Missing after taking his canoe out at 7:30 PM. Lake Michigan can be treacherous when windy but it sounds like he'd had the canoe for years and was likely quite comfortable with it in all sorts of conditions. What I don't understand is the report in Namus that he was seen loading a carry on suitcase in the canoe with him. Was he planning on taking the boat to visit someone else who lived on the water? Why a suitcase? I hope the family gets some closure - it's been months.

The water ones… there’s a few I added recently. There’s a few bones that wash up and never appear to be tested, which infuriates me. But water cases are a real bummer.

Unfortunately, water immersion really impacts the ability to recover usable DNA from human remains. 72 hours of water immersion stands out as a critical point in the timeline of DNA loss, especially for bone that was immersed in saltwater but there was some DNA genotyping done using PCR/STR analysis a few years back that helped identify a man 3 years after the body was submerged. Interesting article about that if you are the science type. Skeletal remains presumed submerged in water for three years identified using PCR-STR analysis - PubMed

Well that just sucks. That means that femur that washed up, we won’t know whose it is. The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)

I was hoping for one of the water cases to be solved with that :(
