An unidentified, deceased subject was found in a heavily wooded area on Monday, September 2nd, 2024 in Platteville, Wisconsin, just off of Milwaukee street.

Officers say that the initial autopsy “did not reveal any outward signs of trauma or information which would point to an obvious cause of death,” and “further testing will be done to try and determine the potential cause of death.”

It was, however, revealed that the remains reportedly belonged to an adult, white male, but due to the conditions that the remains were in, officers say that it might be near impossible to determine the cause of death with absolute certainty.

Investigation Update: The Platteville Police Department is continuing the investigation regarding the human remains located in a heavily wooded area west of Milwaukee Street on Monday, September 2nd. An initial autopsy has been completed, which did not reveal any outward signs of trauma or information which would point to an obvious cause of death. Further testing will be done to assist with the determination of the potential cause of death. The condition of the remains at the time of their recovery may make it impossible to determine the cause of death with absolute certainty.
Currently, we can share that the remains are those of an adult, white male. The circumstances around the death, evidence collected at the scene, and the location of the remains indicate that this is an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat or danger to the community.
We will continue to update the public on the status of this investigation when more information becomes available.
