GUILTY WI - Alexander Woodworth, 24, stabbed 16 times by Ezra McCandless, Eau Claire, Mar 2018

yikes, these journals of Alex's are a bit dark eh?

I take these writings to be somewhat clear, although it is just an interpretation.
Her love for JM was her priority, and I’m guessing she asked AW to “distract” her from the issues she was having disentangling from JM, even as she eventually showed she still was in love with JM.

In a very dramatic way, AW was saying that she couldn’t love two people. That loving JM CC inevitably meant she couldn’t love AW (my annihilation). Pursuing JM with the hope it would work out meant she no longer intended the same with AW.

The cannibalism part is almost certainly philosophical. He refers to cannibalism in a metaphorical way elsewhere in his writings, it is only EM (and her defense team) that suggested his use of the word “cannibalism” was literal. It’s sick, but it helps their case.

A lot of his writings to her had a reciprocal cause and effect idea. If you want to use me then you must also want to be used. If you fully love me then you must want to be fully loved in return.
This makes it easier, to me, to understand some of the more fantastic ideas he conveys in his writings.

He doesn’t want to literally eat her any more than he wants to be eaten.

In short, he is dramatically describing his unrequited love, and the bitterness that has caused.

EM testified that AW considered himself to be a revenant, or someone that has returned from the dead. In some cases with a purpose to accomplish (I think this last part was suggested by the defense, perhaps to embellish the idea that he was on some kind of mission to do something to her?).

It’s pretty clear, at least to me, that is not at all what he was saying. He implied that he was left with a revenant IN HER, when she died to him romantically.

The line, “a person, who spoke of a warm caress while offering a vampire’s touch” is just BRUTAL. He was in love with her and realized she was just using him.

Again, all just my opinion from what writings of AW I’ve read juxtaposed with EM’s testimony.

And one more thing I’m curious about: as the defense pushes this severe PTSD angle, why hasn’t she seemed to get triggered at any point as she testified?

She is extremely upset in the police dash cam footage shown today, but not anytime else that we’ve seen.

I don’t know enough about PTSD to know if that’s how it works, but she has had a completely flat affect throughout. Even in subsequent interviews with police.

She seemed slightly emotional twice, once when Mr. Sipple was on the stand, and one other time I can’t recall. But both of these instances she just teared up a bit.

so far it still isn't clear why
a. they were on that road
b. she lied to LE about not knowing where her driver's license was or c. why she was allowed to drive away if she didn't have it.
d. how M was given the painting at the cafe according to jm but it was in the backseat when the car got stuck in the mud later.
e. there wasn't copious blood in the backseat
f. the crime scene doesn't match her story
g. there were three men's dna on her body or how it got there with the timeline we're working with.

Most of your questions have no answer, lol. But I'll give you my take on some of them. I'm bored listening to this shrink make excuses for Ezra's murder of Alex.

so far it still isn't clear why

a. they were on that road
Answer
That's where she planned to murder Alex or dispose of him or?

b. she lied to LE about not knowing where her driver's license was
Answer
She lost her license because she didn't pay her tickets and didn't have a valid one.

c. why she was allowed to drive away if she didn't have it.
Answer
Cop let her go because he fell for her lie about why she couldn't find it.

d. how M was given the painting at the cafe according to jm but it was in the backseat when the car got stuck in the mud later.
Answer
I missed everything in regards to that painting. Thinking I need to try and find something more about it, might be important.

e. there wasn't copious blood in the backseat
Answer
True, lack of blood in both the front and back seat. We were never told how much blood was outside the car on the ground and if it was enough to account for his injuries. Sad that there has been no crime scene recreation. I wonder why not.

f. the crime scene doesn't match her story
Answer
For one, she lies and the crime scene she described is just another one of her lies. Still wondering why LE didn't try to recreate the crime scene. Who knows where or how Alex was murdered. Why is LE so silent on their interpretation.

g. there were three men's dna on her body or how it got there with the timeline we're working with.
Answer
The information on the 3 males dna found on the pubic swab is just plain confusing. Not many sources out there and what's there is very vague and unclear as to when these tests were done. "A low-level DNA mixture of at least three males was found on a pubic swab from McCandless, according to the report. A DNA profile consistent with Woodworth’s was also detected on a swab of McCandless’ right upper thigh. Scott’s opinions on the other males’ DNA are “irrelevant,” Nelson wrote in a March 1 court filing."

Maybe she just didn't wash her clothes or her body very often. Dirty underwear?

Maybe Alex wrote whatever slur was found on the bathroom wall and that was her motive?
In my mind, when she told Jason about John Hansen's sexual assault (which I'm pretty sure Jason knew about her having sex with Alex and he wasn't happy) he ran to her side and took her to the police station. He believed her. Even after all the lies she told him he still came to her side when she was in trouble. She knew she could depend on him. To win him back I really think that she tried to stage a scene in which Alex Woodworth tried to rape her and she killed him in self defense. By doing so she would have Jason run to her side again and win him back. That's why when she ran to the Stipple home she immediately asked them to call Jason. It is kind of aligns with the prosecution's presented theory but they need to hammer that home in their closing arguments. IMHO

Welcome to WS! :)

While listening to the "crying" recording today I was struck by how long she strung them along pretending to not remember her name.....I think she was trying to buy time.....still trying to figure out in her head how she was gonna get out of this now that her car was stuck in the mud......maybe at first she was hoping there could be a way they'd never figure out who she was.....

This may be TMI but I did a google search to find that sperm can live in the vagina and/or cervix for two days, according to CBS News, and sperm can live inside your uterus for five days, according to Mayo Clinic. According to forensicmag.com you can test DNA in the vagina up to 7 days and semen can be detected on clothing despite washing. Please correct me if I am wrong. I couldn't find the exact answer I was looking for.

I like the way the psychologist blamed her low IQ on the trauma. Why didn't he retake it again after a few months to see if it improved? I can't believe how many words she couldn't pronounce or didn't know when reading Alex's journal. Yet she fancies herself a "discusser of topics", like she's freakin Socrates.

That’s the culture there, in my opinion. For her, it was “Fake it til you make it”, in a sense-at least as far as her art goes. (Also, along your lines, notice she says “seen” multiple times on various occasions instead of “saw”.) The “crowd” she surrounded herself with are artists of different kinds. Painters, (maybe) musicians, writers, etc. Eccentricity is normal, not an oddity, there. I’m very familiar with that “scene”, and area. What I think happened, not that it matters in any way, is that it was a build up of different variables. Wanting Jason is one, but, I think getting stuck in the snow, knowing she (Ezra) wasn’t suppose to even be driving, was the final straw. It’s hard to diagnose a pathological liar. She contradicts herself too many times to count. Ezra remembers details after she supposedly can’t remember in the same breath. It would take way too long for me to list them, but they’re extremely obvious. She remembers what’s convenient. What she thinks will help her. When she was on the stand, when she repeated the question in her answer, I think that was beyond telling. She had practiced her lies, yet she still wanted to give herself a minute by repeating the directs questions in almost every answer. I’ll save my other opinions for later, but I’m so thankful for Websleuths. No one in my life understands my interest for the missing, or crime in general. Thank you everyone for just being here; even if you wholeheartedly disagree with things I may say.

100% agree.

Really hoping the prosecution is working on a powerpoint for his closing that will clearly show all of this.

I'm having a hard time with the way Alex is being bashed by the defense. I've followed a few trials and have never seen so much time and effort spent on demonizing the victim to this extent. Especially having his murderess read what he wrote. Hours spent twisting his words. It's disgusting. And I might add, he wasn't a bad man, save for the interpretations Ezra and her dirty defense are putting on his journals and musings. I'm surprised it is being allowed. And how sad for his family and friends. No evidence has been presented that he was mean or violent and certainly not a cannibal. This is just shameful.

I’m honestly wondering if she is heavily medicated or if she is just that cunning to pull this off. I agree, I don’t understand why there aren’t more character witnesses for either side either (although I have missed some testimony, I’ll admit). It’s all about journals written by 20-somethings. I don’t put much stock in that personally, but that’s just MOO.

Yes, it was very noticeable that she can't read big words like "albeit" and "altruistic."

Yes! All I'm getting out of these journals is how self absorbed all these players are! God help us if this is the next generation.....

That's all true. I know that from back in my trying-to-conceive days (many moons ago). Still, you'd have to be pretty promiscuous to have the DNA of 3 men in or on your genital region!
