Identified! WI - Delafield, WhtMale, UP7632, car stolen, lighter, Sep'77 - John Lindberg Scott

This is really sad :( it's so sad that this guy ended up like this :( even though he was breaking the law and was making the wrong choices he didn't deserve to die without a name :(
I live in Waukesha County Wisconsin. Delafield is only 20 minutes away from me. I'm going to visit his grave when I get the chance.
I'd think that he might be from Chicago or Indianapolis. I'd try checking juvenile detention center records around those areas too.

He was exhumed and until he is identified the ME has an order allowing the county to store his remains. Curious to know your thoughts on Indianapolis?

i just assumed he might possibly be from there because Indianapolis is a major city if he wasn't from Chicago.

Oh ok, thanks. I wasn't sure if maybe you found a clue in all the mess that makes up this case.

If you map out the addresses:1151 W Roscoe, 2860 N Lincoln Ave (incidentally these two are within a mile of each other in the 60657 zip), 124 W. Hale St (Gaede's Clothing) in Wheaton, and assume he visited Kemmerly Real Estate at 701 East Golf Road in Schaumberg, IL and Johnny's Mobile Home Sales at 2811 W Mannheim Road in Des Plaines, IL... you end up with a triangle that points directly to Chicago's near north side.

Gurnee is roughly 33 miles from Belmont and Kedzie and a straight shot up Highway 41.

Kemmerly Real Estate had 9 locations in 1974 and possibly had 12 in 1977. I can't find any articles verifying those locations but I do have addresses for all 9 from '74. Does anyone have the other addresses post 1974? I want to see if I can put this guy closer to Gurnee prior to when he stole the Pontiac. While Johnny's Mobile Home Sales does mention 4 locations, and one fairly close to Gurnee, the card specifically mentions the Des Planes locations address. Otherwise I assume he literally rode up the highway on a bicycle with the bags of clothes attached to the handlebars in a desperate attempt to get to "Lauri"....got tired and found a convenient vehicle in Gurnee.

BTW...winko567..if this case grabs you, let me know. I'm open :-) Anyone have access to juvenile records?

I found an old Daily Herald article which lists the addresses of the 10th and 11th offices as

425 S. Bartlett Rd. in the Streamwood shopping center.

1435 S. Roselle Rd. in the Schaumburg Roselle area.

http://www.newspapers.com/newspage/52719075/

fwiw they mention being part of the MAP multiple listing service. That's different from the usual MSLNI for the Northern IL area. MAP originally stood for Mount Prospect, Arlington Heights and Palatine.

I'll continue to look for additional office locations.

Thank you Cubby! Seems like Kemmerly claimed the north western suburbs for real estate. I've attached a map of the Kemmerly locations as well as a map of the Chicago addresses with the assumed locations I brought up earlier.

Regarding the possible routes map. I-355 was not yet built in 1977. Route 53 might be a viable alternative to 355.

Yes, very true Cubby. You rock! :-)

I was aiming to build a "ballpark" area of his whereabouts on a map because over time I feel that his involvement in Gurnee was only related to the stolen car. The last time the car was seen was roughly 2:30am and he crashed at roughly 4:30am an hour north of the cars original location. So from 3:30am to 4:30am, give or take a few min., he was on the road in the '62 Pontiac going to a location that only he, and maybe "she", knows about. The remaining known addresses put him in Chicago's near north side and the north western suburbs. I realize this doesn't mean that he wasn't driving "down" from Gurnee to Chicago and the burbs the whole time looking for work etc. There just isn't anything other than the car in Gurnee to pin him there.

Gaede's in Wheaton did sell clothes for both men and women and either he purchased the clothes for "her" or she was there at some point with him. I know I NEVER purchase clothes for my wife unless she is there and had a chance to try them on. Without a description of the women's clothing however we can only speculate but we do know they did not belong to the owner of the vehicle. The clothes he had on, from the pictures, were very appropriate for the time and style...IMHO. I don't think LE would have sent a sample to Gaede's originally if they didn't feel his clothing was new. He also had hundreds of stores to choose from to buy clothes if he was staying closer to Gurnee. Does anyone travel more than 30 miles to buy clothes unless you're in the middle of nowhere? He wasn't....even then.

I wanna know where he was headed. I think that's where our answers are.

I haven't really made my mind up yet if I think he was in a hurry to get somewhere or out of somewhere. But he was obviously a man on a mission that got interrupted. Regardless I still think he had a plan...family or friends up here somewhere maybe.

Seems to me he took 94 up then over. Madison is that way. Iowa. The cities or any where in MN....maybe northern Wisconsin. Just not close enough for family to hear about this IMO. And if he was running from something what if he's never been reported missing cause he was a fugitive.

I see that in the car he had bags of women's clothes and some money. He was also clearly in a rush because he was speeding and crashed. Those things coupled with the fact that he had the lighter with the inscription makes me think that he was going to meet a woman and possibly run away with her. Maybe she was also involved in criminal activity and they were fugitives. That might be whyhe wasn't reported missing, to keep out of trouble.

I was reading post from a while ago on here. And the idea he might of gotten off the train could be a possibility. I was wondering if maybe he was traveling with a woman but got kicked off the train or missed getting back on at a layover. Maybe that's why he seemed stranded yet had woman's clothing. On the flip side I know sometimes homeless people will take whatever donations give em and he could of also gotten the clothes that way. The lighter could of been a lighter he used and never gave back? Idk this one bothers me. Seems solvible and as if he at least had one person out there confused on what happen to him.

Maybe this is a long shot, but the timing fits as do the height, weight and name. The eye color and age are off, but I see some resemblence in the chin area and the moles on our right chin and neck area. I can't explain what looks like a mole on our left next to the nose, but with the destroyed records in WI I don't want rule out based on the few differences.

Thoughts?

I don't see anything to rule him out, and quite a few things that make him possible.

The overall clean-cut appearance is similar.

An LSD flashback would certainly explain his behavior.

Here is his album on the FB page Still Seek Answers & myself run called Never Forget Me

Delafield, WI- White Male September 14,1977 - aged 17 to 30

I noticed I'm not the first person to mention John Barreto as a possible match. Someone mentioned him at the above site back in September of 2014. I did notice a burn scar was mentioned and could certainly be a factor to rule JB out. However, no mention of a scar as a result of a burn made it into JB's NamUs profile.

JB'S NamUs profile lists both dental and dna are available. However with tbe last known contact being via telephone, we really don't know when there was last face to face contact and what information from both profiles mighht be inaccurate or omitted. https://www.findthemissing.org/cases/7696/1

I'm sure only a few would get this; but as a car guy and a person who appreciate vintage automobiles:

How to steal a car, late '60s style! This corroborates on my earlier posts on how to steal a car back then.

what about involvement in home invasions in the area during that period of time ?

Unless there was a unsolved murder involved or other major felony where fingerprints and/or tissue samples (this was pre-DNA) have been stored for comparison, it would be hard to prove that (in my opinion). His fingerprint card is on file but ,from my understanding, would need an old-school manual comparison done. On a positive note, both forms of DNA are now available and one additional rule-out has been listed.

Status: Sample submitted - Tests complete

Exclusions:

John Deeny Unknown Minnesota
Jimmy Robinson 1955 Oklahoma

Have there been any updates on his case? Also, does anyone know why he's been removed from NCMEC site?

NCMEC deals with kids. His age on NamUs is 20-30; I haven't checked Doe net, but most likely they do not think he's under 20

OT, but Buckskin Girl (18-26) and the Pemiscot Does (the male being 25-early thirties, the female being 18-25) are both in NCMEC with reconstructions done. So I don't know why Delafield John wouldn't be put in.
