After receiving the file, I can clear this up. He was not in chapel hill, never was - the family or the police got it wrong. It’s incorrect. He was in camp hill, I was able to determine by the hospital where he was staying.
No wonder we can't find anybody when they go missing, they're not where they're supposed to be. lol. Ok, we now know a little more than before. So, August 1, 1980, would be the last date of contact at Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center, Camp Hill, Cumberland County, PA., which is about 20 miles east of Carlisle, PA. Maybe they can change the incorrect information.
Carlisle has several hospitals, and, if an emergency occurred in Carlisle, it wouldn't make sense to send someone to Camp Hill, 20 miles away. So, it's a given that his emergency occurred in Camp Hill. So, he was keeping in contact with his mother as he traveled west, or, his mother was his emergency contact and the hospital called her for that reason.
Too bad we don't know why he was in the hospital and whether he was there inpatient or outpatient. Interesting, too, that the hospital would call his mother. He was 27 years old, after all. Maybe he left against medical advice and they were concerned about his well-being?
So, he leaves home July 28 with just his clothes on his back after stating he was going to New York to live and four days later he ends up in a hospital. I wonder if he had mental issues?
