I like to check NAMUS once in a while for my area to see if anything new has been posted.
Today, I saw that Winnebago County is showing 13 unidentified persons cases, and a lot of them look like they were added in 2026.
I’ve lived here my whole life and haven’t heard anything about multiple sets of remains being found, especially not several showing up around the same time like this. That’s the part that really seems strange. Even one case like that usually gets talked about.
I asked a couple people I know if they had heard anything and they hadn’t either. One thought maybe they could be Native American remains found during digging, but that doesn’t really add up. Early February in Wisconsin the ground is usually frozen solid, so it’s not like there would be a bunch of digging going on then.
What’s throwing me off is that those February dates are listed as the dates the remains were discovered. That’s why this doesn’t quite make sense to me.
Just trying to figure out what I’m actually looking at here. Are these actually new discoveries, or something else going on? Can anyone shed some light on this or if it might just be an error?
