Tough to say.

In his 48 Hours interview, the sheriff said that they spent quite a bit of time focusing on co workers at the Jennie O’s plant.

As they were being aided by the FBI, it’s likely that their profile played into this.

That would indicate that they were focused on someone with a grievance against the Closs family, and not a stranger.

Without a clear motive, it is hard to generate a profile. It’s made even harder by the unprecedented nature of this crime.

I definitely share your interest as to what profilers did think about this, but it’s impossible to say for sure what their assessment was.
I wonder if this isn’t the type of case that could lead to changes or at least to tweeks of profiling models. As far as profiling, this guy was a nightmare. No connection, no clues.

That’s what everyone said... including me... what I think throws people off is the shotgun blast through a door .. that has to be non typical..

plus 90 percent chance it’s family or acquaintances...

Im sure the last boy she texted was most relieved person on planet last week...
Something was going on in the beginning because the first account I saw said door was shot in. It was only later it was changed to kicked it.

It was a bit of both though. He destroyed the locking mechanism with a gunshot, but still had to force the door open.

That account did change though.

Social awareness is gradient, playing polite in public allowed local citizens to rest assured they were in no danger therefore LE's admonitions to watch closer went unheeded. We sit on a mountain of red flags and the culture in which these were normalized speaks to an inability to deal with aberrant individuals (neighbors claims of patterson's stealing gas, having company over at all times, loud music, possible car vandalism & roadkill, etc)

Post #641:
"Agree that isolation works to JTP's advantage of illusion and image control.
To my mind this is a major lesson that the public ought understand activity up to an incident as being suspicious as well.

Hardly BCSD's fault that the signs they shared for public to watch for were a well established pattern 'before' JC's kidnapping, would have taken marginal effort for anyone who knew JTP to ask themselves whether these things applied to anyone they knew. They accepted these signs as 'normal', therefore discounted the homicides & kidnapping in the world in general."

Reading all of this, why would anyone come away wondering about willful ignorance? Here, have a guess:

“In a little town where everyone knows everyone’s business, how could we not know that’s who he was?” said Shawn Germann, a FedEx driver, during a stop at The Buckhorn Bar and Grill in Gordon. “You always see these other towns, and think, ‘Thank God I don’t live in a town like that.’ Now, evidently, I do.”

The resident quoted is the source of JTP 'did odd jobs':

"Ron Kofal, a lifelong Gordon resident who lives about a mile from the cabin where Jayme was held, said he met Mr. Patterson at the ICO gas station on Highway 53. He said Mr. Patterson, whom he described as “clean cut and shy,” sometimes performed odd jobs around town, like yard work and cabin maintenance, and had seemed pleasant in his interactions with him."

I'm sorry, I am going to respectfully disagree.

Performing odd jobs around town and earning money for those jobs does not translate to "soliciting strangers' money for random tasks" for me.

Are there MSM links regarding his use of psychiatric drugs, and anger issues toward his parents?

Unless defense drags it out the closet with all the other skeletons, don't suppose we'll be finding that out any time soon.

Everything else about this case is seething rage toward his parents.

As I've heard said from an aging baby of the family, 'You never let me grow up'.

I think she was first seen around four. I've also been thinking about internet access other than his phone of course. I don't know if there are Whataburgers or McDonald's in town, but they offer free internet. Just thought
So from Gordon to Haugen is about 45 mins, maybe he did go to his mothers that day, used her comp to apply and then headed back.
Thank God JLC was able to break free that day because it certainly doesn't look like he planned to keep her much longer.

It will get harder as more get ring cams and cell phones everywhere... in 4/5 years police shoot high speed drone to location for video then vehicles head towards scene...drone can stay or follow perp...or return if goose chase...

Nothing’s completely safe..

It said JTP applied online for liquor job... your telling me he applied online.. and was on computer and never looked at his own case...he had to be... wouldn’t put fake tips or anything past this guy.. he is off the charts.. has to be some trail before or after the Crime if he’s on computer sending out resumes..

He could have a job and keep her. Ariel Castro had a job and kept 3. JP had already left her alone for up to 12 hours. Plus he would have only worked a day or 2, for whatever his reasons were, according to his history.
that is true, maybe she had gained his trust or he felt he had sufficiently terrified.

Is there a library in town or in a town nearby where he might have used the computer to send the job app?
Or a coffee shop. Often there is wifi at these. Probably not Starbucks, but my local one has wifi. In fact, once when power was out in the entire town and adjacent areas due to severe storms, many people crowded in there just to be able to use cell phones and computers.

I don't think there's any indication he wasn't going to keep her much longer. I think there's an indication he was going to work for a day or two again.

I agree. Or in his twisted mind he thought he needed a job to set up his little family.

Ariel Castro had the isolation, space, and restraint system to keep women undetected. JP didn't plan for, or have any of this. No way he could do shift work and keep Jayme, IMO.

Something was going to have to give, and it did.

I still don't understand if he wanted to take JLC, he saw her, she was his objective, why wouldn't he have prepared to take care of her? Shampoo and soap are cheap and easily bought. His sisters clothes must have been far too large for her. And he made her hide under a bed and put music on to muffle any noise she made. Then he left for her for 12 hours at Christmas. All of that would point to impulsive behavior, not planning well. But then he plans, or so he says, minute details of the home invasion and abduction and even puts it on hold a couple of times because things are "right" or "perfect", so he's not impulsive about that. It makes me wonder if the objective was JLC or was it to terrorize a town by a horrific abduction and then disappearance of a child? and if so, why Barron? Why not Gordon? Or Haugen? Or even Superior?
ETA, did he just want to be famous? He had to know this was international news, is that what he was looking for? Is that the motivation his atty's have been promising to tell us?
