Newspaper article says that he was lost in Nicollet national forest while grouse hunting. FYI FR 2178 is an alternate name for Military Road and in some places its 2183.

Having studied this map with help of my local Sconnie husband, we think based on the direction they could have been at either x on this map. Of course, that pretty much means anywhere around there. Ignore the file name, I screwed it up.

This case was updated today on NamUs without visible change, so any change is on law enforcement's view of it. More than likely it's updating the case with DNA information.

Hunting accident maybe?

No, he was with his son, and just vanished when his son turned around a bit. Nobody shot him.
I was thinking maybe he accidentally shot himself. I missed the fact his son was with him. Sorry.

No problems. Years ago I came across an article with his son describing what happened, I’ll see if I can find it again.

I found a clearer version of his picture from Historicalimages.com, but the site states that he was 77 when the picture was taken in 1969, meaning that he was actually around 83 when he disappeared in 1975. I don’t know how reliable this is..

You should send that LE, I found the current pic in the newspaper and they put it up, so I know they'll appreciate it.

Some things to clear up from a recent newspaper article about this case:

Charles and his son were NOT together. His son wanted to go grouse hunting, but Charles didn't want to get his feet muddy so he was told to stay in the truck.
Charles may have been suffering from dementia and had had two strokes priorto his disappearance.
There is some conflicting information as to the location of the truck that Charles was in - some sources indicate "about half a mile north of Kentuck Lake Road" while others say "on Military Road near the Anvil Lake fire tower..." both of these locations, while near each other, are also separated by a large expanse of forest.

Would you be able to help us with a more accurate map? I went off the first source you mentioned.
