WI - 35W bridge in Minneapolis collapses!

Awww...it must be so hard for the last two families who have waited so very long. How excruciating watching them bring everyone else out and one by one to wait over and over...and it not be your own. I don't think I could take it. Bless their hearts.

Yes SS it must be devastating for the remaining families. The construction workers Mom was on the news. She stated it was so hard waiting, but having to be prepared to go in case they called her, & his remains was found.

I can't imagine them not being able to find the skid loader in the river. They are quite large & with either the bucket or the lifts on it.

It is raining very hard here, but no storms. Will make the river unstable again & difficult for the divers. Totally heartbreaking for the families. They claim the divers can now only see 1 ft in front of them.

cheko, please keep us updated. You will probably hear things on the local news that we won't hear, or see, nationally. I can envision that skip loader burying itself in the river bed, with the driver underneath it, especially if the bridge came down on it. Have they began removing any of the bridge sections yet??

Thanks so much for the update :) I can't find anything now on the national news online. Is there a link to a local site?

As far as I know they have not taken any of the bridge pieces down. They are still working on getting the cars out.

I certainly will keep you posted. I missed the early news. But certain they never did any recovery today its been raining really hard all day.

More remains found

Updated: 12:34 p.m. ET Aug 19, 2007

MINNEAPOLIS - Human remains were found near the site of the bridge collapse Sunday morning, authorities said.

The Hennepin County medical examiner was working to identify the remains recovered by water teams in the Mississippi River, the sheriff's office said. A vehicle also was removed from the crumpled Interstate 35W bridge.

There have been no new remains identified since Thursday, leaving the number of dead from the Aug. 1 collapse at 11. The two people remaining on the list of missing are Scott Sathers, 29, of Maple Grove, and Greg Jolstad, 45, of Mora.

Bad weather on Saturday had hampered recovery efforts at the site of the collapse.

Another body was found at the I35 bridge collapse!

Details will be in 10 pm news.

Oh, that is awful! There are two left and they decide they have to hide which one?! <sigh> Can't they be be more delicate?!

Thanks! I'd imagine the identification is becoming difficult unless they're found inside their cars. :(

Scott Sathers age 30 is the one found!

Seems the only one left is the construction worker driving the skid loader. I'd imagine to pull the skid loader up is going to require a big effort.

They had a special segment on the news about the bus driver......I felt so sorry for her I was crying.

She stated the Taystee truck driver had passed the bus/ she said he had the biggest smile ever on his face & waved to her. She said all the kids had him tooting his horn. She said all of a sudden she felt the bridge begin to sway. She grabbed ahold of the steering wheel / put on her brake & turned her wheels because she thought they were going to go off it.

She said she was injured (her back is broken in 2 places) she tried to reach down to put on the emergency brake/ but couldn't. She kept her foot on tha brake the entire time the kids were being taken off. The kids would never of gotten off / the back brace on the door had broken, she said it was definately a act of God. She said, she knew if she let off the brake, the bus would roll backwards onto the kids. That when she is driving the bus all 62 kids are hers!

The truck was on fire & she knew she had to get out quickly or she might not make it out & had to have help to get out of the bus. Then someone came in & put on the emergency brake for her & helped her out. She said the pain was worse then giving birth. She is just thankful she was able to keep her foot on the brake & it never went backwards & all the kids were safe.

She said she tried to find the man in the truck from the people on the bridge. Everyone thought he had made it out. She said she knew she'd recognize him if she seen him. She said he was NOT there. She was crying & it broke my heart.

Her hubby had to quit his job to stay home to take care of her. She says pain pills don't help & the pain is awful. She says she is no hero, I took care of my kids on the bus the same as if they were my own.

What a wonderful person she is. She is young never said her age but what a awesome gal she is.

OMG! You made me cry! What a wonderful, yet horrific story! Bless her heart! I can't imagine what kind of pain she has to endure from now on and how gracious she was in how she reacted while she was hurt so badly. What a wonderful woman! Putting the children above everything and thinking about that man that made her smile. She is truly a Saint. Bless her heart. She will be rewarded accordingly someday. Karma is. : )
