Regarding needing to want to be in treatment, this IS true. Many many many many people WANT help, but can't get it because there is no room in treatment programs. I have known many people calling daily waiting for their name to come up on the list so they can get help. When people are forced in it usually does not work. The addict needs to want to recover.

Very true. The problem is, many addicts are forced into treatment through courts, etc., and they don't want to be there. They are taking a spot away from someone who truly realizes they have a problem and want help. Really is sad.

Regarding Whitney, this is her FOURTH attempt at rehab - that we know about. She has never gone on her own - her family has put her there. IMO, she will not survive her addiction.

I don't blame Bobby Brown for Whitney's condition. I blame Whitney. She knew what he was before she became involved with him. He didn't deceive her. The whole world saw what he was. Also, while it is true that she was raised in church, that doesn't necessarily mean that Whitney was a good Christian girl before she met Brown - I don't think that she was. I do, however, know that she wasn't a drug addict. Oh, and in case anyone is wondering, the answer is no- "no" I am certainly not a fan of Bobby Brown.
Thank you, for being the voice of reason. It's time people take responsibility for their own decisions. Nobody forced her to do drugs. I'm no fan of Bobby Brown either, but I'm sick of the blame game.

The rapid detox process DOES work, physically it clears the heroin and other NARCOTICS from the body. It does not work for Meth. or other ' uppers'. I am not sure about Cocaine. It does not work for sedatives or benzodiazapines.

What they do in the process is taken from what is done for people who have OD'd from a narcotic.
The drugs given during the rapid detox are an anesthetic agent to render them unconscious, then they are given a narcotic antagonist in a large dose IV through a continuous drip.
The narcotic antagonist agent can cause hypertensive crisis, uncontrolled fast heartbeat, everything associated with a CNS stimulant.

When the person is awakened, the DRUG is cleared from the body. The PHYSICAL DETOX is completed in a matter of hours, usually around 3 hours, but may vary due to the person's age, physical health, presence of hypertension or cardiovascular disease, from what I have read.

However, physical detox is usually easy to achieve safely through gradual withdrawal on a scale consistent with the half life of the substance being withdrawn, it just takes a few days longer. I have mixed feelings about a " no pain" detox. Sometimes, the memory of how detox feels is a deterrent to early relapse.

Also, IMHO, it's the new way of thinking, the changing of habits, of friends, of overcoming the emotional cravings which spells success and remaining clean and sober- one day at a time. It takes behavior modification and a VERY STRONG will to go to Narcotics Anonymous, develop a 12 step program and stay clean.
A good strong support system is crucial. Bobby Brown is Whitney's biggest nightmare.

I hope so much that Whitney will find peace and sobriety far away from the people who dragged her down into this lifestyle.

This is a woman who was a magazine cover model when she was 16 years old. She was gifted with talent and beauty which very few women in my generation have had naturally.
She had everything... now, it's all been taken away by bad choices, years of abusing her body and mind, and a very sick relationship with a controlling drug- using man.
Do you know if it works for nicotine? Or do you know of an inpatient program for cigarettes?

Whitney Houston seeks separation By JOHN ROGERS, Associated Press Writer

Their troubles were tabloid fodder and their relationship seemed to outsiders to be a mismatch. But for 14 years, Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown publicly professed their love for one another.

The couple's tumultuous marriage appears to be coming to an end. Houston filed papers in Orange County Superior Court on Friday requesting a legal separation from Brown because of irreconcilable differences.

Houston's publicist, Nancy Seltzer, said the Grammy-winning singer would have no comment on the action.

"It is a legal separation. It is not a divorce or a divorce petition," said Phaedra Parks, an entertainment lawyer in Atlanta who represents Brown.

Houston, 43, asked that she be granted custody of the couple's 13-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina, and that Brown, 37, be allowed visitation rights. She asked that property rights be determined later.

Right. JMO but from what I've read and seen lately she is not fit to be a mother at this time in her life. Neither is Bobby for that matter. Well, this has been a long time coming.

She's destroyed herself with drugs--just goes to show that fame money and talent for some people is not enough....or perhaps its too much to handle----I think her decline started, not just from hooking up with Bobby Brown, but from what she said at the London Pallidium back in the early '90's: "I'm bigger than the Beatles",a statement that was met with stony silence from the sold-out crowd
