'This change makes me feel weird': America reacts to Dunkin’ Donuts dropping the Donuts from its logo, leaving a hole in the hearts of millions
  • Social media users react negatively to the doughnut chain's decision
  • Dunkin' Donuts announced that it will change its name to simply 'Dunkin'
  • The rebrand will start on January 1, when the new name will appear on napkins, store fronts and other merchandise
  • The name will eventually be adopted in Dunkin's 12,500 international stores
  • Rebrand is a company effort to reflect increasing focus on coffee and drinks
  • Dunkin' claims to be the largest donut seller in the U.S. raking in more than $2.9billion annually

Why the name change?? I know when I go through the drive thru now at Dunkin Donuts - they say welcome to 'Dunkin' and leave off the donuts part.

Just weird to me. I guess coffee and drinks are their high profit items.

Maybe it's because they no longer contain actual doughnuts, just as KFC no longer contains actual chicken?

There are Dunkin' Donuts everywhere back East. Here within four miles of Dunkin Brands World Headquarters there seem dozens - scores - of them. For all I know there are Dunkin' Donut shebeens operating in residential districts after hours.

There are few certainties in life; they'll always be DD to me.

I love their Sour Cream glazed donuts. They still have donuts.

I don't eat chicken but what do they have if it is not chicken? I am almost afraid to be asking this question.

It was a joke. Many years ago Kentucky Fried Chicken changed its name to KFC. There was a widespread urban myth that they did so for legal reasons to remove the word chicken because supposedly their chicken no longer was.

I don't care for their donuts (prefer Krispy Kreme) but there is a DD in practically every town in NJ. Have many memories of going to DD and getting munchkins to bring to my kid's school for birthdays or to soccer or basketball practice for after game snacks.

My daughter is studying abroad and in Austria right now and she told me that a DD just opened a Dunkin Donuts in town.

I didn't know they had an international presence but obviously they do:

It is branding madness the sales are going to nosedive. I prefer Krispy Creme too.

Well Dunkin Donuts has been around forever and I was very disappointed to hear that they were dropping the Donut part.
When they first started that is what they were, coffee & donuts, seems they forgot what put them on the map.
I am not to big on their coffee because I like a very strong dark roast but I do like their donuts. :)

I don't think I've ever eaten either brand but I looked at the KK ones in Tesco once out of curiosity. £1.50-£2.00 for one ruddy doughnut?

I like DD's coffee fine IF I get their dark roast, and they do have one! Before that, they offered Turbo Shots, which they may still. I'd order a turbo shot ( espresso, I think) added to a regular coffee. Those would put hair on my chest, if I were male, lol. I've always been fond of their donuts :)

I know they are a total rip-off but they are a tasty occasional treat. I normally buy Morrison’s or Tesco’s own doughnuts 4 for £1.

No idea what they taste like, obviously, but they look very unappealing. They have a weird, artificial look to them that just radiates chemicals and additives.

I quite like Pret's baked jam doughnuts which are 50p each.

I'm a DD fan. My DD refillable mug is decrepit looking. New employees ask how old is my cup and where did I get it.

BTW. My DD has discontinued Cinnamon munchkins! They've kept the ones with the red filling, but ditched the cinnamon?

And! I keep forgetting that when I order a dozen assorted munchkins i am paying for an order of 10 plus 2 single munchkins.

Don't get me wrong, I love DD ...er...D, but they gotta loosen up on their munchkin game.

I am not a fan of DD coffee. Too weak. A few years ago they came out with a Men In Black-3 iced coffee drink, Black Cocoa Crème Iced Coffee. Nice and dark! BUT, after the movie premiere, they pulled the drink. They should have kept it!
