Quite honestly I expected him to head west on Hwy 8 then take one of the N/S roads to get onto roads that would have no traffic at that time of night. That way, by heading west, away from Barron, your chances of meeting any LE would be virtually nonexistent. You also have to remember that he didn't know what was in the house, it could have had 5 teenagers all with cellphones plus the parents cellphones. And all it takes is one to call 911. He never expected LE to be there so quick as he just escaped by less than a minute.

Being he went east I am guessing he went all the way to Hwy 53. First of all that would be the fastest way as it is just like 4 miles east of Barron and is 55 MPH once outside of town. You get on Hwy 53 and it is 70 MPH straight to Gordon only slowing down for Trego. The reason I don't think he turned north on Hwy 25 is first of all it is slower, as you have 55 MPH for almost 10 miles (to Hwy 53), and you slow to 45 before you get to the ramp at Hwy 53 by the DMV in Rice Lake. Also, if you turned on Hwy 25 north not only do you drive right by the Sheriff's office (County Criminal Justice Center) where all the cops will be coming from but also once you go through Barron far enough to get to Hwy 25, you are past most of the places that you would think would have security cameras such as the gas station, like Holiday, Kwik-Trip and food joints like McDonald's and Subway. Also, don't quote me on this, but I believe CVS drugs is on the corner of Hwy 8 & Hwy 25 and the drugs stores would certainly have cameras all over so if you drove by 2 sides of CVS (Hwy 8 then turn north on Hwy 25) your chances would be that much greater to be caught on a security camera. One has to remember this was after midnight on a Sunday night so the traffic out is going to be at a minimum. If I read it correctly LE said JP's vehicle was the only one they met. I'm guessing he wanted the fastest way back to Gordon.

But after having said all that is feasible after he realized the cops were at the house so quickly he could have taken any number of back roads north and staying off the main roads where he knew there would be virtually no chance of meeting any other cars, especially LE.

The information will surface. Again, I grew up on all those little back roads around there and I just can't imagine for the life of me why he headed east. I think he didn't imagine a 911 call would be made as soon as it was. The call was made before the issue with taping Jayme and I am sure that in itself, the taping, was over a minute in length as he first requested Denise do it then after awhile he took over the job taping the mouth/head, the hands and the feet.

It will be interesting to find out the actual route. MOO
I believe he purposely did it because he did know they were that close and thought LE wouldn't consider the suspect to be driving right towards them and he even yielded as they passed.

He's brazen this one, at least on this night anyway. JMO

You don't think this person deserves to go to prison?
I sure as hell DO think he should go. I just don't think he wants to go for a bed and three meals.

Some of us were sleuthing as soon as the news broke that JC was found alive and in what area.

There was a very brief window of time where some of us saw a SM account which might have been JP’s, but it was locked down/disactivated/disappeared VERY rapidly. There is a also mention in the cc of JP seeing news reports of his crimes via social media.

I’m being extremely cautious about any putative SM accounts at the moment, because there is a member of the P (extended) family with an almost identical name to JTP.

IMO, there’s more information to come, some of which is not yet quotable because TOS/not verified through LE and/or MSM.

Sorry, that’s all a bit rambling/cryptic.
Heard a news report today that a comp ay about 40 miles has come forward stating that he had applied online the day before JC was found. Sorry it was NBC morning show. Not sure of company. Sounds like he had access to internet.

Want to say I am impressed with the knowledge and exchange of information here on Websleuths. It is a continuing education for me and overwhelming at times.

Bailing for awhile to give my eyes and brain a rest.

Normally I'd agree, but in this case something had to happen in that home. Three children raised in the same environment and two of them were just bad seeds?

I'm not saying this just to be contrary but, if both JP's parents worked when the kids were young... something could have happened in a babysitter's home or a child care center or a relative's home, etc. Also, I'm still waiting for confirmation that the kids were placed in foster care and, if so, something could have happened there, too. I'm just seeing JP's family as victims at this point because heredity and congenital anomalies diagnosed or not, can lead to predilections in behavior and is also a possibility imo. I'm especially reluctant to try and place any responsibility on the parents when I don't know anything about the family life; as in, "growing up in the P home."
ETA: Siblings don't, strictly speaking, "grow up in the same environment." Home environments change according to circumstances within the family and from without. Example would be financial burdens may become more influential as more children are born; causing changes in parental character. First child might be planned and dearly loved and fussed over... sibling #3 might be born into a tension filled atmosphere with lots of arguing going on. There are countless variables involved, imo.

whomever gave her instruction really performed well too & had their team come together swiftly, that's a small town too. I'm more amazed after hearing that call, what could've been kids crying, screaming, dogs barking and adults all yammering at once was just....calm.
Exactly how I feel about the dispatcher. The situation could have devolved into hysteria and panic. She did a great job of making them wait so the police could get there quietly and not tip off Patterson. Amazing job.

I’m trying to post this once a day. I think this is a great chance for Jayme to see how loved and cared about she is all over the world, and how happy we all are that she’s alive and safe now. Even if she just sees that there’s a lot of cards for her, it’s worth it. So, here’s the addy to send cards of encouragement & love.:)

I wonder what was up with that chair that they took. Doesn't seem to fit into any of this
I wonder if it was damaged when he shot the lock. The dining area seemed to be directly in front or slightly off to the right of the front door so it may have ricocheted from there. IMO

This reply is not aimed at your comment Kebdal which is entirely sensible. But now that the brother has been mentioned: And not wishing to sleuth someone who is not an official person of interest surely the brother deserves a look by LE in relation to supporting JP. We still do not know who the visitors to the house were that Jayme mentioned. Also there are too many disrecpencies in statements by JP which is indicative of a lack of knowledge of exactly what went down at the crime scene.

Everything that Jake Patterson has said so far he could have been told by another Perp who actually did the deed. There are gaps in his story which either don’t fit with the timeline or do not fit with Jayme’s statement. For example, all that he described as doing in the house would take more than 4 minutes; searching through the house, beating his way into the bathroon, and taping Jayme’s head which was not mentioned by Jayme. I think there are many more discrepancies in his story.

Although we can all fit his strange behaviour with animals and loner demeanour with being the Perp there is no history leading up to such a violent crime: Useful Websleuth Quote: “one glaringly missing sign is no criminal history. I would think this will be a case of interest to future profilers, criminologists and psychologists. A rare escalation jump from nothing to armed B&E, double homicide and kidnapping “ (my bold) (Thanks CuriousMaine)

Stay with me:

I am also surprised at the speed with which JP owned up to the crime when stopped by LE. If he went to such extremes to cover his tracks why give up so easily?

Also, If he planned this so well then why not prepare a place to keep Jayme? (under the bed seems to indicate a lack of planning for her arrival) as is the description of changing of plates and disabling the dome light on the car and working on the boot lock “on the way” to the crime scene.

The scenario below is way out there but stranger things have happened.

Scenario: Suppose JP, the loser, had been whingeing for weeks about Jayme and how he wanted her and had told, let's say person x, that he had gone to the Closs home to get her twice and "bottled out". So person x, exasperated with JPs failure, took matters into their own hands and blazed into the Closs home to “fetch” a trophy for JP. The crime was planned well enough to totally bewilder LE and the FBI but person x delivering Jayme to JPs house would explain why when Jayme arrived JP was so ill prepared to “store” her. It would also explain why he jumped to say “I know what this is about and I did it!”, to cover for someone who he cared deeply for.Don't forget, the Perp wore a mask and Jayme did not see his face until she was at JPs house.

At this stage JP, if found guilty, would be in line for at least 40years for kidnapping so why implicate person x in the murders.

Have you read the only official source for information post-arrest that we have so far?

To take just one example you mention, taping JC’s mouth/head: both JC & perpetrator describe this.

I don't think the tire slashing happened in Barron. I think it was alleged to have happened in the Gordon area.

Population of Gordon: under 700. That's tiny. The alleged GF's mother would have had to replace multiple slashed tires. I can't imagine news of such a rare and vindictive act in such a small place not spreading quickly and thoroughly.

Given JP was able to hide a human being in his house for 88 days even though receiving at least weekly visits from his father, I have no doubt he could hide any online activity, if he engaged in it. Using a wifi enabled cell-phone, tablet, or other device (possibly stolen, likely throwaway and/or numerous) one can gain internet access from unsecured and public networks with little to no trace. I wonder if his vehicles or image have been canvassed at public libraries within a 50-100 mile radius of his home. It is not uncommon for public wifi networks to be accessible from parking lots and nearby streets.

LE have vastly more information about the day to day experience at the residence in Eau Claire Acres where JC was held than has been released to the media, so perhaps searching for traces of an online footprint is a wheel-spinning dead-end, as it has been published repeatedly that he had none. It just seems so likely that he was a 4chan/darkweb type of personality who could use that anonymous unfiltered outlet to express his true self (or id-on-steroids projection of his self) without negative consequences and connect with others. I get the strongest sense that something in his life changed after high school that began to reinforce and strengthen the seeds of whatever social/psychological aberration led to the murders, abduction, and imprisonment.

It was Saratoga Liquors in Superior:

Patterson applied for job the day before Jayme Closs escape
KARE 11's Lou Raguse has confirmed that Jake Patterson applied online for a job at Saratoga Liquors in Superior the day before Jayme's brave escape and his arrest on murder and kidnapping charges. In his application, Patterson wrote "I'm an honest and hardworking guy. Not much work experience, but I show up to work and I'm a quick learner."

On the application, which a Saratoga co-owner shared with KARE 11, Patterson listed his work history without mentioning the two-day stints he spent at Jennie-O and Saputo Cheese, where he was working when he allegedly spotted Jayme getting on the school bus and decided to kidnap her. Among the work experiences he listed:
  • Quanex Building Products, Rice Lake, Oct '16-Jan '17
  • Marine Corps Boot Camp, San Diego, Apr '17-Dec '17
  • Bohmann Concrete, Hayward, WI, Apr '18-Nov '18
Reporter Raguse tweeted that the work history appears embellished, as the Marines kicked Patterson out after just five weeks of basic training, and authorities say he was not working at the time of the kidnapping, which is in direct conflict to the claim he was working at Bohmann Concrete during that time frame.

KB with Bohmann Concrete also called KARE 11 to confirm that Patterson filled out an application to work at Bohmann, but was never employed there.

I read at one point that James was found beside a chair. Perhaps that’s why they took it. I’m at the hospital right now, so I can’t find the link. It was an article from 2 days ago, I think. I can hunt for it when I get home later tonight if you need me to. jmo

.

I agree. If from the heart it can help to heal. Professionally I always gave letters of similar nature to the judge to handle. Personally (and we all differ) I found healing the day I walked into the funeral home parking lot after being told the young man involved in my sons death wanted to pay his respects but was afraid to come in. I took his hand, told him I forgave him and walked in with him. People thought I was crazy. But it was my first step to healing. I can't speak for JP or JC's family. It's up to them.
Thank you for sharing that Blink, that's awesome to hear.
