WI - 35W bridge in Minneapolis collapses!

Not certain this link will work.
I heard about this on KQRS this morning.
It is such a sad story. This guy named Micheal Stoner & his girlfriend Crystal Manning were on the way to the hospital to see her 2 yr old daughter who is in critical condition from faling down steps, when they plunged into the river.

Fact is CarrotTop Micheal Stoner will probably be charged with abuse. Little Emmaline had a severe burn & human bite marks on her body. He is in jail now.......her Mom don't buy the fact her bf would hurt her.........

Like yeah right we've seen & heard of this type before huh???

http:Kare11News.com Man called hero may face charges
I hope the mother, Crystal Manning, is able to figure out what attracted her to a man like Michael Stoner so that she doesn't make that mistake again. He must have some severe character defects.

Sounds like the Mom is in total denial. No way would Micheal (they call him Carrot top for short) would do such a thing!!! Yet he drove by 2 hospitals with the little girl. He is in jail now for a felony in Wis.

They were talking about it on the radio this morning & my son heard it. He was so mad........he said here some real nice guys died on the collapse & here this looser lived.Yet he never thought twice of trying to kill the little girl..... Makes you wonder why?

The mother obviously has issues too; otherwise they wouldn't be together; as they say, it takes two.

Makes you wonder what the he!! is she thinking?
The little girl is in critical condition & she is worried about him.:slap:
Wonder how the Mom is explaining the big burn on her leg? Then the human bite mark?

Yes it takes two......but how can one be so stupid when your childs life is on the line is beyond me.

Maybe the reason these people were spared is to give real justice to the child. Had they been killed...the child wouldn't have the best opportunities to heal from such mental wounds when compounding them with the loss of the mom.

They both need to face up to the abuse and take their punishment.

Cheko, it is denial or the mother is just as guilty, perhaps. Either way, the child is suffering and they need to pay.

Yes SS it is denial, the Mom needs mental help if she stands by the loosers side.

The child has had brain surgery & still in critical condition. I hope the SOB rots in jail......thank goodness she was taken to Mn hospitals & they found it or he would of walked. We are well aware of Wisconsin justice!!!!

This proposed tax hike comes after he spent 450 thousand $$$ on a rest area near the boundry waters in Mn. They claim approx 2000 cars a week drive by the rest area. But he goes there several times a year & wanted it to look nice.

Possible design flaw found in collapsed U.S. bridge

MINNEAPOLIS (Reuters) - A week after a deadly bridge collapse, U.S. Navy divers cut through tangled debris with underwater torches and saws on Wednesday in the search for victims while investigators identified a possible flaw in the 40-year-old span's design. The August 1 rush-hour collapse of the Interstate 35W bridge hurled vehicles into the Mississippi River 65 feet below, with many tumbling onto the bridge's crumpled concrete deck.

Reacting to the disaster, officials demanded inspections of potentially suspect bridges across the United States amid renewed calls to shore up the country's aging infrastructure. Five people were killed in the bridge collapse, a death toll that was confirmed within a day of incident. Eight other probable victims are listed as missing.

The recovery process has been slowed by huge slabs of steel-reinforced concrete and dangerous chunks of debris submerged in the river's swift, turbid waters. In some cases, divers had to use their fingertips to read license plates. "This is going to be a process of having to, most likely, pull these vehicles out and do a long-term extraction, taking apart the vehicle to recover evidence, (and) any (human) remains," Minneapolis Police Capt. Mike Martin told reporters.

National Transportation Safety Board investigators said they had found a potential design problem with gusset plates, or steel plates that tie together angled steel beams of the bridge's frame. Investigators are trying to verify loads and stresses on these plates at specific locations as well as the materials used to construct them. Officials stressed the finding is preliminary and would not say exactly where the plates were located, or whether failure would have caused the collapse, are continuing to make progress on this investigation, and each area of inquiry gets us closer to ultimately determining the cause of this tragedy," National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Mark Rosenker said in a statement.

Bad news for the architects of the bridge if this is what happened, but 40 years later could it be proven? I wonder if any of the original design team still alive to be sued?

Unfortunately, there is so much of this that goes on. Money being spent on a whim, by someone in power, for their own selfish interest. Bridges to nowhere. Airport runways in the boonies extended for a couple of fat cats with big planes.

Taxapyers need to stand up and rail against this abuse, otherwise it will just go on and on.

Your right Buzz, I think the taxpayers will revolt in Mn. They're pretty mad about the bridge collapse. When they heard about the sad state of the rest of the bridges they're screaming mad.

Heard on the news that they removed four more cars, from the wreckage, yesterday, that were in the way of the investigation they are pursuing. Those cars were preventing them from going deeper into the wreckage.

Thanks for the update Buzz.....I never heard the news lastnight.

Still no bodies found. They have divers down 18 hrs a day.
They must be under the major pieces of the bridge collapse.

5 cent gas tax opposed by Bush. Democrats say it would raise $25 billion a year for bridge/infrastructure maintenance and repair.

7th Body Pulled From Mississippi River As Feds Discover Possible Design Problems in Collapsed Bridge

MINNEAPOLIS — Searchers in Minneapolis pulled two more bodies Thursday from the wreckage of the collapsed Mississippi River bridge, authorities said.
The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office said the sixth body was found shortly after noon. Five others were recovered earlier, and crews have been searching the site for the past week for eight people reported missing in the Aug. 1 collapse.

Here is a list of those who are still missing after the collapse:
Christine Sacorafas, 45, of White Bear Lake
Vera Peck, 50, and her son Richard Chit, 20, both of Bloomington
Greg Jolstad, 45, of Mora
Peter Hausmann, 47, of Rosemount
Sadiya Sahal, 23, of St. Paul, and her 2-year-old daughter, Hanah
Scott Sathers, 29, of Maple Grove

At least, they are making progress. Slowly, but surely. With the mine collapse and other things in the news the past day or so...news on the bridge is has slowed to a small trickle with the national media.

Thanks for the updates.

In all, 88 vehicles have been located, both in the river and amid the broken concrete wreckage of the bridge, according to the State Patrol.
