"She had just turned 3. Brooklyn Harris had celebrated her birthday on July 1.

Now, her family is struggling to make sense of her death, a little girl shot and killed in a road rage incident Saturday morning.

She was "sweet and quiet," her grandmother told supporters who came to celebrate Brooklyn's life at a vigil Saturday evening. "Her smile would just light you up," her grandmother said...

Brooklyn was riding in a vehicle with her mother and three siblings, ages 1, 2 and 4, when she was fatally shot by another driver after a near-collision near North 42nd Street and West Townsend Avenue.

A suspect, who tried fleeing from police, is in custody. The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office will review the case for charges this week, the Milwaukee Police Department said in a statement."

"Brooklyn Harris didn't cry much. She didn't get into things she shouldn't. She played with her dolls and brightened up rooms. Her grandma called her "Smiley." "She was just a happy little baby," said Lasangna Marie Ferguson-Fields, Brooklyn's grandmother...

Now the family is dealing with the unthinkable - funeral arrangements for a 3-year-old and explaining her death to her siblings. "Right now, it's still unbelievable," Ferguson-Fields said. "I keep saying that she's not gone."...

Ferguson-Fields said Brooklyn's 4-year-old sister was sitting next to her. She is struggling to process what she saw, the grandmother said. "She's thinking that her sister's at the doctor's office, she just hasn't come home yet," Ferguson-Fields said. "We have to get this little girl some sort of counseling."...

Shawndell Harris said he feels sorry he couldn't protect his daughter. "I always told my kids I would be there so nothing happened to them," he said. "It's going to take a long time to get through this one." "I know my baby is in heaven right now," Harris said. "It's not safe down here for nobody.""

"As a gunshot shattered the back window of a mother's car, she turned and saw her 3-year-old daughter fall in the backseat. She ordered the three other children in the backseat to get on the rear floorboards.

Those frantic moments are detailed in a criminal complaint issued Wednesday charging Antonio D. Bratcher, 39, with first-degree reckless homicide in the death of 3-year-old Brooklyn Harris, who was shot in the head Saturday in what police at the time called an apparent road rage incident. Brooklyn was pronounced dead at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.

Bratcher also is charged with five counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, with use of a dangerous weapon, for each of the other individuals in the car: Brooklyn's mother, her adult friend, her adult friend's child, and Brooklyn's two siblings.
