I got the same impression, based on the photo comment and his overall appearance.

My take is different though.

If he did join the military, it would have been very short lived. He might have been discharged during boot camp (failure to adapt).

I absolutely do not think he served for any length of time, nor did he deploy.

We still haven’t heard anything about military service though, so I want to make it clear that this is just speculation, based on knowledge of the process.

Maybe he lasted a day.

I believe he saw her many months prior and planned And food for a guy? Not that difficult - he can re-supply and if he had others over - he hid her away. I don’t think he cared much about keeping her fed and clothed IMO
By her appearance, it doesn’t seem like she was well fed.

I think it’s possible that’s what he was doing yesterday, perhaps buying food or something.

Jayme saw an opportunity and took full advantage.

Haaaaa. He may have lasted a bit longer, but not by choice.

It’s not like you can just say “I quit.”

Good point.

Without a steady job , how was the perp supporting himself -- much less another person -- a teen who need to be fed and kept warm ?
I'm assuming he wanted her alive and god knows how long he intended to keep her. Was he 'inspired' by the abduction and captivity of the Ohio girls ?
Horrifying.

Bothers me to think he could get a reduced sentence if his past (difficult childhood) or mental health are used for his defense.
Other people struggle with mental illness and have had rough childhoods -- and they still didn't murder two people and ruin a young teens' life.

I don’t think he will ever get out of prison, no matter his background. He murdered two people and kidnapped another. Even with reduced sentence, he will still be in there for life IMO

It is interesting: now that we have some facts to revisit gut feelings/instincts...

There two gut feelings I had:

1.) That the perp was a young man who became obsessed with Jayme (I wavered about whether the perp was known or unknown to her etc.)

2.) Jennie-O plant, it's workers, etc. had utterly zero to do with anything

I still think JP may have been inspired by the Short family murders....however, sadly, now I am beginning to think that this is simply going to become more commonplace: extreme violence will accompany the abductions :(

I think it will be sealed forever. The Sheriff refused to talk about what Jayme endured. I take that to mean they don't intend to charge JP for any physical assault because they don't want to have Jayme endure the trauma of testifying about it at trial. JMO

I’ve been worried if she’d have to tell the horror story she endured the last 3mos. I don’t want her to even share air with that scummy devil bat! I think those atrocities should be Jayme’s to decide if/when to ever speak of them. She’s endured enough. moo

Especially during Christmas. I'm wondering if he didn't see his family at all.

He may have made quick visit to his parents, to avoid suspicion.

I am curious how he 'secured her' when he did leave the home. She didn't have any chains on her body. I wonder if he locked her in a closet when he left the home? Or tied her to a chair?

It’s still not clear what he was heading off for, IMO. It might have been active military duty... it could have been some kind of treatment program. Not sure.

I highly doubt he was inspired by the Short case, as it isn’t common knowledge to most people.

I don’t think this will start a trend, mass shootings do that, but this wasn’t motivated for the same reasons that those crimes are.

His psychology is different.

would delinquent property tax be a reason for this?
Delinquent property taxes are handled by statute - our property taxes for 2018 must be paid by March 31 2019 otherwise they go delinquent and a whole series of actions follow but the property owner has opportunities to satisfy the delinquency prior to the tax deed sales - now they are online but I remember when the tax deeds were sold on the courthouse steps !! We have a foreclosure ongoing and the mortgage company has paid the property taxes for the past 4 years - it gets rolled into the final judgment of foreclosure

If it’s foreclosed, probably no one.

Even foreclosure you are not going to have heat or electric, someone has to pay that to keep the fires burning and buy food. Maybe he was on some sort of disability.

I don’t believe the parents “just wandered away”, the brothers were quite young at the time of the divorce, but as per TOS I’ll not discuss them further...

More likely delinquent on the mortgage, IMO.
But we can discuss Patterson himself and his history.

Absolutely. I want to be clear about that too, it’s a feeling based on a picture and a quote. I could definitely be wrong.

But I do think that’s the most likely scenario.

MOO, I would say let her rest a bit. Slowly ease her back to normalcy, even though losing her parents like this won't be normal ever again, sadly.

IMO - I’m sure her family will have her in therapy and recommendations will most likely be based off of Jayme’s comfort level and when the therapists and school officials think the timing is appropriate.

Right. That’s what I meant. There wouldn’t be utilities

His psychology is different.

It is such a hard crime to even think about a 21 year old could for whatever reason develop a fixation on a 13 year old and plan such a brazen targeted crime. I wonder if one of the profiles developed by the FBI (as I recall there were various ones based on the target) was aligned with this suspect like Patterson.

I wonder who was paying the bills such as electric, heat etc if JP did not work.
Then you have taxes and insurance which of course the father would pay if they planned on keeping it as a summer home. But someone unemployed could not have been paying the other month to month things.

Well, the taxes weren’t paid (public record), and it’s surprisingly easy to get away without paying utility bills (or paying the bare minimum) for quite a while, especially in winter - many companies won’t shut off power/heat in the winter months in cold areas. I suspect the house is on a well and possibly heated with a wood stove.

And I’ll be surprised if JP wasn’t doing odd jobs or some sort of other activity cash in hand.

just some speculation I’ll admit.

Because unfortunately that is what some people do, especially hiding behind a computer screen. They want to find the negative even in joyful scenarios. I personally think they themselves suffer from some type of personality issue. JMHO.
Goodness… Please don’t take this the wrong way! I don’t think people realize what a high traffic application Discord is. Literally every child in my life uses it and uses it constantly, I’m talking 24 seven. All I’m saying is that it is one of the easiest ways for strangers to become involved in a young person’s life. It doesn’t mean that they ever interacted with a stranger (tho almost inevitably they do), nor that Jayme used it. But I will just about guarantee you that many children in her life use it; I’m not saying it absolutely relates to Jake, but it should be considered until we know more. If nothing else, keep it in mind for future investigations. We’re all on the same team here, and I am grateful for your observations!

Possible, though he had no record; juvenile records would be private, though, so possibly he could have juvie charges, no adult charges, and go to Ft McCoy etc. But the mom and sister posing with him - seems a little more positive and celebratory, maybe (eg off to the military?) Many up-north families are very proud to send their kids into the services.

Was thinking one of the school-type ones, parents can choose to send kids?
