That could be. I assumed it was because he was holding the gun and couldn't handle the roll of tape and the gun at the same time. But not leaving DNA on the tape is a good point - that is yet another detail that shows up on crime shows. where he may have gotten ideas from.

jmo

True, I hadn't thought about the fact that his hands were full. The report did say that he eventually put the gun on the sink to tape her.

Interesting. It says he was visiting his mother when Jayme escaped, and that his mother is a school bus driver.
I'm confused with the sisters ex. Was it a boyfriend or girlfriend?

Ordinarily he may have been pulled over but the 911 call took precedent ovet a motor vehicle violation.
You missed my point. In retrospect, it might’ve occurred to them that this vehicle, the only one encountered, had a missing plate. So, in their concern to ID a possible vehicle associated with the crime, they would’ve had even more reason to look for the Taurus. Maybe they were looking for it, but they never divulged the information.

Why not the green Toyota, the blue Chevrolet, the gray Honda, and all of the other cars that were traveling the opposite way. I am still sure that I haven’t gotten the point across that hindsight is 20-20.

I believe LE has stated that they only saw the one car. It is odd, to me, that they didn't broadcast that fact. I suppose it was just an oversight but they had no other information to go on except for the neighbors' inaccurate report of gun fire so you would think it would be a semi-big deal.

This isn’t knocking small towns... but I’ve gone to high schools with 2400 and one with 380..

One with 2400 was hard to stay in top 10 percent... one with 380 seemed like they took curve and adjusted curriculum down .. brutally boring...

If he’s top in class in Gordon wi he might simply be average elsewhere...

If he’s top in private school of 4000 people he’s not only really bright but also has pick of full ride scholarships... this is quiz bowl team with a lot of good farm kids and nice simple people...

There are also different kinds of "smart". There are people with a natural intelligence/intuitiveness, those with common sense, those with book smarts or who can study for a test or memorize what they have learned, those that excel in one area but are almost learning disabled in another.... Etc., etc. This creep-o-saurus I would guess may have been "book" smart... Which is largely memorization.... jmho.

I guess I'm one of the few who doesn't feel the need to re-hash the actions of LE at this point. Jayme is safe now...for all we know she would have been killed if LE had closed in on JP and her any sooner. Although this will always be a tragic, immeasurably sad story, as far as endings go, this is as good as we could have hoped for at this point.
We now know (which I believed all along), that little Jayme was not in any way complicit in this.....she is the pure innocent little girls she always was, plus she is a brave heroine! Her parents would be so very proud.
I am so glad she has additional family she is already close to, that can stay by her side through all the upcoming difficult times. Childhood trauma and PTSD is all too real, and if you've never witnessed it, consider yourself blessed indeed. I'd give any amount of money to be ignorant of the horrors of it.
My prayers will continue for her, and for her family.
I am also one of the few. We can speculate till the trial, but it doesn't change anything.
I also would like to add that while Jayme is the main focus right now the whole Closs and Naiberg family are victims. They lost a daughter a son sister and brother. The return of Jayme and their joy in that, is helping them deal with their grief. For anyone to criticize them is beyond acceptable. This has been a tragedy beyond belief and whatever or however they choose to get thru it is fine for me.

Gosh I hope people leave his parents and siblings alone. Victims also in this. No one has a child in hopes that they turn out this way. Makes me feel ill.
It makes me ill that his family and friends were oblivious to this devil!

That is the other thing. I forgot about the Cheese Factory. If they would have put out that they were looking for the Taurus and one distinction that they may know the car has is a black thing sticking out from its front grill then maybe one of his co workers would have said hey this guy stopped working here around that time and he had a car like that.
The "black thing" was the bracket that the plate attaches to. It's nothing that really stands out except that there should be a license plate attached to it.

He has stated he was doing trial runs, maybe someone would recall seeing it. He stated the was stopped behind her bus when he first seen her, hey I distinctly remember a car like that because it had a broken tail light and we were stopped by a school bus right in front of her house. Who knows what kind of tips would have come in and who cares if it was 6000 of them. Not bashing your post, I get it but I am on the side that says they should have released the info.
I understand where you're coming from, I'm just thinking it's a coulda shoulda woulda situation. Probably kicking themselves now.

Have not read all previous threads so apologies if already discussed. With regard to the 911 call, dispatch said they heard screaming but did not indicate they heard conversation. JC said when JP came into the bathroom he told her mom to hang up the phone (JP doesn't mention the phone or knowing DC had called 911 at all in his account). They had to be pretty close to each other in the bathroom, I would expect the dispatcher would have been able to hear him say that if he did (and if dispatch heard a voice say "hang up the phone" I would expect LE would have known for sure they were heading into an active crime and radioed to have a backup follow the only car leaving the area).

Also, JC said JP told DC to tape JC's mouth, and she did. She doesn't mention that it was JP that did it or that it went all the way around her head either (and that would have been memorable because duct tape in hair is not just "coming off", that is either getting cut out which there would be evidence of, or painfully ripping hair from the scalp). However, JP says he gave DC the roll to tape JC's mouth but she was struggling so he did it himself. And he said he wrapped it all the way around her head, and then did her ankles and wrists too. So why did he add that embellishment when it doesn't appear to be what he did. JP also says he had two pair of gloves on, how was he able to work with the Gorilla duct tape roll at all with two pairs of gloves on?

And the timing seems almost implausible, I don't know why it jumps out at me, but the call came in at 12:53 and in that time he gets into the bathroom, struggles with some duct tape with gloves on, wraps her head, hands, and ankles, shoots DC, picks up JC and struggles to get her out of the house (slips in blood, tries to carry her, etc), then drags her across a yard, stops to open the drivers door and pop the trunk, drags to the trunk, lifts her and gets her into it and then gets in the car and removes his mask and leaves the driveway...that just seems like a lot to do in 7 min for the average guy. (and we don't know if DC started the call right after the shots were fired, if so then JP also says he ran around and checked the rest of the house before forcing his way into the bathroom, so add that into the 7 min)

We discussed all of these in the mid-20s of this thread so you're not alone. My theory is that the call didn't come in right away. I think Denise got Jayme into the bathroom and they worked on barricading the door for a minute before the call went out. Still that's only 8-9 minutes and it is definitely a short time to accomplish all of that, but adrenaline and planning, plus a complicit child. He is 6'0" 215 pounds and was obviously able to throw his weight around pretty quickly. But check out pg. 23-25 of this thread for others' thoughts. I'm still catching up on this thread.

It was a boyfriend. I think that is a mistake at the end of the article. They use the "He said.." in the article.

Strong assumption that some type of SA happened - why else would he want a 13-year old - however investigators have said they aren't going to push Jayme to talk about everything related to her abduction. She can share at her pace. It's a very smart move because you aren't forcing her to relive the horrific ordeal so soon and give her time to heal. He's locked up and isn't getting out so there's really no rush to push a SA case as they have him confessing to kidnapping and double homicide.

At this point, I'm assuming that investigators hope the killer pleads guilty and they can lock him up forever without having to even go the SA route. That too may be best for Jayme so she can talk about that only in private to family members or a therapist if she chooses.
Jayme is home can you believe it?! Good to see you, :)

The charging documents indicate that JP said he wrapped it all the way around her head didn't they? But he said he made DC do that as well so maybe he added more? Or maybe we need to go back and review charging documents. What a monster to put them in that situation. It's disgusting. Anybody tht can take a child from her mothers arms is monstrous IMO.

I’ve caught some reporting of the case on msm this morning. I’m not happy that pics of JC with her family are being shared on msm. They didn’t even give her the dignity of brushing her hair. D,; I was 13 once. I would have been mortified. I know she, everyone, is happy she’s home but she needs her privacy. IMO.

I think I know why her pics are posted. She lives in a tiny town where she will have to return to school eventually. She will have to leave the house eventually.

There will be tongues wagging. What they are showing is that Jayme is strong, not defeated , loved.

It does not change that some people will be jealous of the attention she receives even though it is for horror.

I am assuming, maybe incorrectly, that they are getting advice from someone who knows what should be done.

LE had to have reviewed dash-cam footage at some point, right? With so many LE agencies now wearing bodycams, video footage is fast becoming integral evidence in solving cases (or for reviews after the fact of correct police protocol). So, asking isn’t being disrespectful IMO.

From JTP's own mouth, (paraphrased) he said had they tried to pull him over he likely would have started shooting. We can assume that the Sheriffs, in return, would empty their clips, possibly hitting JC. You're correct that they may have been looking for the Taurus. They mentioned two other vehicles of interest but maybe that was done so JTP wouldn't do anything rash.

Agree! The family is one step ahead of the media and controlling the message.

This is what the perps who commit evil crimes should think about before they do their crime.

They are so selfish they do not even think about how it is going to affect their family members if they get caught.

The fallout on the innocent related family members or friends is tremendous and it always happens.

Ive thought long and hard about how innocent related family members and friends of criminals get dragged into cases and it is a very unfortunate by-product of the original crime by the perps.

If we can somehow make the perps really think long and hard about that before they do their crime then we may have a chance at reducing crime. But unfortunately the perps are often so selfish and arrogant it wont stop many of them.

He was also wearing a mask which I assume would further muffle his voice. If I am on the phone with my husband when he has someone else in the background talking, I can’t distinctly hear them even without a mask. He’ll say “did you hear that?” I’ll say “no”, then he says “oh, Mike says hi”. Maybe it’s just my ears but I can’t hear background words even without other background yelling and banging.

Great point
