Robert David Kramer, born in Dorchester, Clark County, WI, born 26 Jun 1939, in Dorchester, died 16 Sep 1999, Wood, Mellette County, South Dakota, had two brothers and one sister. Neither brother was named William. One of his brothers did have a son named William, though.

In answer to your question, I don't know what his ties to Racine, WI, were, whether he ever lived there and why they suspected his involvement in the murder of Mary Ellen Kaldenburg.

Known residences were Biron, WI, Wisconsin Rapids, Wood County, WI, Carrollton, Carroll County, MO (where his sister lived. He was arrested there for the April 15, 1967 abductions and murders in New Berlin, WI of Sharon Malone, 25, of Monches, WI and Cheryl Packard, 22, of Pewaukee, WI. and the assault and robbery of Maureen Curtis, 22, of Sussex, WI, June 24, 1966. (Vehicles of the victims in both crimes had the gas line crimped which stalled the vehicles, resulting in their abductions) He was acquitted of the two murders and convicted of the assault and robbery. He was also convicted of several other robberies. He was married twice,17 Jun 1961 and 9 Mar 1977, both in Wood County, WI. He had ties to Shawano County, WI. He also lived in the Town of Grant, Portage County, at the residence of a brother after he got out of prison.

I still think this case can be solved, if they still have all the evidence. DNA has advanced so much, that they might be able to get it off her clothes, the hearse itself or anything that was in it.

Sometimes it's so frustrating as you wonder why they haven't been able to use DNA to solve a lot of these old crimes, such as Zodiac.

Was there any old evidence left from her? Like her clothes or did they take any fingerprints from inside the car? Was there and this left from the cases evidence that they can use now?

I reached out for you & please read this. Someone needs to call the Kenosha Police dept & have them contact the cold case team for the state of Wisconsin. They could find DNA on her clothes & solve it in one day. Who knows.

Her being held for a number of days pretty much discounts a non-local, IMO.

Somebody had a 'safe' place to stash her for days on end.

Somewhere no-one would look, somewhere she would not be heard/looked for/discovered by others.

VERY good point, re WHY the killer could not, or didn't wish to, kill her where she was being held. Was his family on vacation, for example... If he *lived* or *worked* there, that could be a very good reason.

I really think the covering points to a "If I can't have you, no-one can" scenario. I agree, it's a LOT of effort to go to, a LOT of 'unnecessary' risk to go to, to stage her body that way. So it must have meant *something* very important to her killer. What that may be, who knows... but it's significant to him, that is for sure. Again, pointing to a local IMO.

Maybe the hearse was the place she would meet her secret bf 2 hook up & he snapped cuz she either told him she was pregnant ,was breaking it off or he found out about her other boyfriend or something..

I think she was beautiful but if she was told she wasn’t pretty & really believed she wasn’t.. a lot of women who feel like that do sleep around cuz it does make them feel liked/loved/wanted.. the hearse could’ve been a hangout / hook up spot & she was killed by one of the guys she was seeing because she said she was pregnant, she wanted 2 break up, he caught her with the other bf earlier.. there’s so many variables.. if she was seeing a cop he could’ve purposely been first on the scene & started the rumors he couldn’t keep straight, how many wounds, how many days etc .. the mom sounds sketchy.. maybe she was jealous cuz her daughter had multiple bfs or she caught her with a guy the mom was seeing or the mom could’ve been a sicko pimping her out & something happened that made the mom that mad.

John Norman Collins was mentioned in this thread back in 2012. He is currently serving a life sentence in Michigan for the murder of 18 year old Karen Sue Beineman in July 1969.

He is the primary suspect in other murders of young women in Michigan and California for the years 1967 to 1969, when he was arrested for killing Miss Beineman.

Collins was a student at Eastern Michigan University and he had a personal car which he drove through other states. Whether he was in Wisconsin in February 1967 would be a question to ask.

He is considered to be a serial killer and has his own long thread as such on Websleuths.

In 1967 my cousin Mary Ellen Kaldenberg was murdered in Kenosha, Wisconsin on approx. Feb 9th. She was found bruttaly stabbed on Feb 14, 1967 in an old abandoned hearst near the Rail Road tracks. She had walked from her home to the store (a short distance) & was to return back home quickly as she was meeting her boyfriend for a date. There have been numerous theories, to include serial killers & possible suspects however to date this case has gone unsolved. It seems to have been put to the bottom of the pile, due to lack of evidence. The police detectives have worked diligently for many years to solve this & still nobody has been brought to justice. It has been 44 years since her murder. Her mother went to her grave never knowing who killed her only daughter. I decided to reach out to the public & create an awareness about this case & with any luck & the help of God & his Angels just maybe we can find out who killed this innocent young girl. If the murderer of Mary Ellen is still alive & reading this please clear your conscience & confess because if you don't when you do die God is going to punish you worse then you could ever imagine the authorities will.

My dad was one of the boys that found the body. He was probably 14 at the time. He's talked to me about it a little through the years. I am so sorry for your loss. It's scary it has not been solved.
