the boys were sitting on the couch waiting for a ballgame to start, and Casey was sitting on couch on her laptop.

When Cindy demanded Casey accompany her home, Casey left, leaving behind everything including her cellphone.

HOWEVER, later in the book, Diane Fanning states that when Lee arrived at Tony's apt at 2 am to retrieve Casey's belongings, he claims the laptop was in kitchen on counter sitting on charger but when he attempted to boot up, he got the "blue screen of death"...

So my question.....how did the laptop supposively get from the couch to the kitchen and then placed on a charger? Would Tony or roommate really concern themselves with stepping away from ballgame to recharge laptop "just in Casey needs it later"?????

Or is the whole "charger story" a cover story of Lee's and HE immediately attempted to delete or crash the laptop at 2 am when he showed up at Tony's to get laptop and concocted "blue screen of death/virus" story to cover his butt?

Could this be what LE was referring to in "Lee knows what he did".....attempted to tamper with evidence???

I've always been pretty convinced that yes, LE was talking about Lee's hamfisted attempts to delete stuff from KC's laptop before LE got it. It was apparent he was tampering with evidence in a misguided attempt to protect his suister. (Something he probably learned from dear old dad and has been doing for all of his life. 'Quick Lee go clean up your sisters mess again!")

I still think that JB just did his usual blurt out an incorrect and inaccurate statement before mentally proofreading it. Anyone else I might suspect some ulterior motive, but we have seen from JB's writing, his interviews, his appearances in court, etc, that he really doesn't get his facts straight ever, and is prone to verbal diarrhea without ever actually passing it through a mental error checking filter. I don't this KC signed him on in June. I don't think she ever planned that far ahead. Given her personality she would not get a lawyer until she absolutely needed one. Now unless she was seeking to hire him for some other purpose, such as suing her mother for the house? I just don't buy into the whole June thing being anything more than a verbal flub, or as we like to think of them, JB at his best.

Besides which if she had contacted him in June, he would have had a month to easily figure out (ok it is JB, so maybe not quite so easily) that he was never going to get paid. JB is not a pro bono type attorney. He certainly can;t afford to be. If she had come to him previously in June, he sure as hell would not have been filing that notice of appearance in July unless or until he had cash or a check in hand (even if it was one of Amy's). I may question JB's strategy, his ethics, his abilities and his communication skills. But I will never question his ultimate desire to get paid for his representation.

Prolly alreadybeen posted - but Caysey's first call to the house.

"They just want Caylee back. That is all they are worried about right now is getting Caylee back," Casey Anthony said. "And you know what, that is all I care about right now."

Then there's the infamous Chili statement:

Rather than talking about Caylee, Casey managed to speak about how miserable she was on Saturday, and how she spent it “reading her bible”:

George: Okay, I’m going to do this on my own and I’ll do this very quickly, okay? So how did you get through last Saturday?

Casey: I didn’t. I spend the day almost completely by myself, with my head under the covers. I read my Bible almost the entire day, it was miserable. It was completely and utterly miserable. Just like I have been the entire time it was the first time outside of our visits that I’ve really shown any emotions. I was open and I didn’t care because I couldn’t hold anything back. I broke down. It was the first time that I truly, truly broke down. And it hurt and I’m still recovering from that. Hearing about the fact that Mom was making chili but there’s probably a bunch of people at the house..

Not a mere word about Caylee.

Have you ever seen this? R. Hornsby explains this matter.

http://blog.richardhornsby.com/2009/12/attorney-of-record-in-record-time/

Thanks for that! A lot of reading, but well worth it. Makes me question now just how quickly JB jumped on this case and WHY? Did Cindy or George know him? I just don't buy that Caysey got his number from a cellmate when she was in segregation. Now I'm curious if JB had any connection to the Anthony's before Caylee dissapeared.

Wow, I bet you could be right about this. I always wondered if the computer experts were able to identify exactly what time the 'blue screen of death' occurred on the laptop and the other activity on the laptop at that time...which would implicate Lee? I always found it hinky anyway that Lee went there at 2 AM to collect items the same night. I felt he was doing it to help cover her tracks rather than to help LE. Did LE even know he was going there?

pip,

According to LA (Yeah, consider the source) ..he said that should have been no secret to LEO's.

I just don't see LE sending the brother of the perp to gather what could be, and ultimately ended up being evidence.

Does KC not realize she constantly contradicts herself within the same sentence? How was she open with her emotions if her head was under the covers all day?

It's like when LE took her to Universal and asked who Juliette Lewis was...and KC stated she's a co-worker, and works in the same (events) department as her. Then KC says that Juliette hasn't worked there in a few months.

It's like... What?!

Oh, and what baffles me is Jesse Grund (and others) stating that KC is a "diabolical" liar.
She sucks at lying. There isn't anything diabolical about it!

I just have to wonder how many items of potential interest didn't make it from Tony's to LE's hands. Did he ditch any receipts, etc.?

I would assume that the experts will be able to work out everything that went on with that laptop, (cannot wait for all the computer forensics to be released) I actually thought Lee got to Tony's earlier, was expected home soon, but didn't return for hours. Plenty of time to try and wipe a laptop, restore to orig settings etc.

I remember reading early in the case that casey went to school with baez daughter .

Been so long I can't recall which it was, but recollection of this was that in the beginning, some were speculating that Baez daughter attended the same high school, but graduated the same year KC started high school...

But then think that was debunked when it was proven by CB resume that she actually grew up and graduated from a high school in the Miami area???

Answer might be in MythBusters thread....
