He simply wasn’t thinking that far ahead.

He was so focused on the objective, that he gave little thought to what came next.
Or perhaps he had no empathy for her situation? Clothing, food, etc?? I’m thinking it’s really all about him - she was a possession IMO and didn’t care about providing her basic life essentials IMO - he seems devoid of empathy IMO

Something is deeply flawed in this guy's thought processes and his ability to hold down a job. He worked at the turkey place 2 days and some other job I think for 1 day. He was booted out of the marines pretty quick. Something tells me he wanted to go to prison where he will get 3 hots and a cot for the rest of his miserable life. Wonder if his dad was putting pressure on him to measure up and get a life and a job and get out? Wonder if he did this knowing he would get caught and then all the pretending and his anxiety to grow up would be relieved?

What he may have not considered is the other prisoners will eat him like a marshmallow if they get a chance. He better watch his back

Prison is a barbaric, terrifying hell. I don't think anyone desires to go there. It's a long time since it was a warm nights sleep and a free hot meal. These days it is gang driven, full of torture. Even the tough guys come out with PTSD. ( former juvenile volunteer)

I think the girlfriend is right... he was in house prior.... and likely scoping family out for weeks...
I had mentioned this possibility in a prior thread. He stalked this family to accomplish his goal.

Well there’s no question that is true.

You don’t blow two people away and hold a teenage girl against her will, unless you are completely devoid of empathy.

Amazing how that works no matter what the situation is.

Seriously. Not trying to get OT, but I've always been amazed at women being attracted to Scott Peterson.

I'm not convinced by everything in that article. The dead animal heads/roadkill and amateur taxidermy seemed more horror-movie trope than real experience, like something the ex had not seen for herself but picked up secondhand. The flying off the handle and slashed tires seemed more credible to me.

Then again, if ever a 21 year-old was going to go full Norman Bates -- this kid seems like a good bet.

Torturing animals is part of the sociopath triad, the other two are setting fires and bed wetting longer than most as a child

Makes sense that he would do so in order to carry out his "perfect plan." Knowing the layout of the house and where Jayme would likely be sleeping is something I can picture him attempting to discover ahead of time.

BARRON - Authorities investigating Jayme Closs' disappearance knew that deputies had passed a lone vehicle on the highway just minutes after they received a 911 call from the girl's home.
[...]
Authorities didn't immediately know what had happened at the home, said Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald, so no one pulled over Patterson.

"They didn’t know what they were going into," he said
[...]
As Patterson fled, he drove past first responders heading to the home. A deputy en route recalled seeing an older, maroon Ford Taurus or similar vehicle traveling east on U.S. 8 as he drove west. The deputy saw the vehicle yield to his squad and other deputies responding to the scene. It was the only eastbound vehicle the deputy encountered.
[...]
A week later, authorities notified the public of two vehicles of interest in the case: a 2004-2010 Black Acura MDX or a 2006-2010 Black Ford Edge, and a 2008-2014 red or orange Dodge Challenger. But investigators eventually became less "keen" on those cars, Fitzgerald previously told USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin, and there was never public mention of a Ford Taurus.

Fitzgerald said Tuesday that the passing car was discussed during the investigation, but they didn't feel they had enough to information to alert the public to it. It was dark, and police were traveling fast, so it was difficult to determine the make, model and other details, he said.

“We didn’t have any specific information about that car," he said.

Wonder if the Closs family suspected someone was in and told family? Family then told LE and that is why the cameras were set that detected we know who.

Suspect in Jayme Closs disappearance moved to different jail
The suspect in the disappearance of 13-year-old Jayme Closs and the murder of her parents has been moved from the Barron County Jail to the jail in neighboring Polk County.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said after meeting with his administrative team, the decision was made to move Patterson because one of Jayme's relatives works in the jail in Barron County. All court appearances will still take place in Barron County.

"You also have to look at this as an absolute obsession," Garrett said. "This is in his mind all the time... and as the fantasy becomes richer and more explicit, the more likelihood he's gonna act on it. And I think that's what happened with Patterson. He didn't all of a sudden in October of last year, one day have the fantasy and the next day go abduct Jayme. This is something that has been building up."

This is something I’ve been mulling over.

While I suspected that it was a younger person all along, I also expected it to be a younger person with a pretty heavily documented history of conduct and violent behavioral issues which seems to be absent here (or just hadn’t come out yet).

I think a lot of people will be looking at this case for a long time because JP seems to break a lot of “commonly knowns”. There doesn’t seem to be an escalation of behavior. The age is young for such a fantasy type obsession to have festered enough to drive him to completion.

I’m considering he may have been the type to hold her for years- his makeshift method of imprisoning her strikes me as someone who felt he was in absolute control (if true good job by JC of convincing him of this) and his job application was perhaps a step toward building this “future”? JMO

Agree. Jp will get the same. It's very odd

Yikes - per the article linked above, FBI agent Brad Garrett stated to ABC news that "studies suggest 70 percent of people who commit abductions were abused as children, physically or psychologically, which can create a pattern of rage (this does not mean all people who are abused then go on to abuse others)."

I had no idea the percentage was that high.
So sad.

I've seen amateur taxidermy, it was not on roadkill. sick kid!

It was the only car the deputy passed, not far from the crime scene. The investigation soon determined that the killer was in the residence for a short time and quickly fled, probably just before LE arrived. Yet LE did not put two and two together? I’m sorry, but that’s not good enough in my book.

Good question.. at very least I’d think you’d want to know guns/dogs ... then any and all large males...

He could have been bat crazy and said oh well ... let’s go..

After he taped up denise I bet he didn’t say where’s your brother or anyone else here... cause he knew...

If you look at his indeed listing... his whole life is likely the same thing... sociopath with delusions of grandeur..

It’s like he watched Rambo and dexter for 3 yrs and decided his trainings finished... full of rage and complete con artist...
