It's not obvious how this one was solved - it was a partial skeleton so not surprisingly there's no fingerprints, and there apparently wasn't enough DNA for profiling. They have dentals, but how many cases were ever solved on dentals (be honest).

Maybe the "insufficient DNA for profiling" was still sufficient to solve the case?

The skull of an unidentified Caucasian female was found at the Manitowoc County Coroner’s Office in Wisconsin during 1980. It is undetermined where and when the remains were initially discovered by authorities.

A year has gone since Manitowoc Jane Doe was presumably identified, and I haven't been able to find anything on her. Are there any updates? It's such a wild case. How did they manage to identify her in the first place with so little to go on? What is her story?

With them being found (secondarily) in the coroners office, it could be as simple as them discovering some documentation or records of whose bones they were. Assuming that person's death wasn't criminal/unsolved, there would be no reason for them to release the information, assuming the family of the individual didn't want to call them out for the loss of identification.
