I've been wondering about that. They took PF's DNA right away, even before his arrest in the KB case, and for no apparent reason?

Colorado law allows for that. Each state has its own rules in this regard.

Acually they make tires with tiny sharp spikes that cut right into the ice. I dont know why emergency vehicles wouldn't have them, but in our area, they have been outlawed for regular citizens. Some people wouldn't remove them in the spring, and they chew up the cement on the roads.

The roads are often clear in the winter as well so they would damage the roads then as well.

What else stands out to me is JP leaving the radio on in the room when he had company over or left Jayme alone. Certainly the only channels are local and there had to be mention of the Closs case on the radio, wouldn’t you think?!?

I’m hoping that Jayme was hearing the news, knew she was being sought, there was “hope” still shining in Barron.

Takes place outside USA and "It's especially important for public safety officials to know the limits of their vehicles and how the safety systems act, however, and that's what the Volvo Academy aims to send them off with."

This article does not = teaching police how to drive fast on ice and snow. It teaches them the limits of their vehicles on ice and snow. Key word, imo, "limits." This just addresses the original complaint that LE took too long and should have driven faster. Sure, knowing how to maneuver through a skid on ice is a good thing to know but, once you start skidding on ice on public roads, the only sane thing to do is slow down a bit, imo.
I would love to see the communication coordination between all involved in the one 911 call. I agree with those who say they did a commendable job and all turned out well.
JMO.

When starting to skid, you do not put on your brakes. You steer into the skid not against.

I have a friend who just became LE in MN. He posted pics of their training on a frozen lake in MN. There were cones on the ice so I imagine they make some kind of obstacles to steer around on rhe ice.

Northern Wisconsin can have ice from October through May. The biggest nightmare is black ice. Total surprise.

There are many rivers in WI with bridges over them. One of the most dangerous things are bridges as the difference in temperature between the water, air and road makes black ice. That would slow them down as well.

People in the north all have to learn about driving on ice as there are so many months of it

Wow, that’s a really good thought. Pretty much every station does news updates.

That would have probably been a huge morale boost.

J.L.C. stated Patterson would turn music on in his room so she couldn’t hear what was happening if there was anyone else in the house with him. So we don't necessarily know if was a radio or maybe a computer disk. Good thought though guys.

Ha! “Computer disk”. Could have also been a “cassette tape.”

True though, we don’t know that it was necessarily the radio.

But we can dream.

I haven’t been able to stop thinking about Jayme, so I just put together & ordered her a little care package from Amazon. I know gifts can’t take away what she has been through, but I hope some of the gifts can at least bring her a little joy. I haven’t been a teenager since the 90’s & I have no idea what girls that age are into these days, but I did my best & hopefully I picked some good stuff that she can enjoy.

What a lovely thing to do! I’m sure your care in choosing will mean a lot to her. Hugs!

Jake Patterson Named As Suspect Arrested In Kidnapping Of Jayme Closs

Midway down in this article:

"Officers brought Jayme to a Duluth-area hospital for overnight evaluation. She has since been cleared."

So strange. A friend emailed me and said that she was brought to St. Luke’s in Duluth, MN.

Then I think it was in the Duluth News Tribune that said she went to Essentia Hospital is Superior, WI.

Essentia is a huge hospital system in several states, The hospital in Superior is very small but they would have access to many specialists in the Duluth ,MN Essentia.

The media said that the killer was from the Duluth, Superior area, but Gordon is in no way considered Duluth, Superior area.

Duluth is in Minnesota. There are two long bridges that connect Duluth to Superior across Lake Superior. They are called the Twin Ports. Lake Superior is the largest freshwater lake in the world and the end of the St.Lawrence Seaway where ships collect grain and ore and go to foreign countries.

The killer has his father and grandfather in Superior.

What a sweet thing to do! I'm sure Jayme will love everything you picked!

Thank you! That display of kindness is exactly what we all need to celebrate right now.

We all 'realize' what Jayme has experienced. Yet we really have no way to comprehend all of it.

I'll try to find a link, but I do believe that one of the Aunts' interviews mentioned butterflies. And the color blue.

I'm sure that anything she receives will bring smiles to all of their faces.

I really don’t understand why people have their knickers in a knot about LE response. Douglas County LE did a fantastic job. I used to live 3 hours away from Douglas County (2 hours from Barron). Trying to drive 30-45 miles on iced-over roads is dangerous business, even for Wisconsin or Minnesota natives.

I must agree here. I personally think the 911 operator and LE were amazing on the day of her escape. Think about it, it's been such an insane case from day one, there was the false alarm earlier that same day and I'm sure it crossed their minds that it could've been a trap. I know they all sounded like lovely woman over the phone, but anyone can be a killer, right? Also, I'm sure they took a little longer than we all might expect as they were ensuring they had dotted their I's and crossed their T's. LE couldnt afford one tiny mistake if it was indeed Jayme on the other end of that call.
I'm sure LE was also very aware of the fact that the neighbourhood they were about to enter was heavily wooded and the possible suspects house was only a few doors from where Jayme had escaped to.... JP could've been anywhere, hiding and waiting for Jayme to appear. There was a very real chance that if they allowed the nearest emergency car in the area (be that police or ambulance) drive to the address Jayme was at and enter the house without back up or a solid plan, JP could have easily ambushed them and then entered the home of KK.

As for the tone and urgency of the 911 operator, I think the combination of her, JN, KK and her husband (can't remember his name!) is what helped everyone in that moment get through it without completely freaking out. No one in the house or on the call at that time had any idea what Jamye had gone through, the smallest thing could've spooked her and caused her to run right back out the door. The more I listen to that call the more I hear (IMO) that the operator and JN/KK did everything they could to make the entire thing appear to Jayme and KK's children as just a normal, almost mundane, occurance and I don't think it could've ended any better! What strength to keep themselves together in that situation!

And lastly, to everyone saying Jayme had guardian Angel's guiding her, it was a miracle, God got her out of there, etc, yes prayers and positive thinking doesn't hurt, and maybe Jayme found strength in whatever her beliefs are, but at the end of the day Jayme got herself out of that house of horrors and Jayme alone. The help she received in the moments after I'm sure she will never forget, but I hate the thought of suggesting any of her strength was from anything more than that brave little girl mustering all the courage she could.

All my opinion only and I realise many will disagree with this particularly my last point, but I want Jayme to go through the rest of her life knowing how strong she is.

Please take no offense, I truly don't mean any.

Thanks so much for your reply (and the replies before you)! I remembered the butterflies, so I got her a diamond painting kit that had a girl surrounded by butterflies. They’re my favorite thing to do when I’m feeling stressed, so hopefully she will enjoy it. It’s an excellent way to keep your mind occupied. I also got her a pretty journal with some different color journaling pens, a BIG comfy scarf (growing up in the northeast I know how cold winters can get. Plus, if she’s lost weight she’s probably extra cold) & a cute little ring that has “this too shall pass” engraved on it. I know it’s kind of a mish-mash of stuff, but I wanted each item to serve a purpose. Now all I have to worry about is if she will like any of it. Lol

Well, if she doesn’t like any of it, just send it on to me. :) Seriously, you chose perfectly. More hugs!

Gosh, thank you guys so much. ❤️ I was just getting ready for bed & she was on my mind so I felt like I needed to do something before I could fall asleep. I unfortunately experienced a pretty severe trauma around her age, so I think that’s why this one is hitting me extra hard. Thanks again for all the kind words, it was the least I could do for her. It’s time for me to get some sleep. I hope you all have an excellent night.

She was. And there was also an LE official breaking in and asking her to ask questions. They took it VERY seriously immediately. IMO. Stellar job.

You should listen to the call. It's incredible. I think you can hear Jayme talking calmly in it. And hear how the people surrounding her were talking calmly. But you know inside everyone was scared shipless.

In the end the woman who found her sounds like she begins to cry with relief when the officers get there.

It was a remarkable call. Had me on tenterhooks the whole time even thought they I knew the outcome.

Great job by all involved.
Thanks Gitana, I will find it and have a listen.
